For people wondering, criminal conspiracy roughly translates to "You're probably gonna commit a crime, so we're arresting you just to be on the safe side." It happens when you have a bad reputation around town. The guards just assume you're up to something because you've been known to be bad in the past.
Basically when people at school knows you cause trouble and then automatically you're guilty for everything that happens no matter if don't actually know what's going on
"Aw fuck, that crazy triple-homicide guy that got outta jail after only a year just showed up in town. Arrest him before he kills again."
Ohh. If that's actually how it works in-game, it would explain why I was run out of Daggerfall Kingdom by endless arrests.

-They put me in jail so long I missed my meeting with a character and now have failed the main quest

@TallDryGlass Bah, that’s nothing lad! When I arrived at my first town in Daggerfall, I accidentally murdered an innocent persoon with a misclick, in broad daylight. I pleaded not guilty in court, somehow managed to convince the court of my innocence, despite crowds of witnesses and was released. Later, however, the guards arrested me for “criminal conspiracy”, which basically meant I looked kinda dodgy and whatever crime was going in was probably my fault. I pleaded not guilty again and despite the fact that I actually wasn’t this time, I was still arrested and sent to prison. Beautiful game.
The cool thing about Daggerfall is that you get excited every time you see geometry with more than 5 polygons

@@agihammerthief8953 See, but what ya guys are missing is that this isn't just a guy who murdered three people, he's also the guy who got immediately arrested, and surrendered to the guards without a fight. Not exactly the kind of murderer who would be feared.
The locals probably trust the guards (the same ones on their way to arrest him) to protect them.

I want a mod that adds a villager screaming "shut the f**k up, I have work in the morning!" after every time Lysandus says vengeance.
There aren't any citizens out at night, but sure you can probably make the sound play coming out of nowhere.

Lol how about a mod where the guards think you are making the noise because you're the only living person outside, and they arrest you, because they don't believe in ghosts. We could call it Guards Are Skeptics or something

@@shadowmystery5613 the guards are skeptics though. For all they know you've been hiding in the dark for months yelling vengeance, and they just finally found you.
It's not like you have a customs agent record your time of arrival or anything.

Daggerfall Stealth is just sprinting everywhere with True Invisibility and smashing everything with a daedric weapon
I don't think Stealth is actually possible in Daggerfall. Sure, you may occasionally find a lone thief or knight and get a backstab, but chances are your backstab won't kill them and they'll start fighting you. And don't even try with liches.
So you might as well fight everything normally.

@@walnzell9328 Interesting fun story. My last Daggerfall playthrough was as an unarmed monk with skills basically in unarmed, languages, and mobility skills. Due to the languages pacifying opponents, I would run up behind them and punch them in the back. This had two unintended effects: my backstab skill, and my stealth skill both shot through the roof extremely quickly, and were soon maxed out despite starting at 5 and not training them whatsoever. Even the enemies that I did not pacify were completely oblivious to my presence and I was able to *sprint* around the dungeon while backstabbing basically everyone. No crouch, no slow movement, my 95 stealth meant I zipped around and backstabbed with nobody noticing me. My monk/diplomat character (accidentally) power-leveled assassin skills much faster than an actual dedicated assassin character would. Sneak is actually powerful in Daggerfall, as are the languages. A takeaway - I think that standing behind an enemy with their back to you levels sneak much faster than crouch sneaking around slowly like in later titles. People frustrated that sneak seems worthless are half right - it is, if you play it Skyrim style. Even if you don't have language skills or use calm, I bet your stealth will rise faster if you sprint toward an enemy with his back turned than doing stealth archer meme shit like it's a later title.
To the person in chat who asked how a skeleton can scream with no lungs, I say:

My answer would be, because there are only two kinds of undead in fiction. Science fiction undead, like World War Z. And Fantasy undead, where is it magic, or a curse, etc, like Evil Dead.

Guess a skeleton can still vibrate its bones together to make an audible sound. When it's moving with magic, anything is possible.
@@davidmcgill1000 That would be more of a clickity-clackity sound than a hoarse growling sound, but with magic, might as well give it a voice.
A tip: if you ask for directions & they respond positively at all (like saying "Go West") & you keep repeating the question, they'll eventually mark it on your map.
Why does it give me nightmares about Preston?
All npcs have bipolar disorder. One second they're insulting you, the next they mark the location on your map after you change your tone.

It's funny how modern gaming has trained us into thinking as the main character we should basically recieve no penalties for our actions. So when a game punishes you for being a murderer BEYOND just making you pay a minor fine, it comes off as counterintuitive and catches most gamers off guard. XD
@@dantallionmccrews3822 Well here's the thing, after he was banished he went to a town that's extremely far from Daggerfall city and even though he wasn't banished and his first time coming there he was arrested for criminal conspiracy.
Explain how that works, not even in real life does this sort of thing happen. You don't get arrested for simply having a criminal record.
@@thegamerfe8751 yeah, according to our modern justice system generally you won't be arrested without proof of the deeds or plans. But Daggerfall is like medieval society with inhuman and unfair justice system. It doesn't make sense in modern view but in medieval society it is plausible. It is good for roleplay criminal life simulation but the player may not be able to complete main quest. It's harsh I know. And frustating for casual modern players.

