- The leaders of Germany, France and Ukraine have called on Russia to pull its troops back from the Ukrainian border. Ukraine's president Volodymr Zelensky proposed a summit that would also include Moscow - which Kyiv fears is preparing an invasion.
The conflict dates back to 2014, when Ukraine's pro-Russian president was ousted in a popular uprising. Moscow-backed separatists occupied the eastern Donbas region - and Russia annexed Crimea. The Kremlin says its recent military buildup is a response to Nato threats and Ukrainian provocations.
More than 14,000 people have died in fighting in eastern Ukraine. Violations of a shaky truce have become increasingly frequent in recent weeks.
Ukraine is gearing itself up for battle.
The country's military is in better shape than it was during the war in 2014, but its fire power is no match for Russia's military might.
The current build-up of troops along the Ukrainian-Russian border has been described by the U.S. and NATO as the largest there since 2014 - a cause of great concern for the Ukrainians.
President Zelensky has appealed to European leaders, to call on Russia to pull its troops back from the Ukrainian border.
Zelensky met Emmanuel Macron in Paris, and Angela Merkel joined by video link. Zelensky proposed a summit that also included Moscow.
But so far Russia has refused calls to pull back, leaving Ukraine fearful of an open invasion.

They achieved so much while Stalin was alive. War only takes place when one entity believes they can win against another entity. That's why there was no world war during the cold war and that's there won't be a world war any time soon. The USSR was too powerful back then and Russia is still too powerful today. Even China is too powerful for the USA.

Russia intervented in the Krim Konflikt not because they want to conquer it.
On the Krim the Population of russian are near 80%(sry not ecxatly sure). After the collaps of the Ukraine coverment a few years ago some crazy times Start in Ukraine. Rightwingers (reallyNaziLikeGuys) became more powerful and it start a Civil war under the ukrainians. Wich ends in a Referendum of the provinzes Krim to yoin the russian confederation. So the people vote for that, u know.
As the conflict was ongoing, Russia surely helped the poeple of the Krim. But thats absolutly the same america is doing all over the world.
When we are honest here, Amerika wants Russia into a conflict no matter what.

Россия стремилась к тому что бы вернуть марионеточного президента и дальше управлять страной, и в процессе присоединить так же как сейчас пытаются присоединить Беларусь, подписывая все возможные договора об интеграции. Но Украинцы не хотят жить так как живут в России. Россия и советский союз это зло: Северная Корея, Осетия , Обхазия, Приднестровье , часть Германии которая была под совецким союзом. This is - in my view - all noise. This is NOT about Donbass. It is to make sure Ukraine will not join NATO. If they joined, Nato forces could be stationed about 400 miles from Moscow, with a completely flat terrain in front of them. No major rivers, no mountains, nothing...this is what is unacceptable to Russia...one does not need to be a military strategist to figure this out. All you need is a map and some common sense....

Russia always seeks to controle as much buffer as possible towards its western flank. Mainly because of the northern European plain, which narrows the more west you go (that means a possible front gets tighter - so more defensible). But also because most of its urban centers are located in the western part of the country.
These facts were true hundreds of years ago and are still relevant today.

Europe (NATO) should not mingle with Ukraine's affair, not even "help". An escalation could easily trigger a domino effect resulted in many countries being involved in a war unwillingly, like WW1 started. Fear should not be the reason to intervene. Hope we learn from that historical lesson.

@Life of Torbjörn The truth is very simple, people in western countries like to live in peace and prosperity. Look at all kind of indexes: happiest people, least crime, best quality of life, etc etc. 8 of the 10 countries are in Europe. Sometimes New Zealand, Singapore or Canada pops up in those lists.
I assume the common Russian wants the same but doesn't have the government that makes that happen, they have a government who only want to spent money on weapon systems and invade other countries.

Look, the west does have it's faults,but life there is a million times better than in Russia and Russian controled states. And at the end of the day, Ukraine is defending itself from an aggression because they want a better life for their children, they don't want their children to be making 400$ a month like your average Russian.

@@Bialy_1 That's a valid argument, but Russia also made a good point that the situation of a state wanting to separate from Ukraine is not included in Budapest Memorandum. Beside, Russia, UK and US have a track record of only fulfilling their promises when it benefits them, so this is not surprising.
Ukraine should pull all their troops back to the barracks and stop this nonsense. And follow minsk agreement.
As an American, Russia has a right to have troops on the border of Ukraine especially since it's there land and they have the right to defend themselves if any Ukrainian aggression happens.
