my mini sicily travel guide 🍋🍨⛵️🍝🫒
HOW LONG TO STAY 🕐
- in my opinion 3-5 days is plenty for Taormina as this gives you enough time to do activities (e.g. one wine tour, one boat tour), have a beach day or two, and still be able to explore the main city centre which is fairly small
- alternatively, you could do a day trip to Taormina from neighbouring towns or cities
WHERE TO STAY 🏨
- budget friendly: book at airbnb, there's lots dotted around decently priced and you can choose if you want to be closer to the beach or right in the city centre *
- bad & boujie: Unahotels Capotaormina ~ incredible resort built into the cliffs, it has a private beach and infinity pool *
WHERE TO EAT🍨
- Bambar for the best granita & freshly baked brioche for breakfast (the earlier in the morning the better, as there will be a queue)
- Al Saraceno for the most incredible views and delicious seafood (get a taxi as it's a very long walk up flights of stairs otherwise, learnt the hard way lol) *
- Villa Zucchero ~ amazing pizzas & one of the best tiramisu I've ever had *
- Osteria da Rita ~ this was highly recommended by many locals, unfortunately I wasnt able to go myself
- Trattoria Tiramisu ~ another recommended spot which I didnt get to try
SOME FANCIER DINING SPOTS 🍷
- Hotel Timeo ~ the oldest hotel in Taormina which is 150 this year *
- Ristorante Le Grand Bleu *
- San Domenico Four Seasons (for breakfast)
SICILIAN FOODS TO TRY 🍕
- Sicilian pizza ~ typically square shaped and baked on focaccia
- pasta alla norma ~ pasta with tomato, aubergine and lots of garlic
- swordfish
- arancino ~ deep fried balls with rice and various fillings including ragu, aubergine & mozzarella
- canollo ~ yummy cylinder pastries filled with thick cream
ACTIVITIES 🚠
- Corso Umberto ~ explore the main shopping street
- take the cable car down to Isola Beach
- check out the greek amphitheater
- go on a boat
- villa communale park for sunset
- if you want a work out climb up the stairs to Madonna della Rocca for incredible views
- go on a wine tour ~ I did the Etna Food & Wine Tour booked through AirBnb and thought it was great. we had a super lovely and knowledgeable tour guide, learnt about and got lots of nibbles for wine pairings and also had a three course meal for lunch included
Catania
- Catania fish market also has meat, Italian cheeses, olives etc
- Vuciata kitchen market for lunch / snack
- scirocco fish lab (hidden behind fish market)
- pasta alla norma (aubergine pasta)
