as someone who grew up in the south, robert pattinsons accent was not off. ive met people whove talked lie that.
@pumpkin knight I'm sorry but his french accent was terrible in the king, ask anyone from france
I mean, and he was also portraying a conceited preacher man that loved the sound of his own voice, so the character itself was putting on a bit of an affected accent.
Pattinson admitted to even making himself laugh at how over the top it was
Adam didn't say it sounded off all the time, he just said there were a few points that it sounded a bit weird. I've noticed that with Robert Pattinson in other films where he can occasionally slip up on his accent. He still did a pretty phenomenal job though, was certainly a hard accent to get mostly downpacked!
Honestly (and this is a general feeling, not a criticism of Adam), people should probably just stop judging the accuracy of accents.
How can they know if they're accurate or not, unless it's their own or one they know very well?
Consistency is a different matter. It should always be consistent.
The lion king review does not exist, it is just a concept used to launder money
Is this a reference to something?
IsabellatheCat nope

Adam praising a child performance. Never thought I would see that happening.
He's actually praised certain child performances multiple times before this video lol (a few examples being his reviews for Funny Games, Happy End, Minari, and Eighth Grade).
If the performance deserves appreciation and there's no reason to not give it.
@@coolcatstudios3665 Even the child performances from It

it's crazy cause most kids just suck, did you see that baby in American sniper? Couldn't emote, stiff as a door, pathetic
The Devil All The Time was a really good film if you enjoy a nice train of misery in your plot, good atmosphere, and great performances.
i havent even gotten to that part of the video but with this comment I already know I'll watch it fs
Deckard ya, I thought it was neat
I absolutely loved it.
Although the movie had some good scenes, I just couldn't find any meaning in all the fucked up shit that was happening and after a while I started to predict the plot by wondering every time a new character appeared, what could be the worst thing this guy could be or do?. This killed my interest in the movie and I ended up dropping it.
I trust adam's opinion more than mine so maybe I'll give it another try.
@@KaneK1234 you find basically anything positive to exist in a movie to be boring?
Chiming in as a Virginia/Tennessee border guy: I can certainly see how anyone would think Pattinson's accent was a little off, definitely a unique dialect he's got going on. That being said I could toss a rock from my porch and hit three folks who talk like that. It's a crazy good attempt, honestly. Glad to hear you enjoyed the movie though!
That would have to be a pretty big rock if it hit three people.
His accent was actually praised by Eric Singer, accent coach.
@@RedFloyd469 Don't underestimate my aim.
@@skadi84 and also by me, accent haver. That's cool to know though!

I'm a normie so I mostly remember him for Breaking Bad and El Camino. He was so perfect in that role that I thought he felt a little out of place in Jackie Brown.
@@YggdrasilAudio your joking right
@@durtyjtv No, I had genuine difficulty imagining him as someone other than Ed the Disappearer.
Hilariously, compared to the book, the Devil All the Time movie is really toned down. Personally, I think it was smart. I loved the book but I could die happy without watching a lot of the cut scenes acted out.
Oh boi, thanks for commenting. Now I'm definitely going to have to rent it from my local library
Any examples of how more graphic it was?
@@orconoftime same lol
@@dagoesquer2587 A lot of the murder scenes from the serial killers, Carl and Sandy, were cut. A lot of Carl and Sandy was cut period, but its understandable why. One of the kills at the end of the book has a head basically getting blown off. There was pedophilia more than a couple times, and a lot more people got bloodied up in fist fights. It's a great quick read, or audiobook if you like, less than 10 hours.
@@Anomaisie finished it last night and agree that some of Carl and Sandy's scenes could have been removed in favour of more scenes with Bodecker or Roy but wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who enjoys neo-noir/ Southern Gothic type stories.

