When me and my son was in a homeless shelter because I had lost everything when my dad died, I mean I was just not here I was in deep Mourning, so thankfully t h i s shelter for families took me and my son in all we have to do was go through counseling also budgeting classes because they think that you you know how to budget when you get evicted and that was absolutely not the case in my case.... when my dad died I just could not function but anyway the counseling parts help me out tremendously and they had computer room where we put a resume on the floppy disk and showed us how to do all of that but I already know how to do that too but you know when you tell somebody it tickles me when they trying to find you a job what they think you should do oh you can do you get more money when you do this no darling I'm a cake decorator I'm a baker I'm not a chef😂 so anyway one of the other things we had to do we had to do Monday nights in these meetings which consists of movies about forgiveness and what are the movies I think the name of it was amazing grace I didn't get the premise of the movie I didn't care about the movie all I saw is these white people who own this place think that it's a narrative for us to see this movie about slavery and how this one slave I think forgave his master or something I don't know I just saw the shackles and it drove me crazy!!!! And I walked out of the movie in the president or whoever she was of the shelter place was in her office and they sent me to her office like I was sent to the principal's office I'm a grown woman😂 and she asked me are you okay and I'm like no I'm not, now this is a christian-based shelter and she said one of the requirements is to stay for the Monday night classes I'm like yeah but you watching a movie that is offensive to me and she said what is the official about it I said it's about slavery she's like okay..... and I looked at her I chuckled I said to her you will never understand and she said what do you mean I said you're not black, yes she was a white woman she could never understand and she said I don't understand what you mean because I'm white I'm like yes you are and she found that offensive I just started laughing and I'm like okay. And I said well can I leave now cuz I'm getting tired of the conversation right now she said sure, so I left and the next morning she saw me at the office and she came up to me and she said I got to apologize to you, she said I prayed about the situation she got some type of clarity she said you're right I can never walk in your shoes..... and at that moment I cried I mean boo-hooing because finally finally somebody heard me especially somebody of her stature actually listened and felt where I was coming from because I told her that movie represent to me everything that I hated white people about everything about white people I could not stand it like those shackles I was bound but when she said what she said the hate became less and then my heart began to open up because that one part she actually listened and understood.

We hear about actors when they get so deep into their characters & the time they must spend after the production. But with our Black actors, it makes me wonder with a film such as this 😢 Will Smith must do extensive work to get out of character but we all go back in that space when we are confronted with people who are racist & say to ourselves “Here we go again!” This is a perpetual & ongoing unique level of “stress” experience shared among Black people. That we must choose how we handle such situations……

It stays with you for generations. It will take a very long time to heal. Remembering can be the leveller that's needed to stand firm and strong in yourself. Work to forgive, but never forget. Yes, I couldnt stop the tears from falling either ( _despite the fact that I am Greek_ ), and we Greeks are all too familiar when it comes to _slavery._
Greeks were _enslaved_ by the Ottoman Empire ( _Turkey_ ) for 400 years, all the way up until our LIBERATION in 1928. The _trauma_ is still "fresh" for us, and what makes it even worse is that the Turkish Govt. ( _and its leaders, as well as their people_ ) REFUSE to not only _acknowledge_ this, but they moreover refuse to ACCEPT the pure INHUMANE ATROCITIES they committed against us.
When _they_ INVADED us, they would take all of the YOUNG BOYS ( _below the age of 18_ ), round them up in every town's "square" and in front of their Mothers, they would CUT OFF their _male genitalia_ and their _tongues._
When it came to the _women_ --- they RAPED every "female" as young as 4 years old.
They changed our names by adding a _suffix_ of THEIR surnames to our surnames, so that others knew WHO our "Master" was. They basically tried to _eradicate_ us off the face of the earth ( _and we were a very small nation of under 6 million at the time I believe, since we are only 10 million presently!_ ), so yea -- we KNOW and we IDENTIFY w/ what the White Pilgrims ( _Invaders_ ) did to the Indigenous people of America ( _they literally murdered 60 SIXTY MILLION Native Indians all across America when they landed there! History cannot be erased -- no matter how hard they try!_ ), and once they got rid of the Indigenous peoples, they then brought African people there AGAINST their will, and not only USED them as something far worse than "animals" --- but TORTURED, RAPED, and KILLED them as if they were "animals". 😔
America will never be "respected" as a Nation, unless they do RIGHT and pay REPARATIONS to the African peoples they KIDNAPPED, ENSLAVED, BRUTALIZED + MURDERED in cold blood!
Here in Greece, we have a vast African _diaspora_ and the people of Africa are FREE to live as everyone else does here; a person of _color_ doesnt fear the police here, in fact : its quite the opposite --- its the police who FEAR the PEOPLE!
And here is an interesting fact: Not ONE person of African descent ( _whether they are citizens of this country or not_ ) has EVER committed a _crime_ nor has ever been arrested here. NEVER. EVER.
The vid ( below) follows around my good friend Kevin who is from Ghana, Africa. His parents immigrated here nearly 40 years ago, and Kevin was born here and has grown up here all his life; he speaks Greek BETTER than most Greeks! And as you will assess from the vid, he is KING here.
He lives as a Greek Citizen and is RESPECTED + LOVED by everyone he encounters. He decided to become a "rapper" and the funny thing is: he "raps" in Greek and he manages to combine his African heritage along w/ Greek history, and everyone LOVES him, because he REPRESENTS us as a people and tells our history and the history of Africa in his songs. He is proud to be an African Greek, and we are proud of him as well, as a Nation, and as a people.

