Yes there's that but i think deep down she was really in love with him, but he never trully gave her the love she wanted or deserved because he was always still hooked on that redhead he liked before he was forced to marry Contessina. It's no coincidence he ends up having a kid with another redhead while they are married. And her accepting the child and raising it as her own is a desperate attempt to win his heart. Even though it seemed to work in the end, i think it was always a one sided love story which is very sad and tragic.

I think she should have left with Ezio or hooked up with Marco Bello. Andrea Pazzi and Renaldo Albizzi admired her, I would be gone!

As his mother said, he is 'a difficult man to love'. Funnily enough, that's what the mother of my partner of 7 years said to me the first time I met her. I have a very different perspective on Cosimo and his relationship with Contessina than most, because I have a man at home that reminds me of Cosimo (and a bit of Thomas Shelby). He doesn't communicate with words, but with actions and gestures. He can seem cold and detached, because he doesn't show his feelings to the world or even to the person he loves. He has a brilliant mind and a kind soul that tortures him whenever he does something he thinks is wrong or immoral. He is very centered, with a strong personality and rigid moral compass (Cosimo breaks his a few times and is almost destroyed by it), fiercely loyal (Cosimo gave in to Maddalena out of spite and revenge for his wife because of the Ezio 'flirtation' and the betrayal of his trust with the exile, but after he made up with her never strayed again and I'm sure he was loyal all his married life up until that point) and cannot be manipulated by sex or affection (as annoying as that is, lol). A lesser man than Cossimo would have been turned into a puppy dog by such an intelligent and strong willed woman like Contessina. He appreciates strength of character, loyalty and determination more than anything, and that is so clear in Cosimo, who loves all of these traits in Contessina more than anything else.
Yeah he behaved like a jerk for most of the show but at the end they both understand how much they love each other. He even kisses her hands because he recognizes all that she have done for him. They are perfect for each other, both strong and independent but connected by a strong bond. I love their relationship (and he is handsome)

Of course not, Contessina was of noble birth, intelligent, educated, compassionate, loyal, and knew business and politics like the back of her hand. When Bianca was threatened she hid and took the money if she really loved him she would have waited for Cosimo, Contessina would never have been bullied and Maddalena, when the rumor of the Alibizzi's deaths she turned on Cosimo she told Emilia "do you think you know him better than I do" she was bitter and not very loyal. Contessina was worried about his soul but would never have turned on him. In the end, he realizes that he couldn't have had anyone better or more loyal or loving than Contessina, and all that time he wasted being resentful and hateful. What a waste!

Both Cosimo and Magdalena were fools, and Contessina wasn't going to fight for him she didn't have to he loved her/Contessina whether he admitted it or not.
Cosimo was a strong man. Cold, calculated, shrewd, intelligent, opportunistic, a real leader for his family, he accepted everything his parents threw at him and developed into an even better man and banker/politician than even his parents could have hoped for. The only reason he didn't ever give in to his wife completely was because of his parents and the knowledge that this marriage ruined his dream of ever doing what he wanted and loved who he wanted. He admired, respected, trusted Contessina and cherished her counsel, but he never let himself truly love her because of all his hang ups and frustrations over not having full control of his life. As for Contessina, I can't imagine a better representation of femininity in its truest form for the era she lived in. P.S. I do agree that Contessina had a very important role in what he and his family became.
I just love this song. This is so wonderful. I really like Robb a lot. I was devastated when he died and greywind's head was sewn to his body. But now i know what would have happened to him if he had married Walder Frey's daughter. Its a good series and the ending was great. Finally he understood the value of contessina in his life.

I get the impression that something interfered with a second term for Masters of Florence. 8th episode was so full of untold stories..Lorenzo's unsolved murder..2 New babies in the household..Maddelina's role..Marco Bello's return..Cosimo's attempts to make amends to Contessina for his years of neglect...Pazzi's fate.. Ugos confessing his role in murder...etc . So much left unsaid and so much packed into the final episode. Just looks suspicious to me since The Magnificent got 2 seasons.

