Perfect guitar. It takes only a couple of minutes to learn the switching, very easy. I get almost every sound i need out of it. Sure it can't replace my vintage strat but other than that it's all i need.
Steve only uses some settings for recording. Other settings are designed with cleaning up a distorted amp in mind (via lowering the instrument volume knob), without switching channels. He has used that setup for a long time, and Ernie Ball released a simplified configuration in later years, when he started using Engl amps with all the channel switching options. If Steve is playing high gain through an entire song, he most likely only uses two of the settings. With his solo band, or the Dregs, only 3 or 4 settings, depending on the tune. Great guitar, great demo!
I’ve got one of these, you learn it as you use it. I’ve never gotten my neck humbucker to sound like that though. Pretty far removed from a single coil sound. Maybe mine has a problem.
I suspect this is why the Y2K guitar came after this mysterious beast. Way too many switching options for the average guitarist IMO. Love the demos by Greg - I wonder if this made the guitar outtakes compilation.
Steve Morse gave an interview where he explained this. He said that he used all those esoteric options in studio only... when playing live, he used just a few combinations, which are the ones found in the Y2K.

As big a fan I am of Steve Morse, I'd never buy this guitar, even if it affordable. It's just too much his thing. I'd certainly try one out if I saw it at a shop, but I'd never buy it. I might buy some SM DiMarzios if I like the sound of the guitar. All I use are DiMarzios, absolutely love them. And I love Steve's tone, or, shall I say, tones, as he can get a million tones out of any note on the fly. There's nobody on the guitar scene like Morse. He's just a mountain of a string slinger. Been a fan since the early 80s when I heard him with Dixie Dregs.
@@ArtbyPaulPetro I've since loaded some into my Schecter Deluxe and it sounds incredible now. Great pickups! Certainly not for beginners, or the faint hearted, but I've been playing for over thirty-five years and know how to handle these brutes. I stay in E standard most of the time. But when I do tune to D they hold up great.
@@angusorvid8840 awesome! funny I also had a set installed in my Gibson Explorer a couple of months ago. I also just got an Engl savage 120 Mk II and the pickup/amp combo sounds especially amazing with the Explorer! no doubt they are a great set of pickups!

Needs a button. Once you press it, all circuitry concerning the 2 switches is roasted and you can never use them again.

I've had a reddish fireburst model for a few years now. great guitar! stays in tune like a champ, light weight, lively sound, balanced feel etc. etc.
Who remembers the black La Cabronita Tele with the three TV Jones pickups in it?

I've got Morse Dimarzio's in my LP Custom tuned to C standard...it is a BEAST!
