Dchp reservations by themselves will work, but best practice is to set a static on that device to match the reservation. There's a few reasons for this. For example, some network devices are setup so they turn themselves back on after a power failure. If the device powers up immediately, but your dhcp server takes a hot minute to boot back up, then that device won't have any network connectivity. I saw this recently at a client site where they used an IDS which sits on top of Linux, and that specific distribution of Linux only makes a dhcp request on boot. So when a power outage would occur, the dhcp server and the IDS would both turn off. When the power was restored, the IDS immediately booted back up, but the DHCP server took a moment before fully booting up. When the IDS booted, it would make a dhclient request on the network but the server wasn't on to reply back. So it sat there without an IP address on the network until someone went and rebooted it. The simple fix: set a static IP.
When troubleshooting problems that sales guys had, the first thing I would do is check out their porn stash. That was usually an eye opener. If I didn't like the guy, the second thing I would do is document said porn stash in case he might try any office politics against me. :D Good times. :)
i love this and can hear him perfectly no audio issues at all
Informative lesson on dhcp. Thanks Mr. Eli.👍
Thanks! Its also a good idea to keep network security cameras on their own LAN.
please never stop making videos. you are just great
The knowledge you have, keep up the wisdom. Thank u. Does DACP need to be updated alot?
Oh ya ,"DhCp"
Just learning all the language, and accromin's at the time.
Thank you EIi . can u tell us more about the Forward and reserve lookup zone ?
I love your training videos and the jokes :D ! You should try to get a contract with CBT Nuggets. Some of their new trainers are so trash and dull :(
I like this vid. Good insight and good lesson.
Thanks again for another really, really helpful video.
What about MAC reservations? At my job we reserve via DHCP and MAC for printers

A great communicator.
Thank you so much Eli. 🇰🇪
watching this - my son's having my phone and is taking notes.
I guess it makes sense for Windows Server to do that since a lot of people choose to have their networking equipment to handle DHCP no?
Thank you so much!
Is it really necessary to have a degree in IT to work in IT?