The show could have continued by replacing unavailable actors, just as The Crown series about Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Prince Philip did with it’s actors. Grace Turriciano I think he has trouble looking directly into her eyes because he’s worried of what they might reflect back about his own eyes which might reflect his admiration, love and chemistry. Her eyes give away her passion and devotion to him, and their love speaks for itself, even when neither is being too kind to the other. It’s a sadly realistic push and pull. I also think he has always tried to stick to a certain type because of the first woman he fell for, and thought that by doing so he would remain true to that first infatuation or “love”.
It's interesting that following their hurling of hurts at each other and then having passionate sex he was able to look at her with a steady gaze. Even then however he is not able to say a word but we have already learned that his emotions are expressed through action not words and what followed thereafter was a rejection of his mistress. My take on this is that he was desperately looking to find a way to mend a bridge he had set on fire and it was finally dawning on him that Contessina was the best thing he had going for him in his unhappy existence. (a bitter pill for such a prideful man) It also would explain the sadness in his facial expression in that scene.

Then he kisses her then wipes his mouth what kinda shit is that, he acts like a moody and petulant sulky kid. He had an unrealistic view of what his life would be, first he came from a privilege family he enjoyed that money he had no idea what it was like to be poor other than what he saw outside his front door. Bianca was his first love because he was on his own no parents, only a brother and a priest and all three didn't know how to behave. That relationship with Bianca would have soured, it's not easy to be poor when you never have been, his father would never would have accepted Bianca. I think he realizes later in his life and after being married to Contessina that love only gets you so far in life and in marriage, he wasn't able to process that until he could compare the difference. He fell in love with Contessina but still his bitterness towards his parents lingered for a long time, his love for Contessina came because of his admiration for her loyalty, intelligence her compassion and faith and tolerated his parents interference, plus he had to have known that she rode into the Signoria to make a case for her husband and that alone took courage. He held it against her because she had bigger balls, that's what all of this resentment and Maddalena/baby mama amounted to. I still think she should have left with Ezio, now Ezio was a self made man he had a lot to offer.

Things changed in their demeanor..their anger had largely left both of them but l feel that Cosimo's facial expression held regret and sadness but what would it have taken for him to say "Contessina what's done is done and l am so sorry for being such a fool". The positive thing that happened l think however was his acknowledgment to himself that things needed to change between them and that he needed to do his part.

Contessina deserved better. I nearly cried when she didn't leave with Ezio. At the same time, I loved her with Cosimo, and always rooted for them. But as much as I loved them together, it also broke my heart. Number of times I wanted to punch Cosimo - hmm, I've lost count. He doesn't deserve her. Contessina was too awesome, too remarkable. I would say the balance in their relationship was tilted heavily on her side. Just like she said once, he was just a boy with a paper sword. XD I liked him, but... she deserved better. When she met Cosimo she was instantly attracted by his dominance and admired 'his sheer power' and brilliant mind. She gets to know him very well and they work wonderfuly together as the future of the Medici family. He respects her intelligence and flair for business and trusts her completely (he called for her when he thought he was going to be executed, not Lorenzo or Piero, and effectively gave the reins of the family to her). Their personalities match perfectly when it comes to leadership, business and politics. Cosimo doesn't need a meek and easy to manipulate woman, and she needs a man of 'sheer power' and great intelligence to match hers. With Ezio, she would have been treated as a queen most likely, but her personality is better suited to a life of bussines, politics and social power. She would've gotten bored of her peaceful life with Ezio and would have resented him for not being stronger in all aspects. Cosimo, on the other hand, has an obvious intimacy problem, but she knows that if she keeps trying, he will at some point give in to her, which he did. Yes, he treated her badly, yes they had anger and frustration towards each other, and yes, she did deserve more from him, but I doubt she would have wanted anyone else but him.

people tend to view history through their modern eyes, unfortunately. Both Contessina and Cosimo are results of their age and environment. Their relationship is a good representation of what arranged marriages tended to be back then. Him doing everything in his power to provide for and defend his family against any odds, including dying for the good of his family, but resenting the lack of control in choosing how he wants to live, and her being loyal to her husband and family against her desires or wants and taking everything life throwed at her in stride. I personally loved their relationship, he had great respect, admiration and trust towards her, and she was incredibly loyal and forgiving to him.
These two actors act so exellently with their eyes. I wish they had shown more of these two.

He is very centered, with a strong personality and rigid moral compass (Cosimo breaks his a few times and is almost destroyed by it), fiercely loyal (Cosimo gave in to Maddalena out of spite and revenge for his wife because of the Ezio 'flirtation' and the betrayal of his trust with the exile, but after he made up with her never strayed again and I'm sure he was loyal all his married life up until that point) and cannot be manipulated by sex or affection (as annoying as that is, lol). A lesser man than Cossimo would have been turned into a puppy dog by such an intelligent and strong willed woman like Contessina. He appreciates strength of character, loyalty and determination more than anything, and that is so clear in Cosimo, who loves all of these traits in Contessina more than anything else.