"That prayer log dont work too good"
Nope
Thematically, probably the best line in the film.
That child actor in devil all the time is going to be in every movie where a child actor is needed after this review.
The Devil All the Time is a good movie, but with a weird story structure and I felt that the psychos storyline didn't connect with the main character's storyline very well by the end.
Exactly!
@The Rue Morgue it does connect that way, but I didn't feel it was that impactful or interesting.
Someone should do an animated movie where every character is either voiced by Jim Cummings or Jim Cummings.
Robert Pattersons entire career is going to be I'm not Edward Cullen.
He is such a good actor. Shame that's all people will see of him. Batman is a his shot to be viewed as not Eddie.
@@Mr_December I view him as Connie from Good Time, although when I watch Good Time I forget it’s him, fantastic actor.
@@pasternak9496I'm more referring to the general public, but I'm glad you see him as a great actor. My favorite performance of his was The Lighthouse
@@Mr_December Good Choice.
The wolf of snow Hollow is very nearly a masterpiece to me. I found it hilarious and all about subtext. My friend and I went in expecting nothing and came out with our minds blown. Such an extreme mix of unique emotions.
The Devil All the Time is a masterpiece to me. The way everything came together at the end was so damn amazing.
Probably a 9 for me
Snow Hollow is a weird movie. In a typical thriller you expect all the scenes, even the character building ones to be directly linked to the main plot, if only thematically. In this film not all are. The main character has two subplots that could be their own unrelated after school specials. Yet, it somehow works; on the strength of great acting and even curiousity as to what bizarre direction any given scene was going to take. Then it ties it all together in the end and I was like, "huh. I'm kind of surprised that worked as a movie."
The Devil All the Time probably has Tom Hollands best performance so far, and I'm not even a Tom Holland fan.
Edit: and The Wolf of Snow Hollow looks awesome. I've enjoyed the guy's other works so I'll definitely check it out. Lots of films have been on the backburner because of other things.
It's weird indeed. Everywhere I comment, people tell me how much they love me and my videos. Sometimes it is annoying. But right now it would be okay. So say something nice about my content, dear ilo
Tom holland is good in the movie, but I just can't him seriously. He looks like he's 16.
@@fathel9221 Well the character is a young adolescent still in school so it can work. Especially in the south, plus your complaint is so inconsequential it's kinda sad. And like I said I don't really care for him at all.
@@fathel9221 He is playing a 16-18 year old though so... ;)
I honestly think he killed it in Far From Home. I believed he was Peter Parker
loved the devil all the time, I think it would of worked better as like a 3 hour movie or mini series, wish there was more story to the husband wife and preacher storylines, with so many intertwining stories some felt like they weren't explored fully
I really enjoyed Devil All the Time. It was so good the performances really made it something special
I read this in Bob Ross’s voice.
Meh
MIK0050 yeah I do see why some people wouldn’t like it. I just love films with unique narratives. And the way all the narratives meet in the end is so dang satisfying
@@newthejsterjacob408 I don’t see how a dozen plot conveniences amount to “a unique narrative”. There are several films, among which No Country for Old Men, which’ve done this concept much better and more tastefully. This was just schlock pretending to be artsy.
@@Mmmmilo I'm a part of the Devil All The Time crowd, I really enjoyed it although I acknowledge it's not cinematically very impressive. But I still thought it was fun :)
I liked both movies a lot. I get that the narration in Devil all the Time can be seen as a cheap device but at least it served a very important purpose to the movie. A lot of the interesting insights into characters that the narration provided seem like they’d be very hard to convey without narration.
I don’t think so
me and the wife are watching The Devil All the Time today. I'm excited to see this movie because I love the book and the other books from the same author Donald Ray Pollock. Check out his book Knockemstiff. It's visceral, disturbing, violent, sad, and full of life.
Sounds like a great book.
"This film"
I'm personally really glad that I went into "the devil all the time" knowing next to nothing about it. While I don't think I'll watch it again, it's definitely one of those movies that will stick with me for years to come.
yeah I still can't get over the dad crucifying the dog
I think it has a lot of rewatch value. I've seen it a few times now.
Personally, the narration in The Devil all the time did bother me somewhat, and hindered the experience. Many emotional/heavy moments in the film had their impact immediately stopped because you then had to listen to the narrator. I think the tone of the film would've improved drastically if you had to sit and stew in those moments instead of having the narrator just straight up tell you how you should interpret the scene. But hey, that's just my 2 cents.
Agree 10000%
Yeah you're completely right
I would say that I actually thought the narrator was great. I enjoyed the job he did and thought the delivery was perfect as it should be considering he was also the author of the novel the film is based on.
@@CujoBD. I wouldn’t say the narration was bad in terms of performance. It’s just that it sucked me out of the moment and ruined most opportunities for subtlety or showing rather than telling. I’m a book, it makes sense to explain the things he did. But in a movie, show whenever possible.
@@Ringofire280 Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of narration as it is. Off the top of my head I thought Mr. Robot did a good job with using a narrator, but for the most part I agree that having a narrator can hinder the intensity of a dramatic scene if not used correctly. I didn't HATE the narration in this film, but I would have prefered if they hadn't used it in certain scenes.
Robert Pattinson was amazing. After seeing him so often lately, I think this film was really the one that convinced me that he is legitimately a very good actor who can truly bring characters to life instead of them being just himself saying different things. It's a shame he didn't get more screentime. Honestly its a shame this film wasn't longer, or that it wasn't a miniseries or something. I really feel like the story had so much potential but a lot of stuff wasn't really developed. This is just my guess, but after seeing the "Based on the novel by" on the end credits, I think this is your typical problem of trying to fit a really long novel into a two-hour movie. I'm sure the characters and situations are a lot more developed in the book and the emotional moments the story is going for hit a lot harder. Here in the movie it just feels like you have a bunch of very basic characters that you don't develop (aside from Tom Holland) and put them into this wacky series of connected incidents.
The Devil All The Time is a 10/10 low key horror CLASSIC. The sudden violence and interwoven plot of a Tarantino, combined with the absurd humor of a Coen brothers movie, and with a near-constant noise floor of Ari Aster dread.
Who does that?
Devil All the Time feels like a well produced series spliced into two and a half hours.
