      Check out my 3 year review. I replaced the steering system and the rudder. That stock handle is crap and only a matter of time before you break it again. I was replacing wires ever month or two and got tired of it. ruclips.net/video/mIu4dzip39M/видео.html

    Mine broke also in 3 months. I've been taking to the riot company for almost 2 months to get a replacement cable. Unfortunately I didn't have my receipt cause I hid it from my wife so we'll I couldn't find it. We'll I even told the company I would pay for the cables but still didn't get any good reply.

    Yes it's exactly how mine was too. The rudder wires kept fraying on the tension knob. So it would break. I've replaced mine every 2 to 3 months.

      @PeelingLine  3 года назад

      Yeah I have done it 4 times in the year that I have owned it. I just redid it. Next time I plan on using some 200 lb downrigger line. I have heard people are having better success with that.

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  3 года назад +1

      @@fishoclock4851 I am not sure that would solve it. The problem I notice is that one of the outer wires will break and then start adding friction in that area. This may be solved with better bearings where the line goes from the handle into the wire tubes.

    I'm glad the company reached you. I don't have one of these kayaks but I'll bet you can secure your seat more by running the tag end of the seat strap back through to the back again. At the 2:45 on your video. I have used similar straps with music instrument cases and that seems to secure it more. Good luck.

    I had the same problem with my Titan - Steering Cable BROKE - about 2 miles from shore...! I replaced the S/S Cable with 660# Kite String (I used to Kite Surf, and had it left over), kinda "re-did" my steering handle, and extended the rudder... That was 2-1/2 years ago, and haven't had any problems since!
    Thanks for this review, as it gives everyone an "insight" as to what to look for in an inexpensive 'Yak, and how to repair it. (Next time I get $4,200 just "sitting around", I'm going for the Hobie PA-14...) Haha!

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  4 года назад +1

      OUCH! Hope you had an oar. I guess steering with your hands dragging in the water isn't too bad though. I have seen that hobbies steering breaks too. They just use the string but I don't think it is as strong as your kite string. From what I have seen it is people upgrading their rudder to the bigger ones that strains the string and breaks it. I will probably try that string if my steering goes again. What did you do to your steering handle? I find it strains my wrist a little when I go out all day.

    • @MSmith-jf5wo
      @MSmith-jf5wo 4 года назад +1

      @@PeelingLine On the Titan, the cable was held by a little "grub-screw" fitting, at the handle (that's where it broke, and I had to reach all the way back and grab the rudder control, behind me!...can you spell "Twisted Back", for over an hour?). Haha!
      As soon as I get some time on my buddy's mill, I plan on making a rudder with a spring-loaded "kick-up" (longer, wider, and down deeper into the water - as Titans are "notorious" for "wandering off course"!). The extension I have now is just a plastic dollar store "add on", to the original rudder - but it helps (I used S/S Rivets with back-up washers, so they wouldn't corrode!).
      The "Kite String" I used says 320 Kg. , and I haven't had any problems with it. (I also "re-did" the rudder top, making a half-pulley assy. to add to it. Rudder now goes 180 degrees, and I can nearly "pivot"). Haha! A lot easier to steer and stay straight, also.

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  4 года назад

      @@MSmith-jf5wo I have had to do it and know the feeling but not for an hour. Might have to do the same with the pulleys. Reducing the turning radius would be nice.

    nice video on the cable fix! thanks! I can see a problem you may encounter, I didn't have the cable problem, but that screw that goes through the steering lever: It will tighten down when you steer leaving you with a frozen rudder out in the sea. You probably need to get a new nylon coated nut, then use some loctite (blue) on that screw & nut when you tighten it.(thanks to the fellow mako rider on fb that gave me this advice)

    • @PeelingLine

    Man that stinks, and they did not even get back to you on it. I am like a mod fix it type of guy... Have some pointers for you... When you put those cables in you should coat them with a grease so they slide easy though the passageways of the cables and stuff. Now you can also use some thin oil and drip a some down each end that a cable comes out from the cable outside casing or component and the oil should work it's way down the cable and also make it more slippery and not rust and last longer I used to ride freestyle bikes until I was 30 years old and then mountain bikes I always used thin oil down the cables it works great . another thing the seat clamp you could probably go around that clip once you have it adjusted the way you like with some gorilla tape or put a zip tie around it so it can't flip and delatch? ... Hope this helps ya bud. 👍at least you got it all fixed up and made this video to let others know of these problems.

    Thats bad customer service by Riot. Good to get the word out, cuz we wont buy their products. At least you will not be spinning in circles with a stuck rudder. 🤣 Nice DIY fix, Peeling Line❗️