Yeah he behaved like a jerk for most of the show but at the end they both understand how much they love each other. He even kisses her hands because he recognizes all that she have done for him. They are perfect for each other, both strong and independent but connected by a strong bond. I love their relationship (and he is handsome)

Of course not, Contessina was of noble birth, intelligent, educated, compassionate, loyal, and knew business and politics like the back of her hand. When Bianca was threatened she hid and took the money if she really loved him she would have waited for Cosimo, Contessina would never have been bullied and Maddalena, when the rumor of the Alibizzi's deaths she turned on Cosimo she told Emilia "do you think you know him better than I do" she was bitter and not very loyal. Contessina was worried about his soul but would never have turned on him. In the end, he realizes that he couldn't have had anyone better or more loyal or loving than Contessina, and all that time he wasted being resentful and hateful. What a waste!

I feel that Cosimo was a strong-willed man, someone very authoritarian and someone who liked to be in control and all this was beneficial for his family and his dynasty since he was the one who turned the Medici family into one of the most powerful families of Europe
but I think these characteristics were also harmful to his marriage with Contessina
As I said before, I feel that Cosimo is someone with a strong will and at times quite domineering and that is why I think he resented his marriage
To accept that Contessina had been a good choice AND that he himself had much more skill as a banker and politician than he ever had as an artist would have been in a way submitting to the will of his father and that kind of thing for a person who has such a dominant personality is something very difficult to accept and in the long run this becomes stubbornness
He obviously desired his wife sexually and he showed it several times like when he kissed her after meeting her or when they had furious sex when Cosimo returned from exile and besides this there are the brief moments in which Cocimo drops his mask of coldness in front of his wife make an incredibly good team both for the political and financial affairs of the family and for their own relationship
I think one of the best scenes they have together is when Cosimo is locked up and Contessina goes to see him, at that moment they both believe that Cosimo is going to die and I think it is precisely because of this fact that he decides to open up a bit with his life partner
it really is a pity, I feel that cosimo spent much of his married life in a constant struggle within himself, on the one hand with a resentment towards his parents for having decided his future and on the other hand his own impulses that prompted him to love his wife and unfortunately this fight between both parties lasted too long

You're right, Bianca DID take the money! They could have had a scene where she throws it back at whomever is offering it but they show her having taken it. To be fair, I do think she was terrified for her safety, but defiance could have been shown.

Maddalena did think she was right to be in his Florence home (scene where Cos and Marco are eating, she walks in, right in front of Marco, places her hands on Cosmo's shoulders, sometimes Contessina has not done). Asking to draw him, then being angry and bitter when Emilia said they will tire of her, she started paying more attention to Marco l Bello.
Contessina was a lady of nobility and knew how to carry herself as such!

Cosimo was a strong man. Cold, calculated, shrewd, intelligent, opportunistic, a real leader for his family, he accepted everything his parents threw at him and developed into an even better man and banker/politician than even his parents could have hoped for. The only reason he didn't ever give in to his wife completely was because of his parents and the knowledge that this marriage ruined his dream of ever doing what he wanted and loved who he wanted. He admired, respected, trusted Contessina and cherished her counsel, but he never let himself truly love her because of all his hang ups and frustrations over not having full control of his life. As for Contessina, I can't imagine a better representation of femininity in its truest form for the era she lived in.
P.S. I do agree that Contessina had a very important role in what he and his family became.

I get the impression that something interfered with a second term for Masters of Florence. 8th episode was so full of untold stories..Lorenzo's unsolved murder..2 New babies in the household..Maddelina's role..Marco Bello's return..Cosimo's attempts to make amends to Contessina for his years of neglect...Pazzi's fate.. Ugos confessing his role in murder...etc . So much left unsaid and so much packed into the final episode. Just looks suspicious to me since The Magnificent got 2 seasons.

