They’re angry because he popped their bubble. When I look over my father-in-laws Morgan’s he left me, I take delight in knowing he paid a dollar each for them. Lol. He’d go through bank bags looking for gems, the rest he’d take back to the bank. One is a very sweet 1903 S.

@@CoinHELPuBefore I made a comment, I thought I'd read a few comments/replies first. First one I open and you took the thought we both had and put it for the record. I love when those whom do not like a vid, comment on it. Obviously they are ignorant as to how this RUclips thing works. Maybe they think an army of organ grinder type lil monkies are monitoring this space and that's how everything gets connected etc🤷🏻‍♂️ Thanks for the vid D, and for those confused as to what I'm referring to.. when a comment is made on content, the algorithm sends that content out, exponentially. That’s why I commented “boohoo” to the guy because he was crying about how he thought Daniel was profiting off of an old person’s ignorance. Which Daniel wasn’t doing. Some people always think they hold some kind of moral high ground when they don’t.

Very difficult topic to cover, but a must view for everyone. Although I haven't left anything after passing, I have been forced to liquidate my collection to meet unexpected expenses, twice. The shock and pain I faced with the first liquidation was debilitating, and I hadn't fallen for any of the magazine or tv shopping scams. The need for good education cannot be overstated.

In MY humble opinion....a few comments:
    1. If someone IS going to collect coins - Watching your channel IS a MUST.
    2.Education, education, education, education.
    3. Research BEFORE you start collecting ANYTHING....and I mean ANYTHING.
4.Daniel - you ARE the official PSA of coin collecting - PLEASE continue what you ARE doing...PLEASE!
    5. Watching that initial video...made my stomach cringe. I knew..and saw that, that poor collector paid WAY too much for all those sets/pieces. Glad you pointed it ALL out TO OTHER FOLKS.
    Take care and God Bless......

I've told my family about my collection & that I have a spreadsheet showing the year, mint, denomination, approx condition, melt value, approx value, slabs, serial numbers, bullion, & even currency collection. Some may think it is too much info, but I'd rather have them have a better understanding.
My dad thought he had twice the value of what he actually had when he died because of some of the items he bought. At least he understood that he liked the items & wasn't just trying to stack.

I feel for you when you have to break the bad news to the heirs. It is important that people let their family know what they've bought and that the resale value could be as little as pennies on the dollar. I agree that eBay is one of the worst places to use to value coins.

I been collecting more years than you for sure being 72, but I understand and LOVE your educational videos and I learn from each one. In all these yrs I have never fallen for the HSN, Bradford, etc who offer over rated coins for outrageous prices. back in 2012, when silver was way down I did drop a significant amount for a mix of $400 face of Morgans and some Peace Dollars. Most were AU and few BU. But after your videos on cleaned coins I speculate now many ARE cleaned or were cleaned at some point in their history. TY Daniel for all you teach us.

Excellent advice, Daniel. I sold complete collections of modern coins about 5 years ago and put the payments into Bitcoin. Since then, I had the collecting itch and have been buying scarce, errors, etc. that are graded by one of the 3rd party grading companies. Also started a spreadsheet that shows the coin details and the price I paid. It will give my son or daughter a road map for estimated values.

I enjoy reading their magazines just to see what and how much they offer. With the magazine I received coins to look at and possibly buy. $13 for a '71 Eisenhower clad dollar ? $11 for a 2000 Sacagawea? $8 for a common '58 wheatie?
Of course I sent them all back and left a nice note.

Daniel, you conduct yourself in such a way as to be a good example of a rare commitment to higher moral laws. You've somehow learned that one never will feel better by making someone feel worse. It's "obviously" just an aspect of treating people the way you want to be treated. I put "obviously" in quotes because it's only obvious if you think about others and not just yourself. Most people when online become unmoored from restraints that they would feel interacting in person. I don't believe they are usually aware of how they come across when they write something they wouldn't say to someone's face. It's not a lack of morality so much as that they feel protected from any consequences because it is noticeable that others are also getting away with being mean of spirit and with objectifying others.

