Nice video but you may not be aware of one other feature that the SmallRig has. It has a Quick Disconnect (QD) socket to attach straps with like the Black Rapid and others. I use these straps on all my cameras and the QD socket is on almost every lens foot plate as well. Try it out if you are not familiar with them.
I think the small rig looks better on the camera. I’ve been shooting the A7CII for a week. I wouldn’t use the grip. For the 1.8 primes or the kit lens. I’m planning on getting the 70-200 F4. I would probably use a grip with it. Thanks for the review.
I actually took the small rig off today and the camera felt so small and awkward. Definitely at least get the small rig. You won’t be disappointed even with smaller lenses it’s really nice
I used to do that to my other cameras but if you have the new a7c ii/r ulanzi makes a cage that has a plate on the bottom AND a built in l-bracket. It’s way more stream lined and you don’t have to add anything into the cage or buy a second l-bracket.
I have got the 7cr, because that's actually 2 cameras in one! Together with the Sony 24/2.8 and / or the 40/2.5 it is the perfect combo for EDC, a small, light and discreet, yet powerful camera. And for special events i use it with Sony's 20-70 / 4.0 and mount the extension that comes together with the 7cr, looks, feels and handles great, almost like one of the big 7-series.
That is a very solid setup! I wish they would have designed the lens hoods to look a little more aesthetically pleasing. Other than that you can’t go wrong with those or even some compact manual focus lenses.
Oh sorry bro now i understand what you’re asking. I just grabbed my camera to test it, and it does not fit. The plastic piece seems to be just a bit smaller than the slot on the small grip mount that it doesn’t lock in like a glove.
Can you fully open the battery door and remove the battery with the smallrig grip on the camera? Or do you have to remove the smallrig to remove the battery?
You forgot to show that with the Sony grip on, the camera doesn't sit flat when you put it on the table so it falls over whereas with the SmallRig that doesn't happen. anotherreason to go with the SR instead.
I just picked up this model as well and have both a cage from Sirui (amazing cage) and bought a used version of the Sony grip that is very expensive...and you know something, I love the Sony grip!! It's so well made, twice as deep as the cages and extensions, and feels like a part of the camera. I will use the cage for video because of the ARCA Swiss mount for the tripod and other video mouunting but otherwise the sony grip will live on this body. Worth it!
Would it be possible to use the arca swiss on the baseplate to mount to an arca swiss tripod, while having an f38 mounting plate (it's slightly too small for small rig's tripod head) attached to the baseplate? It's about the same size as that square box where it would screw in.
I have both grips and primarily use a G Master 50mm. Honestly, I much prefer the Sony for the heavier lenses. It feels so much more comfortable than the Smallrig. I am happy to have bought both and will use the Smallrig with smaller lenses. The silver looks so good with the silver camera.
This is STRICTLY for a7c mark 2 only. For those using the first version of a7c, the batt door sits further to the front near your pinky finger. This cage will NOT allow the batt door to open fully.
Which grip are you guys going to get?
SmallRig ...... When I eventually get an a7cii
Already got the Smallrig. They have the most accessories an available on the market at the most reasonable price.
Was really hoping someone would do a video comparing these two grips, thank you!
haha cheers bro you are very welcome

I was not aware thank you for mentioning.
Great video !! i needed it.. saying hi from Argentina!!
I've got the smallrig baseplate for the A7IV and it's also very good. Both versions are great products and priced very well.
yeah it’s really good for the money

Just picked up the smallrig half cage and placed an arca plate to make it an L bracket. Seems solid so far.
let’s go dude. are you more video centric?

I found a few comparisons between these grips, and yours was the best. Thanks!
youre very welcome 🙏🏻

Can you store the little hotshoe placeholder piece in the coldshoe of the small rig? Would be a really useful place to keep track of that little piece
yes it stores in the hot shoe location and sits secure via a strong magnet.
@@xhynetuseinovski isn't the piece plastic? I'm talking about the silver plastic piece that sits in the camera hotshoe when ur not using it
Oh sorry bro now i understand what you’re asking. I just grabbed my camera to test it, and it does not fit. The plastic piece seems to be just a bit smaller than the slot on the small grip mount that it doesn’t lock in like a glove.
@@xhynetuseinovski aw that's a shame, appreciate you checking it out akhi, WAS!
great review mate.
if i use tripod plate on sony grip, could i open the battery door without removing the plate?
it depends on the shape and size of your plate but i can open mind just fine.
Great! Just what I was looking for
glad i could help :)
That cheap grip works for me for my monopod actually. Thanks!
you’re welcome 🙏🏻
Nice video comparison 👍 May i check is the silver smallrig grip colour match the a7cii top silvery gold tone colors?
Yes it does. Is like 95% match.
Can you fully open the battery door and remove the battery with the smallrig grip on the camera? Or do you have to remove the smallrig to remove the battery?
Never mind.. your video resolved my question. Very good and detailed video. Thank you and I agree with your conclusions 100%
gotcha bro no worries. thanks for checking it out 🙏🏻
You forgot to show that with the Sony grip on, the camera doesn't sit flat when you put it on the table so it falls over whereas with the SmallRig that doesn't happen. anotherreason to go with the SR instead.
it stands it just depends on the type of lens you have on it. the small rigs tips too if it has a heavy enough lens on it. hope that helps.
Bruh, that's depends on the lens you put on. SmallRig stills tips over with large lenses.

I honestly don’t have that info so i dont want to lead you in the wrong way. All i know is arca swiss compatible. i would email small rig and ask.
@@xhynetuseinovski Ok, thanks for the reply!
Muchas gracias, muy bien explicado, me ayudaste a tomar una decisión, saludos desde Colombia!
me alegro muchas gracias camilo 🙏🏻

spot on. exactly how i use them too
Can the Smallrig grip be attached to the peak design tripod?
it has quarter inch attachment so if the tripod does then yeah
Instructive, Tkank You
if only you could put a small L cold shoe to mount it vertically like the NiceyRig, that would be the best grip.
i wonder if they make an OG A7C one that would fit?
Can you put the sony grip on the metal grip?
no sir
Damn, lol, I was hoping for that extra extra. I ordered a metal one though, thanks for putting this out.
@@grimmjonog6851 lol that made me laugh. Thanks bro. You’ll love the small rig one for sure !
I just need the falcam cage for the a7cII and no need for grip attachment 😫
The cage life i see
True, but just bad ugly aesthetics.
good stuff bro
thanks brotha hope it helped!
Got my A7CR yesterday and yeah the included Sony grip is horrible looking. Just ordered the smallrig baseplate to match the silver aesthetic
You are going to love it bro. Considering selling my sony one.
Thank you!
youre welcome!
SmallRig... looks better , arca S and cheaper...
Thanks
100% agreed
is it work with rs3 mini ??
i’ve never tried it so i’m not sure
