- This is Emily Roley. Out here, alone, in the middle of a river, in New Mexico. For the last couple of years, life for Emily has sounded like a river, cutting through the high desert, with the sound of her fly line slicing the air.
Not that long ago though, when I first met Emily, she was moving much, much faster. This is the story of leaving one life and starting another. Choosing to slow down, in the face of an ever fast moving world.

She is stronger and braver than I am. My entire life I have wanted to be a fishing guide. Everything in my life to my degrees, my free time, my house, my identity have been fishing. I am not a religious person, but my connection with the outdoors is how I keep going and is my higher power for rejuvenation. I see she surround herself with positive outdoor influences like Nick and Taylor. Heck, I even saw my friend James Garretson in the mix. Inspirational and I hope she keeps that smile for all of her days.

I look forward to flyfishing in NM. My daughter loves fishing with me- and flyfishing is her favorite. I can see her in Emily- and my little girl is only 12. I can see what the quiet has done for her! God bless,

Holy shit..... this is some spiritual stuff that speaks to me...…… as I write this I am on my first ever fly fishing trip to northern new Mexico…..currently my son and I are going threw a divorce as my current wife has been a stepmom/mom to him for the past 3 years and she is really all he as known as a mom figure....and she is very important to him...……. fly fishing has changed me as a human, it has given me hope, courage, and strength to fight on..... tomorrow 11/11/19 I'm going to drive to taos on my way home and hope to visit the shop
Great video and story, we were there in Taos New Mexico in Dec 2020 and did our first fly fishing trip.. Best day of our lives, very peaceful and awesome fishing... The Scenery is perfect 👍👍

Wow. I love fly fishing but working in the Hospital in Artesia NM doesn’t give me that chance to explore as much as I would like to but having my 2 dogs Rosie and Sasha pushes me to find a way.
Come up North, worth a weekend trip to find your soul brother. Valle Vidal has camping opportunities and plenty of fish.

Yeah, I can relate. I'm in the process of doing something like you did. Specifically retiring in New Mexico. I remember when I was 20 I went fishing by myself in Idaho and found myself by a river and the silence that I experienced was actually deafening. It actually kind of hurt my ears. I will be leaving California this summer to find my dream. Thanks for the inspiration.

That bridge is one of the best holes in the whole Rio grande box. Caught more fish in that area than I can count.
