Word of Caution on the stove: make sure you close the fuel canister cover before you ignite the stove and keep it closed during cooking. It’s also a heat shield that will prevent the fuel canister from the heat of the flame. Awesome recipes and thanks for all the links to everything!
I can’t wait to get started on meals in a jar. I am waiting on my ingredients to arrive, which should be in the next couple of days. Thank you for all the work that you do to show us a better way.
I do love making these but also remember that you will need water to rehydrate them too. I make Pasta e Fagioli except I keep the pasta out. I CAN them up and when I would like one, I take out a Can of it and then add in the pasta as it cooks in the soups broth. YUM!
Thank you for doing all this work to provide us with the many food styles we have. I especially liked the meals for one or two, since it's just me. Your ideas are immensely helpful.
Both versions look really good, even for people with no dietary restriction. Having different ways to change up recipes gives more variety and options. There are many different kind of meals you can make this way, and help prevent food boardom. Thank you for sharing your ideas.
You always have such great ideas for these meals in a jar! I made up uour Wicked Good chili the other day for my pantry. I also madeupa jar of taco soup in a jar.
Thank you so much Jara for doing this awesome video. The low carb version will definitely be something I try as well. I appreciate your channel and all you teach us!!
I don’t like most kale either. However, dinosaur kale which also has some other names that are Italian is quite good. It is what I use when making Tuscan bean and sausage soup. This kale has long, slender wrinkled leaves that are very soft and tender. The leaves are very dark in color. It is also known as Tuscan kale.
Thank you for the keto version, and onions are great. 👍🏻 love cauliflower substitutions and I’ve even used the FD zucchini as a sub for noodles in other things like lasagna soup. ❤
I love watching your channel. Do you have a recipe for Olive Garden Gnocchi soup? Olive Garden is not my favorite place either. I have eaten there four times I think. Only thing I have tried has been soup and salad. I really like the Gnocchi soup and would love to have a copycat recipe.
These aren't homemade, but if you have a freezer dryer, you could do them yourself! Potatoes are one of those things I don't usually find worth the hassle of doing myself. If you do them, I recommend starting with the frozen diced potatoes from the grocery store freezer section. It would cut out a lot of the prep work and probably give better results. These are the ones I use: wickedprepared.thrivelife.com/potato-dices-freeze-dried.html
Hi Jara! Do you ever use Nestle Nido freeze dried whole milk? They are packaged so well but I have some that expired. Any ideas how long they last after the Used By date? Thank you!
🥄 Thank you the interesting miaj today. Question have you ever made a miaj or miab for cottage pie? Excited for Nov sale. Have wanted to get started stocking up on Thrive life. Since will soon have spare income we can't wait. Also to be less grid dependent we have ordered our wood burning stove/furnace. So excited for it's arrival. Also making a metal incubator box for our chickens eggs on top of stove away from direct heat and family pets. Lol. Was Mr wicked able to make any progress on your bug out/vacation vehicle this summer? Thank you
I haven't done a cottage pie yet, but I've got it on my to-do list 😬 I love to hear that you're getting stocked up and getting things situated. Things are so crazy in this world, it just makes sense to have things on hand that we need 😊 Mr. Wicked Prepared has been pretty busy, but he did spend some time working on the Bug Out Van. That's so awesome that you remembered! He has it running great with a new engine he put in, I know he's been working on the brakes and wheel bearings and all kinds of mechanical stuff. He didn't have a whole lot of time to dedicate to it this summer, but he's been chipping away at it! 😊🥰
@wickedprepared I have been thinking about the cottage pie. I can see some of the ingredients being a miaj but the mashed potatoes would imo need to be in a separate jar since it goes on top. Then the cheese for the very top would again need to be in a separate jar. It would be a miaj in a bag since the potatoes and cheese need to be in separate jars imo. Do you have a different idea? Thank you for the information. Thank you
That's exactly how I'm picturing it! 😊 And that is why I sometimes struggle with recipes like that, because I do like to have everything all in one jar. But in certain situations, it's better to keep them separated, exactly like you said 😊
@wickedprepared Could you use a 1 1/2 quart jar and use baggies for the potatoes and cheese? I know they are hard to find since Ball stopped making them, but Azure Standard has them (not sure of the cost).
Technically, I guess you could. But the ingredients wouldn't have nearly as much shelf life as freeze dried. A much better alternative would be to purchase the ingredients. I have a freeze dryer, and I still prefer to buy them already dried lol. I get most of mine here: wickedprepared.thrivelife.com/ and I also include links for all my sources, in the description below each video 😊 Hopefully this helps!
Definitely 😊 This is the video where I made the garlic butter: ruclips.net/video/9hdwV4UZO7s/видео.htmlsi=NxLnobIGtszkdG0o The part you want starts at about 24 minutes in 😊 Also, this is my printable recipe for that as well: sites.google.com/wickedprepared.com/wickedprepared/garlic-butter-spread-miaj?authuser=0
I've scrolled around looking but cannot find if you've mentioned the cost per jar/serving anywhere. I did look up the items and it seems to be about $150 to purchase all the dehydrated items. Guessing you could make approx 8 -10 quarts at a cost of approx $20 each... Please correct me if I'm wrong. Love the recipes but the cost is a bit much even for the convenience of it.
These things are not necessarily “convenience” foods….they are emergency storage foods. Most contain a significant amount or variety of freeze dried food, which are expensive. The idea is to prepare for when you can’t buy the stuff you need.
If you go to my website: sites.google.com/wickedprepared.com/wickedprepared/meal-in-a-jar-recipes?authuser=0 Then find the recipe you'd like, click/tap on it. I bought a heavy cream powder you recommended in a previous video. The directions said to mix and refrigerate overnight, which makes it completely useless for this purpose. But I tried the product both right away and after following the directions, and both ways it was very gritty, wouldn't stay mixed and had an odd flavor. So this makes me wonder about other ingredients and whether these recipes are really a good as you show them to be. I'm not trying to be cynical but this is a way more expensive way of preparing food. Now I'm not sure if I can trust what you recommend anymore.
I'm sorry to hear you feel that way. I do not, and never have, used heavy cream powder in the way you tried using it. I use it in recipes, and recommend it for the recipes I have tested it in. I can sit here and write from my heart and tell you it's great and it works wonderfully in every recipe I've used it in, but if you're beyond trusting me, I'm not going to try and change your mind. However, I think if you look through enough of the comments in these videos and in my Jara's Meals in Jars Facebook Group, you'll find that my recipes tend to get pretty positive reviews. I highly encourage everyone to try these recipes before creating a bunch to fill their pantries. And, to be honest, that would be awfully short-sighted of me to upload videos every single week, recommending recipes, food, and products that I feel people would not enjoy. Does everybody like the same things I like? Nope. But generally speaking, I don't hear or see a whole lot of complaints regarding anything I recommend. I guess what I'm saying is .. you don't have to just take my word for it 😊
people lived without electricity and grocery stores for thousands of years. in year 600AD they somehow managed just fine without buying anything. try that.
