The Final Airbus A380 - The Last Delivery Flight

  • 16 Dec 2021 was a historical and sad day for A380 fans, Airbus has just delivered the last A380 MSN272 to customer Emirates Airline. In total, 251 A380s have been built.
    The new aircraft, registered as A6-EVS, is Emirate's 123rd Airbus A380 superjumbo jet. It is also the final A380 aircraft to join the Emirates’ fleet.
    I visited the brand new A380 in Dubai and interviewed Captain Dwayne Walker who flew it out of the Airbus factory in Hamburg. He spoke about the go-around after takeoff to commemorate the occasion. He also spoke about the future operation of the A380 in Emirates.
    Next, I met up with an engineer Amjad, who showed me all the items the ground engineering team installed while the new airplane arrived in Dubai.
    I will never forget seeing the maiden A380 departure in Toulouse on 27th April 2005. It is hard to believe that the A380 is now saying goodbye to the Airbus factory, just 16 years later. The A380 has touched the lives of so many passengers by setting new standards in terms of flying and travel experience. Wish the new A380 many more happy landings!

    I've never been so personally attached to an aircraft as I am to the A380. Flown on the Emirates A380's over 25 times, some business class, some economy. If it wasn't for the A380 I would not have made it home in time to be with my father before his untimely passing, and it was also the aircraft that took me to where I met my wife for the first time. This is a sad day for Aviation, but my heart will always remain with this aircraft forever. Thank you for your amazing video's Sam.

    • @LetztezBatallion
      @LetztezBatallion 2 года назад +1

      @@talbothattingh9855 It is not tho. It was built waaay too late to be useful for it's intended role, it's incredibly wasteful, and only one airline uses them consistently (and even that is changing with emirates decomissioning their A380s instead of reffiting them). It's interior is luxurious not because of any traits inherent to the plane itself, but thanks to the carrier using it. It was outdated before even coming out, and tech kept leaving it behind, with even airbus abandoning the idea and moving on the A350F and others. It's range is about the same of a 747, and for it's size it's cargo capacity is absolutely laughable, with it being 40 tons behind a 747 (which MTOW is 100 tons less that of a A380) even if you remove all the seats from both planes so you can't even try and convert it into a cargo airplane. The only thing it has above other planes is it's full 2 decks and 100 extra seat capacity (which no carrier could ever truly fill, which is why they are decomissioning this plane everywhere). If that's your thing then the A380 is the greatest plane ever built but if not, well, I can't quite comprehend how anyone would have this level of love for the plane itself.
      Also, trying to equate an A380 to a Rolls Royce is like pimping out a double decker bus and then trying to claim it's a luxury vehicle.

      Nope. The 747 is the Queen of the Skies and always has been since 1969, before Airbus even existed as a company, and today, Boeing is still making the last few 747s. That's a clear win for Boeing. Boeing's engineers knew that a superjumbo would be too sensitive to market conditions, and Airbus' management team allowed itself to walk into that trap that Boeing avoided. Airbus built the A380 to one-up Boeing, a purely ego driven move, and the results are clear. The A380 actually never turned a profit for Airbus. It was never the winner that the 747 has been. Maybe in a more economically stable world, it could have been.

      @@Turboy65 The result is clear overall, Airbus is number one even with the bad commercial performance or the A380. The last 3 years show how Airbus took the control of the market. The A380 was absolutely not a ego launching as you said. There is no ego launching in this market. It was explain many time but during the 90’s analysts thought that the Hub model will be the dominant one in the next 50 years. Meaning 20 big airports will basically concentrate 80 % of the long range flies. Now we know that it’s not the case but it was not clear back then.
      And just by the way I absolutely love the B-747, which I recognise as more emblematic than the A380. But it doesn’t mean Airbus is not in the first position now, even with all the juridical help or the United States.

    • @Turboy65

      @@freewal If Airbus is currently the market leader, be sure that it's because Boeing has been screwing the pooch systematically and with great enthusiasm, led by its beancounter brigade, with support of upper management. Let us both hope that for the the health of the industry that Boeing removes its head from its ass and returns to a state of being generally equal to Airbus in all relevant terms, because competition is good for the breed. Consumers and operators must have a choice, which forces today's loser to regroup, rethink, reset, and win next time.