I love that I have been encouraged to watch films outside my norm. This is my favorite review youtuber
Adam is a great reviewer. He notices details that usually escape me. He has an amazing eye for this. Being his friend has given me perks into knowing about good movies before his videos are released, but most people can have this advantage as well by following his twitter and his streams/hangouts/podcast.
The biggest problem I had with The Devil All The Time was there was nothing really connecting each of the events. These big things keep happening, but we aren't given any time to understand the circumstances or what each character is thinking or feeling. It constantly drops the viewer into events instead of developing characters and leading to the events in a satisfying way. The viewer ends up feeling sort of neutral the whole time. There were also plotlines and characters that were unnecessary. I personally think the story should have just focused on the two children and how their parents/upbringing affected their relationship with God and how Robert Pattinson's character was a force between them.
Overall, the film was very well made. I think the fact that it was adapted from a novel got in the way of making a satisfying script/story. I enjoyed it, I just didn't get a lot out of it.
I think this is spot on. It did make me curious to read the book.
@@Hattes same here. I had a similar issue with the films The Light Between Oceans and If Beale Street Could Talk. Both very good films, but I think the fact that they were adaptations got in the way of their overall effectiveness a bit. I think screenwriters adapting novels have such a tough job, but they need to remember to make it into a successful script and what to omit/include/change.
Take a shot every time Adam says “this film”
Also "incredibly" lol
Really looking forward to The Wolf of Snow Hollow, glad you did it so I know it's out :)
Devil All the Time made me want to see Campos direct a Cormac McCarthy adaptation.
Blood Meridian please
The Devil All the Time has a great soundtrack but goddamn if they use that main theme almost every scene. Took away its impact after a while for me.
Under the silver lake is still one of my favorite movies
I was so excited to see another werewolf movie coming out & now I’m even more excited to hear it’s actually a good watch!
Jim Cummings looks like the lovechild between Jon Hamm and Ty Burrell (Phil in Modern Family)
Absolutely loved Thunder Road, I'll be watching The Wolf of Snow Hollow tonight. On a side note, I wanted to re-watch your review of I'm Thinking of Ending Things only to find that it was copyright claimed. Really liked your analysis of it, hopefully you get it resolved.
can’t wait to see what Jim does next!
Devil all the time was my favorite movie this year.
I was so anxious to hear that 'closer to an 8 than a 6' line for Devil All the Time
I loved both tDatT and Thunder Road, and was already REALLY looking forward to tWoSH.
excited to watch both
Curious to see the first movie now. I watched The Devil' several weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. It was sorta funny that most of the cast were Brits putting on southern accents. That area has as wide a variety of accents as England does. Drive 45 minutes in any direction, and you'll hear a different accent, and none of the actors really nailed that region, but I didn't find it distracting. They did a really good job recreating the 40s/50s southern Ohio landscape (minus the hills, since it was filmed in Georgia iirc). My dad grew up in that era and location, so watching this movie was like watching his old family photos come to life. Some parts still look like that today, really.
The Devil All the Time movie was good, but it left out some interesting/important things from the book that I felt could've enhanced it and connected the dots earlier. But I can see why some of the plot points were left out.
3:10 Don't forget Bill Skarsgard of IT fame.
Devil all the Time was killer good. I found it by accident and watched it three times in one week, which is something I never do. The music score and the Coen Brothers styling made it top notch. I spent four years in the Deep South and the accents in the film were fine. There are so many different dialects there, that you can’t really generalize them.
Hey! Happy to see jimmy tatro, underrated youtube alum
Those two are very good movies!
Aw Yiss, I thoroughly enjoyed 'The Devil All the Time.' By far the best Harry Potter reunion I never knew I needed. From GA but briefly lived in WV and all the accents were never not immersive, but I might just be dElUsIoNaL
I heard really good things about Thunder Road and definitely plan on watching it sometime. But The Wolf of Snow Hollow is something I'm actually interested in watching the very moment I can.
The Devil All the time is a movie that I wanted to love but every story point in the film felt so rushed. I feel like it would've been better as an 8 part Netflix series. Plus the narration is complete pointless and also tells us things that will happen later in the movie, deflating the tension for a specific scene that happens later. It felt like a film that they wanted to make as close to the source material as possible, which lead to it being unfocused, and clunky. Maybe even just another hour added to it, taking out the narration would've made it work better
I think I was a lot more positive than you are on it, but I agree it would've been MUCH better as a Netflix miniseries with less narration having to tie everything together
Overall I really liked the narrating just because it was done by the original writer.
Rushed is such a good word to describe it. There wasn't a lot of weight behind any of the "big" scenes. The characters were thin.
Been waiting on u to review devil all the time
Robert's accent wasn't off just INCREDIBLY specific. It's rare but its very spot on.
well done
Saw snow hollow first and was meaning to watch thunder road so I followed up. Great movies and completely different. I could put on snow hollow every Halloween to rewatch. Thunder road is something I don't know if I can rewatch anytime soon.
Adam, I think you could really hold even longer on the 'n's if you put your heart into it.
"And I'm giving this one a sevennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn out of tennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn."
You should keep an eye out for Red Post on Escher Street. It’s the latest joint from the insane Sion Sono, and it’s one of the years best movies, in my opinion!!
The Devil All The Time was a great movie and of course, not for someone who doesn't have patience for a long drama. Tastefully done and left me thinking of the film and the characters for weeks after watching it. Would recommend.
Man I don’t even watch any of these movies; yet I still love the videos
Honestly I think these movies look great I’m gonna go check them out
I really liked The Devil All the Time. The moment I shut it off I said aloud, " Well that was depressing". So spot on review.
Thunder road is one of my favorite movies of all time and I can’t wait to check out the wolf of snow hallow
I think "The Devil..." felt like a high budget student film. The narration really got on my nerves and created a barrier between me and the characters. I want to understand character thru what they do and say not from what some outside voice is telling me about them. Show don't tell, you know ;) Well it has some good stuff in it and it is worth a watch anyhow.