Grace Turriciano I think he has trouble looking directly into her eyes because he’s worried of what they might reflect back about his own eyes which might reflect his admiration, love and chemistry. Her eyes give away her passion and devotion to him, and their love speaks for itself, even when neither is being too kind to the other. It’s a sadly realistic push and pull. I also think he has always tried to stick to a certain type because of the first woman he fell for, and thought that by doing so he would remain true to that first infatuation or “love”.
It's interesting that following their hurling of hurts at each other and then having passionate sex he was able to look at her with a steady gaze. Even then however he is not able to say a word but we have already learned that his emotions are expressed through action not words and what followed thereafter was a rejection of his mistress. My take on this is that he was desperately looking to find a way to mend a bridge he had set on fire and it was finally dawning on him that Contessina was the best thing he had going for him in his unhappy existence. (a bitter pill for such a prideful man) It also would explain the sadness in his facial expression in that scene.

Then he kisses her then wipes his mouth what kinda shit is that, he acts like a moody and petulant sulky kid. He had an unrealistic view of what his life would be, first he came from a privilege family he enjoyed that money he had no idea what it was like to be poor other than what he saw outside his front door. Bianca was his first love because he was on his own no parents, only a brother and a priest and all three didn't know how to behave. That relationship with Bianca would have soured, it's not easy to be poor when you never have been, his father would never would have accepted Bianca. I think he realizes later in his life and after being married to Contessina that love only gets you so far in life and in marriage, he wasn't able to process that until he could compare the difference. He fell in love with Contessina but still his bitterness towards his parents lingered for a long time, his love for Contessina came because of his admiration for her loyalty, intelligence her compassion and faith and tolerated his parents interference, plus he had to have known that she rode into the Signoria to make a case for her husband and that alone took courage. He held it against her because she had bigger balls, that's what all of this resentment and Maddalena/baby mama amounted to. I still think she should have left with Ezio, now Ezio was a self made man he had a lot to offer.

Things changed in their demeanor..their anger had largely left both of them but l feel that Cosimo's facial expression held regret and sadness but what would it have taken for him to say "Contessina what's done is done and l am so sorry for being such a fool". But of course.. up came his wall again and he said nothing. The positive thing that happened l think however was his acknowledgment to himself that things needed to change between them and that he needed to do his part.

Contessina deserved better. I nearly cried when she didn't leave with Ezio. At the same time, I loved her with Cosimo, and always rooted for them. But as much as I loved them together, it also broke my heart. Number of times I wanted to punch Cosimo - hmm, I've lost count. He doesn't deserve her. Contessina was too awesome, too remarkable. I would say the balance in their relationship was tilted heavily on her side. Just like she said once, he was just a boy with a paper sword. XD I liked him, but... she deserved better. Even though he acknowledged her - Idk, just wasn't enough, she deserved so much, much better. I wasn't nearly as satisfied as I would have liked during his gratitude moments towards her. She was never a romantic, but a pragmatist with a flair for business. From her conversation with Ezio, we find out that she humiliated him by throwing dirty water(?) on him because his rhymes were bad, which suggests she wasn't impressed with romantic gestures.
When she met Cosimo she was instantly attracted by his dominance and admired 'his sheer power' and brilliant mind. She gets to know him very well and they work wonderfuly together as the future of the Medici family. He respects her intelligence and flair for business and trusts her completely (he called for her when he thought he was going to be executed, not Lorenzo or Piero, and effectively gave the reins of the family to her). Their personalities match perfectly when it comes to leadership, business and politics.
Cosimo doesn't need a meek and easy to manipulate woman, and she needs a man of 'sheer power' and great intelligence to match hers.
With Ezio, she would have been treated as a queen most likely, but her personality is better suited to a life of bussines, politics and social power. She would've gotten bored of her peaceful life with Ezio and would have resented him for not being stronger in all aspects.
Cosimo, on the other hand, has an obvious intimacy problem, but she knows that if she keeps trying, he will at some point give in to her, which he did.
Yes, he treated her badly, yes they had anger and frustration towards each other, and yes, she did deserve more from him, but I doubt she would have wanted anyone else but him.

people tend to view history through their modern eyes, unfortunately. Both Contessina and Cosimo are results of their age and environment. Their relationship is a good representation of what arranged marriages tended to be back then. Him doing everything in his power to provide for and defend his family against any odds, including dying for the good of his family, but resenting the lack of control in choosing how he wants to live, and her being loyal to her husband and family against her desires or wants and taking everything life throwed at her in stride. I personally loved their relationship, he had great respect, admiration and trust towards her, and she was incredibly loyal and forgiving to him.
