In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

Honestly, this was my first thought. My second thought was "Could I actually eat an egg like a snake or would I choke to death on an egg?"

Didn't assume I would have to eat the shell. Was going to chew through it anyway for speed if it showed any signs of not just peeling beautifully because I said so.

It's the only thing any of them needed to eat! Not even the whole thing, just the part with the writing on it- that was my solution, I'm surprised none of them tried that. And I don't think any of them actually ate the part of the egg that said 'eat me'- the shell, which is kinda funny to me.

I often wonder what would happen on one of the studio tapings if Alex went to Greg: "Would you like to see [contestant X]?" and Greg just went: "Nah, I wanna see [contestant Y]"
He's done it in outtakes. They just make him rerecord it saying yes and cut the original take in the edit.
most of the time the order is pre-made for comedic/dramatic effect, like in this task with catherine's "disgusting boys" comment. so that interaction would have to be scripted too
@@tatapnhobI recall the episode (uploaded here) actually has her say that first. Then it shows each of the other guys not doing that, and her looking surprised.

@@truthteller99999 I actually hadn't realized it till the moment Greg said "How lovely it is that you can devise this show and then hide behind me". I knew from somewhere that Alex devised each task, but never really thought about how it meant he was basically the actual showrunner.
Of all the times Katherine came up with her own interpretation of the task, I’m surprised this is the one time it didn’t occur to her she could just cook the egg even though it never mentioned it on the task
The important thing is she thought she had already lost the task because others would have eaten the egg immediately, so there was no point in going further. She didn't bother to think what other things she could do as she was already last in the task.

It's such a shame that series 2 only had so few episodes, the cast was amazing and the show still felt so fresh and experimental. I like the newer series as much as anyone, but somehow I always like coming back to series 2 the most.
I feel the same about series 3!! I want full series!
I would definitely like to see more of the cast of series 1 and 2 now that the show is more established.
Romesh, Rosin, Frank, Tim. Josh need a full series. Justice for the series that didn't get 10 shows
My favourite series was the Tim Vine, Liza Tarbuck, Russel Howard, Alice Levine & Asim Chaudhry series, absolutely stellar line up
Fun fact, UK eggs are safe to eat raw! I can't imagine it's pleasant, but any lions mark grade a (which is basically all) eggs are safe to eat raw even if you're pregnant or immunocompromised.
Unless the chicken is severely sick any eggs are safe to eat raw.
Even a chicken with salmonella will be safe to eat there eggs raw.
Usually the danger with eggs is the shell ironically as the outside is an amazing surface for bacteria and viruses to thrive on.
The inside of the egg is an extremely sterile environment compared to most food even salads.

in the UK, almost all chickens are vaccinated against salmonella and and so eggs can (mainly) be eaten raw. if an egg has a red lion stamp, it can be eaten raw.

I like a Dr Pepper with my eggs, too. I always think of Joe and say to myself "Took a hit on that one, Mate. Took a hit on it."
As a side note, I grew up about three hours drive from Waco, Texas, where it was created. I love seeing the world enjoying our "Fizzy Benylin."
Only in Texas can the city known for creating Dr peppper be home to an (arguably) even worse event.

@lifesbutastumbleKind of is tho. Alex always portraits himself as being below Greg, and if that dynamic changes (like here), its usually cut (look at the outtakes)

I had to look up the word kayfabe, but yes, that's a good description of what happened.
My recollection is that in recent series it happens more often that Alex is acknowledged as the author of the tasks. I guess they figure most viewers are aware of it anyway, so the occasional mention is alright if it means they can leave a funny line in.
They do it all time nowadays. Early on, yeah definitely.
I am disappointed at the lack of competition! This is a 15 second task. Step 1 spin the egg, if it keeps spinning after a few seconds it’s boiled. If it stops quickly then it’s raw. Step 2 is to crack the egg directly into your mouth and swallow

If they aren't stripped of their natural wax layer by industrial washing, like they are in the US, yes you can.
Depends on a couple things, including their processing before they hit the grocery store and how fresh they are. For this task, I'm guessing the show would have ensured the eggs were "safe to eat"

They did this challenge in the Portuguese taskmaster.. One of the participants ate it in 2 seconds

This is my favorite task to talk about when I introduce Taskmaster to friends, so glad I can I finally post this individual clip!
There's quite a few that are good to introduce new people to the show. My favorite to use is "Identify the contents of the briefcase" that was filled with frozen peas.
I love series 1 eat the most watermelon. I laugh so hard every time. This is the greatest show ever.