Daniel my question to you is this, would my heirs get a better price from you for a complete set like this than the coins individually with it in mind that some of the better dates might be “cleaned.” Also would you be reselling as a set in the nice presentation case?

My rule is "send the coin to PCGS" to be graded. I am a collector NOT a dealer because I know my limitations. A friend asked about a 1914D Lincoln cent and I sent it to PCGS. Of course, it was fake and was returned in a death pack. Another friend showed me a 3 legged nickel and I told him "it needs to be graded!". Again, PCGS would not grade because it was fake and his father had paid $900 for the Buffalo Nickel.

These coins and their fancy display are nice looking, the prices are completely out of hand. Especially in the case of someone leaving the coins as inheritance, many family members will see the prices paid and will think that they have something better than what it is. We need more dealers like Daniel who attempt to educate coin buyers. With some research those paying these overpriced coins could easily find a far better priced coin just by looking around to see what a reasonable price is. You can always find a nice display, as well as the coins you want for way less than these greedy companies that prey on the uneducated.

The vast majority of businesses and people of "yesteryear" were honorable. Most people's word or handshake was as good as a contract. We now live in a "buyer beware", a world where it's "distrust so verify"...sad but that's where we are. Cheers! 🤠

I appreciate what you are trying to say. I have one set like this that was given to me by my grandmother. I appreciate the gift and know that she thought it was worth lots of money. However, to me the way it is displayed is actually hard to store. That said, I'll not change the packaging or do anything with it because it reminds me of her. On the other hand I have a buffalo nickel that is on display in my office. It was given to me as a Christmas gift from a coworker. She purchased it from a local coin store and displayed it in a picture frame. I appreciate the thought and care she put into it. The coin is not valuable, but the thought and care she put into the gift is appreciated.

Good video to help educate. Wish you could get the message out to those who are just starting, or have not bought before. They are probably not a subscriber. I made a mistake buying pre 33 gold when I started. Did not know where to research. Bought from ITM and was charged ~20% more than I should have been. Since then I have better knowledge and try to buy slabs back of Greysheet. Keep up the good work.

I agree with you, overpaying is very dangerous, you can lose money paying normal price. A few years ago a normal price for a 2012 silver proof set was 150 and I bought one. Then they went down to 100$ so I bought another one 😂

Ouch! I have NO interest in coins with errors. Too dodgy. I’m seventy and have zero patience with my digital magnifier.
I enjoy making pins using world coins. I give them away but may sell them on Etsy soon. It’s a great way to get $20 for a buffalo nickel. The Mercury dimes are quite nice too. Knowing that they have little numismatic value, I clean them with a vibratory tumbler.

Another interesting and educational video. I have some coins that I bought from the Danbury Mint that I like. I didn't buy them for an investment. I bought them to add to my baseball collection. This I know that I will never get back what I pay for them. The cards that I have bought also may lose values or go up, but that's ok. I bought them to complete the collection and the enjoyment that I get when I viewed them over and over. My coins collection is a different world than my baseball collection. I buy as an investment, and hopefully, It will go up in value that my family will make a little more profit than I pay for. Thanks again, Daniel, for all you do for the hobby and have a great day.

There's a reason these late night coin sellers pick that time to run their high pressure shows. They know who their audience is going to be, and they are professionals at taking advantage of people.
It's a crying shame. I don't know how anyone involved with those programs can sleep at night.

Daniel,I just recently found your channel and subscribed. From what I have watched so far, you are doing a great job. A couple of thoughts struck me as I watched this video. It always amazes me how people who live in a capitalistic society do not understand how it works. I am a "seasoned citizen" and in my circle of people what I hear often is, the coin is 100 years old it has to be worth a fortune. When I am told that,I bring out a roman coin circa 69 AD and a 1972 DD Lincoln penny. Tell them what each is then ask which is worth more. Always they pick the Roman coin.At that moment I educate them on age means little compared to rarity.

I buy the coins I like for me.. The ultimate goal is to give them to my son if the world doesn't collapse. However, he should not care what I paid for them. It's 100% bonus. I'm not looking to "make money" I'm trying to conserve the value of my money for emergency purposes. I know I'm not getting my premiums back (2022/2023 was rough lol)
