  • Past COVID-19 infection provides some immunity but people may still carry and transmit virus (14th Jan)
PHE’s SIREN (SARS-CoV-2 Immunity and Reinfection EvaluatioN
    www.gov.uk/gov...
    www.medrxiv.or...
    Since June, 102 NHS trusts
Regular antibody and PCR testing on 20,787 healthcare workers
Tested positive, 6,614 for COVID-19 upon recruitment.
    Results
Past coronavirus (COVID-19) infection provides some immunity
At least 5 months, antibody protection
People may still carry and transmit the virus.
May still be able carry the virus in their nose and throat
    Therefore risk of transmission
    New COVID-19 infections and antibodies
Nothing to do with vaccine immunity, that’s next
    Naturally acquired immunity
    Provide 83% protection against reinfection
Compared to people who have not had the disease before
Lasts at least for 5 months from first becoming sick
    Ongoing
People infected in the first wave may now be vulnerable to catching it again
    18 June to 24 November
N = 6,614 who had tested positive for antibodies
Detected 44 potential reinfections (2 ‘probable’ and 42 ‘possible’ reinfections)
The 2 ‘probable’ reinfections reported symptoms during the first wave, but were not tested at the time.
The 42 ‘possible’ cases were diagnosed only on antibodies
None of the 44 potential reinfection cases were PCR tested during the first wave,
but all tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies at the point of recruitment to the study.
    So
    Previous infection group
    n = 6,614
    44 infections
    Reinfection rate = 0.66 %
    30% symptomatic
    No previous infection group
    n = 14,173
    318 infections
    Infection rate = 2.24 %
    78% symptomatic
This represents an 83% rate of protection from reinfection
If only the 2 ‘probable’ reinfections were confirmed, the rate would be 99%.
Both patients reported that their symptoms were less severe the second time.
Some protection from becoming ill with COVID-19
Some reinfections carry high levels of virus and could continue to transmit
Everyone continues to follow the rules
    Professor Susan Hopkins
We now know that most of those who have had the virus, and developed antibodies, are protected from reinfection,
but this is not total and we do not yet know how long protection lasts.
Crucially, we believe people may still be able to pass the virus on.
you can be reassured it is highly unlikely you will develop severe infections
but there is still a risk that you could acquire an infection and transmit to others.
Now more than ever it is vital we all stay at home to protect our health service and save lives.
    Prior to VOC202012/01
Current lab work, to what extent antibodies also provide protection from this variant?
Future analysis, impact of VOC202012/01 on symptomatic and asymptomatic infections in healthcare workers.

Spoiler: there is no such thing as contagion, and viruses are not an underlying cause of disease. with 96mg ivermectin for 3 days nobody dies with covid 19 if they are in serious condition. but scientists do not use 120mg ivermectin. they say if people take 120mg ivermectin people must die. but in korea. some people take upto 120mg a day for 21 days straightly to cure the terminal cancer. they did not die. they had some side effects. so upto 96mg nobody dies.. i think scientists used 12mg or 24 mg ivermectin because FDA PERMITS UPTO 24MG A DAY..in your film but off record in korea it is safe upto 96mg a day for 21days straightly.
      covid 19... you must take 12 -24 mg ivermectin 100mg doxycyclin (or 250 argithromycin) 50mg zinc a day..for 7 days.
there are some people who take 96mg -120mg ivermectin a day for 21days to cure the terminal cancer. they have side effects in eyes ..some kind of shining. and 1 person had a paralyse in the backbone. with 120mg ivermectin for 21days . but nobody died.
some people cure the terminal cancer with 48mg ivermectin for 3days and 2400mg albendazol 90ml olive oil curcumins omega3 vitamine for 4days in a week.repeatedly.cancer is similar to covid 19. they cured cancer totally for 6months with this theraphy. ivermectin is a powerful medicine for virus and cancer cells.
but it is off record ..how come? because of money doctors did not prescribe it but they took voluntarily to survive.
4000 iu vitamin d. 15g liposomal vitaminc 100mg zinc. and 3.5mg naltrexon kill covid 19. too.. but ivermectin works well... and you can take those altohether. 12-24mg ivermectin 50mg zinc 100mg doxycyclin in the morning . 4000 iu vitamin d . 15g liposomal vitamin c. 50mg zinc 3.5mg naltrexon .....okokoookkkkok

You are mixing up things a bit. Even on the "placebo" group the "protection rate" is then 97,76% (as 2,24 % got infected). So you should not really underline the 0,66% and claim 99+% protection! The protection rate is 83% as they state in the paper. Furthermore, I am curious about the false positives on antibody testing. There is bound to be some. So I think they are completely right in speculating whether the right number of reinfections was 2 or 44.

More evidence that Covid-19 was in many countries around the world much earlier in 2019 than the outbreak in China.
      Real science. Not hateful conspiracy.
Abstract : There are no robust data on the real onset of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and spread in the prepandemic period worldwide. We investigated the presence of SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain (RBD)-specific antibodies in blood samples of 959 asymptomatic individuals enrolled in a prospective lung cancer screening trial between September 2019 and March 2020 to track the date of onset, frequency, and temporal and geographic variations across the Italian regions. SARS-CoV-2 RBD-specific antibodies were detected in 111 of 959 (11.6%) individuals, starting from September 2019 (14%), with a cluster of positive cases (>30%) in the second week of February 2020 and the highest number (53.2%) in Lombardy. This study shows an unexpected very early circulation of SARS-CoV-2 among asymptomatic individuals in Italy several months before the first patient was identified, and clarifies the onset and spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Finding SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in asymptomatic people before the COVID-19 outbreak in Italy may reshape the history of pandemic.

      It's called hate.

Interesting how a vaccine can provide more immunity than having had the virus.
Many different antibodies produced to respond to different parts of the virus caught naturally , versus more specific, vaccine-induced antibodies reacting to the spike alone.

The BBC reported this as 'immunity lasts 5 months' and then said, almost as an aside, that the study had been ended after 5 months. I thought it was a poor presentation of the study, and could lead many to believe that immunity post-infection only lasts 5 months. I guess no one knows yet how long post-infection immunity (of whatever degree) lasts?

The Phizer and Moderna studies only counted Symptomatic infections. Therefore, if we judge natural immunity by the same standard (70% were asymptomatic), then we are back to 95%. Of course this tells us nothing about the durability of either source of immunity.

US progress on administering the vaccines is right at about a rate of 1 million per day. That’s already reaching the Biden plan to vaccinate 100 million in 100 days. With this study about reinfection being very low, the US is already at about 80 million with the natural immunity. That means we could get to about half the US population reaching immunity within the next 3 months.

There was the study covered here a couple of months ago that collected data from early on through Sept (if I recall) and said the multiplier would be about 7 or 8 (sorry, going off memory here). Assuming testing has improved, we would knock that multiplier down a bit, but certainly by now were above 100 million, if not 125 million+?? Just curious, I'm not a stats expert or scientist, so go easy. I've long felt the same way though as you stated that our total take rate of the vaccines won't have to be all that high with the spread being so out of control.

Well, I most likely had a covid last turn of April, not bad enough to go to a hospital and therefore not being tested. Now I have been having mild pain at the top part of the chest (unlike in April when the pain was at the base of the lungs) for about a week and occasional dry cough. Since I am not really ill, I have not been tested. My point being that I believe it is possible to get reinfected, but the second time it may be so mild that it is not even recognised, especially people who do not have comorbidities like me, and therefore those people can be infectious (which is why I am isolating just in case). Living in a SE in the UK.