I totally forget the Simba video is still something I can look forward to.
Devil All the Time was hands down the best Marvel Origin story I've seen.

Will we get a Borat 2 review soon?
And a boys season 2 follow up?
idk about Borat 2, but on stream he said he didn't really have much to say on boys season 2. He said it was just fine, not terrible but nowhere near as good as the first season.
@@darienwest4748 he said it was slightly worse.

Never would've thought that you'd know about American Vandal..
I need to see the first movie PURELY for Riki Lindhome.
I really enjoyed the devil all the time. It definitely entertained me and kinda stuck with me after I watched it.
Haha my sister liked it too, but she thought it was a little hard to follow. Probably because it was a little slow in the beginning like you said.
I liked The Devil All the Time so much I had to go back and throw the killers' photo negative montage into my editor, and invert the image. . . . there's some very disturbing stuff in there that doesn't quite read watching the film normally.

Didnt know that Adam could count pass 6
I think Devil All the TIme needed more breathing room and would have been a great 6 episode miniseries.
Both of these movie rock so fucking hard

The Wold of Snow Hollow is worth the watch.
I.loved devil all.the time ,
Nice i can relate cause i saw both

Adam, will you be watching and reviewing Borat 2??
A nitpicky thing that bothered me about devil all the time is how Tom Holland’s characters dad leaves him a Luger from the war, but he was a marine in the pacific and Lugers were used by Germany in Europe. I guess the dad could’ve bought it if another vet, but it Would’ve made more sense for him to have a Japanese Nambu pistol
Lion King is still coming before November though right?
I enjoyed both films. 8/10 for both
I admit that I'm a bit confused that you said the cinematography in The Wolf Of Snow Hollow was quite good.
From all of the footage you showed, it's shot and lit like a soap opera. Nearly single clip was a slow dolly in on an evenly lit and flat set.
I would think you’d have to watch the movie to make that judgement? Kind of hard to tell wether the cinematography works to support a film when it’s shown in disjointed clips with someone talking over them.
Just to add, Jimmy Tatro did more then just star in American vandal, from my knowledge he also had a lot to do with story building/ writing for the first season.
I went into the Devil All the Time with the understanding that Robert Pattinson played a vampire preacher and that it was about Tom Holland fighting ghoulish types of the such. It wasn't until maybe 2/3rds of the way that I realized it is not a supernatural movie. I felt like it helped the experience and I really enjoyed the movie.
Loved Thunder Road and Wolf of Snow Creek, anybody have some recommendations for movies similar to Wolf of SC?
I can't believe how fantastic the devil all the time was. 9/10 for me