I’m from Texas. My parents ended up sending us to a pw school district and the things I went through were never on the scale of slavery but it scarred me. I learned so much about our people on my own because I was singled out to defend my whole race, is what it felt like, in classrooms where I was literally the only black student. So while the world smiled about Obama I went through hell. The whole class starring at me and putting bets of a week or even two days on his life astonished me. Til this day they’ll pretend that nothing could be the matter. When in fact it was “all good” because I had no choice in my mind. I said that to say the sheer anger and rage in my heart went away when Will said “we fought to be here and our place here”. It gave me a perspective. A lot of these things my family doesn’t even know. My black friends don’t know and even they say I’m taking it too far when they try to say I’m white. I know much more than the average person about what we’ve been through and are going through. I’m not saying that I hate white people I don’t. I’m a child of God and so is everybody else in my mind and heart. I’m just passionate about the truth and being made to be quiet about things I can clearly see happening is frustrating. Can’t wait to see this movie

Every time I remember Will from my youth in Fairmount park on Sundays at the plateau. I touched his ankles and tapped his sneakers when he was on top of that little shack they played the music from so I could ask him for a song I wanted to hear. He wasn't famous at all back then. This was before he had any songs for the masses. We were so young. I'm the same age as Will. To have him playing this very important role and articulate his experience and our communities perseverance is profound. Our generation were raised by the children/grandchildren of slaves. Its not as far reaching back as people try to paint. Anyway Will went from Fairmount Park to the Grammys to the big screen. He has had his own perseverance journey. And I smile at the memory of its beginnings on Sunday afternoons in the park for free with us Philly kids just having fun and enjoying our vibe. This video feels full circle.

This movie is one of the best movies I have every seen! And the best acting I have ever seen in any character. And I'm a HUGE cinephile. The opening scene when he tore the hinges off the door as they grabbed him said so much. It showed that this character is extremely strong, extremely passionate, extremely loved and extremely determined. He kept that same energy the whole movie. It was like Will was out of his body. He wanted to make sure we knew who that Hatian hero was beyond that picture. Nobody on this planet can convey his spirit and love the way Will did. Emancipation is forever etched in my psyche and in my spirit. And for that I will always be thankful.

I remember thinking that if I submerge myself next to the wall, when I feel helpless, I will just reach for the wall and pull myself out of the water.
With my eyes closed and that feeling of needing to breath was knocking, and I could feel at that point that I was just not swimming anywhere but I was too scared to open my eyes. After I finally gave up on trying to swim I try to reach for the wall I believed I am still next to, and, it was not there anymore, I thought I was safe, and now I knew I was not. I can relate a lil bit with what Will is saying about reaching back for your original self - given that I rap too and I get that bliss of stillness in your mind while the flow is just pouring out of my throat.

    The 11:00 minute mark:
What Will has described here is the demonic force that took over him when getting in character. We have to understand where acting comes from. Around 530 BC, in ancient Athens, Greece is when the tragedies, plays, and dramas started. It was literally a religious experience. It was literally a religious ritual. It was an act of worship. The theater was next to the temple of Apollo, who was the pagan god of poetry, dance, the arts, etc. When the audience cheered and gave adulation to the actors they were praising Apollo and other gods associated with entertainment. The actors often found their “muse” to inspire them in their acting. The muse were demonic forces unbeknownst to them then and to Will Smith now. Remember, Beyoncé said that when she’s on stage a spirit takes over her. She called the force Sasha Fierce. It’s a demon. . .
The same thing with the Olympic Games beginning in 776 BC. The athletes called upon the gods and goddesses to impart speed and strength to win their races and wrestling matches. They invoked the spirits of these gods to appease the chief pagan god of Zeus, whose statue was adjacent to the stadium.

The only red table worth watching. It's amazing that he's kept being himself for so long with that job.

The absolute beauty on this table. A masterclass! The love of a father and his children. This conversation is so wonderfully layered and executed. I will always love and respect this man and the impeccable work he has done and continues to do. His legacy is ICONIC. Thank you so much Will, Trey, Jaded and Willow.

I cried thru this whole episode and as a black person I would like to say I feel cheated. Everything was stripped from us and we were left as shells most people know where they come from and know their ancestry which was all but lost to us, the brutality was unbelievable and they don’t want this talked about in schools but they want to keep pushing the fake text books praising the white man and all his discoveries and accomplishments, amazing isn’t it!!!

These "experiences" have remained embedded in our Soul for years. That's why it's so hard for some of us to overcome these "feelings".

I love this man! I love the fact that he's educating his children! This is something we need to pass on to our own, despite the color of one's skin.
Powerful conversation, transparent observations, and sharing.