Daggerfall is so underrated. It's a very cozy feeling game; the kind of feeling only a game of this age can give you.
and the loot is so random, gloves are so rare i had to become a high ranked knight in order to get gloves better than dwarven XD fun
I was so happy to find out it was on steam now.
I mean, yeah I already had it, but now I can actually measure how much time I spend playing it and Arena compared to the other TES games, which I also have on steam. (Although skyrim's time will never be close to accurate, because I just can't bring myself to play it as much as I did on Xbox, I have yet to complete a steam playthrough, something about it has died for me).
It reminds about M&M 6 the mandate of heaven, the only game in the serie worth playing.

I’d say Daggerfalls soundtrack is far more video gamey, where later ES games have that super ambient orchestral stuff. Personally prefer the later stuff but I see the appeal of Daggerfalls music
Usually I would prefer Daggerfall OST but it's Jeremy Soule himself who did the later soundtracks so I don't really have a choice here
Good news: Daggerfall Unity has a fanmade reorchestration of the Daggerfall themes/soundtrack, which is REALLY good, nice and orchestral and with some bombastic moments in the battle themes.
Not Soule-level (nothing could really top his work really) but better than ESO's active-aggresively THERE soundtrack.
You weren't banished from specific towns. You were banished from the kingdom/region of Daggerfall.
Daggerfall unity looks seriously impressive, even with no mods. I thought it was to old for me to enjoy but I'm gonna consider playing it when I finish my current games.
Yeah it makes it actually playable if you don't have the time to deal with old mechanics. It's really nice to enjoy Daggerfall as when I was a kid.
It is pretty damn fun if you like dungeon crawling, i have put some solid hours in daggerfall unity.
You should. Unity and a dozen mods or so make it on par with Skyrim for me, in a different way. Yes the quests are a bit clunky, and there is a bit of a learning curve to understanding dungeon navigation and time limits and such, but man, from ES II-V Daggerfall takes the cake for unlimited class viability, and once you know how dungeons work you can effectively traverse them (A giant 5-block dungeon should take around 45 minutes if you know how to navigate it). With their mystery and getting lost eliminated, I'd say Daggerfall's dungeons are the most fun in the entire series. You know that fun explorer's itch that gets scratched when you come across a new unknown map marker in Skyrim? That is every single Daggerfall dungeon, and there are thousands of them. Play it dude, you won't regret it.

@@billb.4420 I'll try to keep this as short as I can.
Each dungeon is made of randomly generated blocks. A block is made of 5 to 8 floors, usually. A dungeon is made of 1 to 5 blocks, usually. Each block has a North, South, East, and West side. There are ALWAYS two exits from the block on each side, except for the blocks on the outside edge of the dungeon.
1. Hotkey the map. You will need to use it very often to figure out where you are, and what you haven't explored yet.
2. Clear floors one at a time. Wander around the floor you are on until you find a way down to the floor below. Keep going lower until you are on the bottom floor. DON'T LEAVE THE BLOCK if you can. If you find an exit, don't go through, unless it is a wing that keeps you on your current block.
3. Once you are on the bottom floor, search everything. Every room, every hallway, every exit. Look at your map to make sure you got everything. Then go up to the next floor and search that too.
4. Keep going up until you are finally at the top floor. By now, the block should be completely searched and mapped out. There are a few dungeons where the block has a floor that can only be gotten to from another block, but those are rare. DON'T worry about it, save those til last.
5. Block one is searched. Now find where the exit to block two is, and start from rule number 2.
6. Keep going until all blocks are searched and mapped, or you found the target. You should now have a complete map of the dungeon, making it easy to find your way back to the entrance.
There are a few more advanced things, like teleporters and secret doors, but you'll get the hang of them eventually. Once you know where a hidden door is on a type of block, it will always be there every time that block type is loaded. You just have to find it once and remember where it is.
The other thing is to know how to read the small yellow overmap on the map screen, it tells you how many blocks there are, how many wings there are, which blocks don't have exits on one side, etc. Once you get the hang of it, clearing one block should take you around ten minutes to clear. In a giant 5 block dungeon, that's 50 minutes, and you should never get lost or lose the exit. And that is if you have to search them all; sometimes the quest item is in the first block, meaning you can be in and out in like 5 minutes. This is all a little more effort than a Skyrim dungeon, where you just walk down one long hallway until you wrap around to the beginning. But having to think more about where you are going and your search strategy, is what makes Daggerfall more fun and engaging. This wall of text may make it seem complicated, but it really isn't. Do a couple of two block dungeons with this strategy to get started, you'll see it isn't so bad.
Classic daggerfall, if the enemies dont get you the game itself will.

@@hayato1886 Are you running DFU with mods that add/retexture sprites? It can tend to make them occasionally bug out and be invisible but theyre still interactable if you click on where theyre supposed to be. At least the game takes 20 seconds to close and restart to fix it lol
@@user-qj9ye1uv8g No I haven't had that issue at all with unity. I'm talking about normal Daggerfall. I had that happen with the npc who's supposed to meet you for the Empire side of the main story and a few side quest npcs
@@hayato1886 Makes sense if its the original then lol. Strangely enough I never had that issue or ran into any bugs even on one of the older unpatched versions, but then only after patching it the game or save broke completely which pushed me to unity.

