Imo this is one of the greatest films of all time. The execution scene brings me to tears. Every. Single. Time. Also, I completely agree with you about this being better than Shawshank (but we're definitely in the minority with that opinion lol). Michael Clarke Duncan was absolutely phenomenal in this. He was robbed of the Oscar that year (I love Michael Caine, but his performance in Cider House Rules doesn't touch Michael Clarke Duncan's in The Green Mile).

The Green Mile is a serial novel written by Stephen King. It is a set of books which followed this whole story. I came across a set at a garage sale and bought them because of this movie. So I knew once you had said Shawshank was your favorite, you would like this one too. Both movies are based off of Stephen King’s stories. And I agree, Michael Clarke Duncan deserved that Oscar. First one I can remember is Neverending Story. I am not going to say more to not spoil anything for anyone, but I will just say I was 10 years old when it came out, and it still kills me today. Another one is this movie. When he says he his tired, and when this huge, 7 feet, 350 pounds+ man, begs not to put that thing over his face, not to be put in the dark. Michael Clark Duncan was amazing in his role, may he rest in peace

It is so hard to watch the parents at the execution. We know John is innocent but they think he is a raping, baby killer. John had a way about him that seemed to soothe people at times( in the movie, idk about the book). I read a comment once that said they thought one of John's reasons for going through with the execution, besides the reasons he gave to Paul, was to give the family closure. The reasons that we heard him give were good enough for me to try to understand him wanting it to be over but I really liked that comment. It gave me a sense of peace that wasn't there before when watching the parents. John obviously tried very hard to save the girls when he found them so it's easy to believe that he could also want the parents to have a sense of closure that they would not get if they knew he was innocent. Wild Bill was already dead. Idk that it would do them any good to learn that they invited the killer to their dinner table.
Also, did you recognize William Sadler (Heywood) from Shawshank?

THANK YOU! 32:13 you’re the first person I’ve seen on RUclips who left this quote in their reaction video; most only leave the line about people being ugly to each other. Btw, I recently found your channel when you posted Hunger Games reactions, so I have to point out that the mother of the two little girls is Katniss and Prim’s mom. Haha. (I assume you recognized the actor who plays their father, because he’s in so many great films, including various Darabont ones like Shawshank Redemption and The Mist.)
I can’t say whether something is better than something else, only which one I personally love more, and while I love Shawshank- I love The Green Mile even more. It’s tied with several other movies as my very favorite. Speaking of my other favorite movies, multiple actors in this are in Saving Private Ryan. If you haven’t seen that, I’ll just give you a hint and point out that it’s extremely popular for RUclips reactions. 😉

I bought the 6 books as they came out, one every month. I kept them until I had them all, then read them. I just reread them last week. It is odd but it is one of the few cases where I prefer the movie.

It was anticipation overload. Book 5 ruined me. Someone stole my copies, but I wasn't mad, I hope they enjoyed them and were as changed by them as I was.

A common field mouse (like Mr Jingles) will live at most 2 years in captivity (12-18 months otherwise). Mr Jingles was 64 years old at the end of the movie.

Also, another amazing film that you would most certainly enjoy I'm sure, is the 1995 Kevin Bacon and Christian Slater powerhouse that is _Murder in the First._ I guarantee you will never forget this film and the acting there in. It's set in 1930s Alcatraz. I would love to see you and or anyone react to this awesome film.

That so great you watched this movie its the best movie ever made I think. It makes you feel every feeling in 3 hours!. It is indeed Oscar worthy, but never got any, just like 'the color purple' and if you watch that you see how it is on the Oscars.. It makes me sad.. But thank you for this one and please think of the color purple to watch to.

I tumbled to the fact that Wild Bill had killed the girls real early, but I think I was the last viewer on Earth to figure out that the guards intended to take John to heal Melinda Moores.
Check out the book; it's definitely worth reading, and you'll see what a fantastic job they did of bringing it to the screen.

This is the 1st time I've thought about this watching a reaction or watching this movie. If he was able to give some extra life to Tom Hanks, it makes so much more sense now when he says that hes tired. It never says so and I've never read the book but does that mean that John coffee could easily be a couple 100 years old?

So back when this came out My family was watching altogether as Friday family movie night after getting movies from Blockbuster(yes, I’m an elder millennial) At the end when John is dying everyone including my father is just ugly crying and sobbing. All of the sudden we all hear this strange loud noise and everyone turns to see one of my younger sisters. She was making this crazy high pitched noise. I began to get angry because I thought she was laughing during this gut punching moment. Then we quickly realized she wasn’t laughing she was hysterically crying uncontrollably. Once we all clocked it for what it was we turned back to the film together and began crying even more😭😭😭
One of the saddest movies we have ever watched.

Shawshank has a happy ending, whereas this one is super bitter sweet ending. I feel that there are actually a surprisingly large amount of people who prefer this one for that very reason, possibly not even knowing the reason.