I guess this was an early enough series that the cardinal rule had not been fully established. Always finish the task, no matter how long it takes.

I was surprised by the contestants and audience's reactions (all except Osman) to eating a raw egg. It's... not that big of a deal, and safe for most British eggs. Have people not tried mayonnaise or egg nog?

To be fair, from Richard's perspective, his egg was a *lot* smaller than Katherine's. Just a lil' sippy.
When i was a boy scout i went through Arrow of Light camp, first morning after camping in the middle of the woods we were given 1 slice of bread, and 1 uncooked egg and said that's breakfast. Some of the boys lost their egg in the campfire trying to boil it. I pulled out my knife, poked a hole in the top and put my finger over it, flipped it over and poked another small hole in the bottom, then put it up to my mouth, let go of the hole with my finger and sucked it down raw. It honestly wasn't even that bad. took longer to poke the holes than to eat the entire egg.
i always wondered since i first saw this task if somebody just ate the piece of shell with "me" on it instead of the whole egg would that count?
i think they probably wouldve given them points for creativity but it would take ages to carve a piece out of the shell and even then eating egg shell is probably worse than just downing the raw egg
@@notster7114 Who's carving? Just break it with your fingers it'd take a few seconds at most
The shell is probably the most dangerous/bacterium prone part of a raw egg, so that would be ill-advised even with serious/high-stakes. Salmonella ain't a joke.

It happens a bunch. Maybe they don't feel bad about it because a lot of tasks are already on the channel as full episodes anyway.

Raw eggs should be fine in the UK, because all our eggs are innoculated and irradiated, and the reason for that is because of past salmonella fears

Salmonella rates are much lower in UK than US. I don't know why the contestants and audience had such a strong reaction, maybe just for comical effect, it's not considered that big a deal in UK.

This is where the term "you suck" comes from btw. People used to say "go suck eggs" and it basically meant "get lost Boomer" (because old toothless people would suck eggs)

I had a friend growing up who wanted to be a zoologist, and she took a lot of college courses about all manner of things relating to animals. I was surprised to hear her tell me that eating raw eggs from a factory farm just about removed all chance of getting salmonella, due to how clean the eggs are. Mind you, this is in America, where we wash our eggs with bleach before putting them in a carton. Not the same as England, where they don't do that.

What a bunch of wimps. I'd have just cracked the thing directly into my mouth and been done with it. The fact you all though an entire raw egg could fit into an egg cup was hilarious! You never eaten a soft boiled egg before? They just hold the bottom 1/4 of the egg.

I'd be done in 7 seconds. Smash a bit of the egg on sth hard (teeth?) then swallow the inside, done. Why? After World War 2 food was rare in Germany if you weren't a rich farmer. Grandpa (12 in 1945) was starving like everyone, living of cooked roots 3 times a day, 7 times a week. He used to steal eggs from the rich farmers like everyone else but BEWARE don't get caught you'd get the hit end if the hay fork on you. You'd take some eggs and swall them raw and take two ot three for your family and RUN.
Eating raw egg is perfectly fine and standard procedure in Japan.
Unfortunately, its another one of those murican things which has been forcibly exported to other places around the world...
Depends on a bunch of factors, with big ones being the cleaning and storage of the egg from farm to plate.

Do you know why in America, supermarkets store eggs in the fridge, while in the UK they store than on the shelf?
Because American food standards require all eggs to be fully washed before they reach the supermarket, which removes a protective layer. Then the only way to keep the eggs safe to eat is it keep them in the fridge and with a shorter shelf-life.
In Britain and most of the world, the cleaning is not as thorough, and so the eggs are safe to store on a room temperature shelf.
The people who eat raw eggs aren't thinking about it, but if they were to do it in countries that treat their eggs the same way America does, they're putting themselves at greater risk.