The skeletons never go away. I suffer more jump-scares playing this and arena than I get with any other TES games
IIRC Todd was actually one of the guys responsible for choosing creature sounds and may have been the one who chose the skeleton's scream.
Honestly I love coming across skeletons, theres something that became comforting about hearing that 135db scream and getting into a long fight with them (when youre not op yet). Cant stand scorpions on the other hand just because they look particularily nasty and vomit colored

To sum it up, if you think that all Elder Scrolls games are the same, they're not. They all have their own set strategy you need to follow.
All you gotta do is understand the rhythm of the gameplay, and soon you'll figure out what's the best way to go about it.

Battlespire (if I remember the name right) is one I was interested trying at some point. Apparently you can negotiate with killables, which I remember being intrigued by.
Yep! It's a buggy mess BUT if you can deal with the crashes, it's actually really interesting from a worldbuilding perspective. In just six levels the realms of oblivion arr much more diverse than as portrayed in TES IV: Oblivion, and with the ability to talk to the enemies, you can learn more about the worldview and beliefs of the daedric than in any other game. I doubt most people even realize that clannfear can talk!
Not to mention the Soul Cairn level. The ability to talk to bonemen and mistmen makes ya realize that they're a bunch of undead hippies just wanting to chill for eternity in peace and love. Something not at all evident in Skyrim's piss-poor portrayal of the Cairn.

@@dantallionmccrews3822 That was an unnecessary diss on Oblivion though. In that game you only go to Dagon's real which are those portals and in the DLC you go to Sheogorath's realm. Of course it's not fucking diverse.
@@thegamerfe8751 I don't think you understand. In Battlespire you ALSO go to Dagon's Realm and it is a HELL OF A LOT MORE than just Lava, rocks, and meat towers. Battlespire shows a more diverse, detailed, and interesting realm for Mehrunes Dagon, not to mention giving his servants a voice so you understand the political structure and motivations of Dagon's minions.

@@andrzejwysocki609 I find watching it... nostalgic. Every Daggerfall fan has gone through that stage where we had no idea what we were doing and kept screwing ourself of the character creation screen. Takes me back to that time.
@@dantallionmccrews3822 i did lots of reading up before i made my first DF character, beat the game with him..but navigating the main quest dungeons...that...is another story, the pain! the HORROR!
I hate how difficult it is to join the DB in Daggerfall because you gotta kill so many people. However from a lore standpoint it makes lots of sense.
If you play daggerfall again you really should enable the tooltips mod. It's very useful for many reasons but especially for NPCs. With tooltips the game tells you the name of the person you are going to talk to just by hovering over them, without this you are just wandering around the interior of a building entering dialogue with a bunch of minor NPCs just to find which one you need for your quest.

Being a Haarvenu vampire grants you an ice storm spell with a lowered casting cost. If you have absorb magicka, you will absorb the full cost, not the lowered, effectively replenishing your magicka. Much the same way, AoE destruction spells can be spammed and absorbed at no cost. The shield spell is op, making you effectively invulnerable and also warding off the bad effects of the sun. My vampire guy has 100% enchanted gear with fortify hand to hand - his kick deals the equivalent of 2½ daedric dai-katanas in damage. 100 in all stats, 100+ in all primary and secondary skills. An unliving god amongst men.
How many hours did you have to put in that character?
@@PolyesterMoustache Never thought about that.. I actually played it on my phone through Magic Dosbox. If you know what you're doing, this kind of character is achievable in, idk... 20 hours? Probably played a bit more than that, though. Just checked: with gear he has a total of 339% hand to hand skill, dealing 34-68 dmg. Daedric dai-katana is 15-33 dmg. Also finished Arena on my phone, but I have to admit that that is going to be a one-time thing. Nice to have done, but I won't put myself through it again :)

If you ever want to actually demonstrate that you can walk between towns, Gothway Garden is a town that is just a short walk south by southwest of Privateer's Hold. You can locate it on the map pretty easy without even searching the name.

The shop quality messages are telling you the skill of the merchant, so the opposite of what you said. A highly skilled merchant will give you terrible prices. A bad merchant whose shop is full of rusty junk is more easily convinced to pay you more reasonably.
I wouldn't mind more vids like this, it may not be much but entertaining it definitely is

Ghosts can come in to inns if they are right next to you. I’ve had the misfortune to have that happen multiple times
So, tip for next time, you don't have to get arrested... in fact if you don't get caught up to or hit by the guards there was no crime committed.
Also, there's a minimap mod, it's super worth it.

I've recently gotten a disc for dagger fall recently. It has the 5 main elder Scrolls and all the dlc that they have too. Can't wait when I have time to try out dagger fall and arena. Also dreading it cause I've heard about the diseases and bugged dungeons. It also came with maps of tamriel.
I'd recommend Daggerfall Unity, the vanilla version is just a straight downgrade
