Hi! Thanks for your interest! I don't have a video tutorial, but I do have a written tutorial on my website: www.theresascrochetshop.com/products/pattern-seymour-the-squid-pattern-amigurumi-squid-pattern-crocheted-squid-pattern-crochet-squid-pattern-pdf-crochet-pattern
Thank you! That's a great question. There are a couple different things that will help - when you're crocheting into that first initial chain, insert your hook into 2 loops of the chain (as seen in 0:40 of the video), leaving 1 stitch unworked at the bottom. Another thing that can really help is to use a smaller crochet hook for the oval! And lastly, focus on making those beginning chain stitches as tight as you can. Let me know if you have any other questions!
@@theresascrochetshop I tried doing it the way you said and I was still struggling to get the two loops on the top. So I decided to crochet in the bump on the back of the chains and then on the other side it was easier to find the two loops and now I don’t have the holes in the middle. Thank you so much for helping me. 🐭
Thank you. I just got a new frog pattern (Prince Perry the Frog by Airali Design) I was starting that starts off with an oval shape and it wasn't coming out right. Like nowhere tells you if you go through 1 or 2 loops of the starting chain stitch! They had good pictures but what I was doing wasn't looking like them. The directions sounded straightforward but I hadn't done an oval before. So going back up the other side, you just go through the 1 remaining loop for your SC? I have some trouble with my chain stitches being too tight or too loose and it's hard to spot the next stitch.
Yes, when you go back up the other side, you will work in the remaining loop. If your chain stitches are too tight, it may help to use a yarn needle to "wiggle them" a little looser before inserting your crochet hook.
Aww I love that you want to make one for your brother! Any one of my patterns that is pocket-sized (see my clam or chick video tutorials here on RUclips) would make a fun little pocket pet! For crocheted animals, though, I think you would need to use poly-fil, not poly pellets or rice (as are often used in worry pets?), as they would work their way out through the holes in the yarn stitches.
To make it begin to fold up, you would crochet around the oval without any increase stitches, or with fewer increase stitches for a more gradual increase.
I have struggled with this for so long. This makes perfect sense now
Oh I’m so glad to hear it was helpful, Meghan! Thanks for the comment! 🤗

Thank you it was very informative without being really long exactly what I needed
Awesome! I'm so glad to hear it was helpful. Thanks for the comment!
How many times do you increase as you continue rows?

@@theresascrochetshop Great! Thanks!!
On the squid, do you have a video or instructions on how you sew on the legs? I’m having a hard time getting them to look good.
This is a great tutorial. I tried it and for some reason I get holes down the middle do you know what I am doing wrong? Thanks. 🐭

@@theresascrochetshop I ended up using stitch markers and a smaller hook size to get through that part. So far it seems to be going correctly now :)

If it's a foundation chain we are working in, how are we making sure there are two lines on top when we start making single crochet?
thank you for the tutorial
thank you
Thank-you!❤❤
How do you make it begin to fold up on the sides to make an animal?
To make it begin to fold up, you would crochet around the oval without any increase stitches, or with fewer increase stitches for a more gradual increase.
By making the oval and putting it in the crevice? 🤣
