I went to see Marcus for a half day lesson last weekend. Can’t recommend highly enough. Hard to believe how exaggerated the movements felt, but the results were mind blowing. If you can, go and see him, simple as that. Great guy too, as is George.
This is pure gold. There's so much technical nonsense out there about how to shot shape when really it's simply down to how you move your body. Marcus is the best golf instructor out there bar none.
I thought for the 1st 5 mins u were talking directly to me 😂😂😂 Yea, nice 1 Marcus, great explication of body movement mass direction, Im Tring to draw it and at best hitting it straight when I now can see I'm not shifting mass in the right direction because my Finnish doesn't change, another vid that's going into the saved file for out on the practice area ⛳
Conscious thinking- great comment- especially when we have all the “noise” concepts about the wrist angles or internal and external motions and if we are a front or rear post golfer. No wonder we might be compromised in motion and movement!
Marcus, great drill. I don’t think most people realize how much of a shift you must make in order to compress the ball and make your divot in frontt of it. The feeling I have is that I’m shifting quite a bit even though on video I am not, but it’s what I feel I have to do to make a good compressive strike then a divot.
Been watching you coaching for over a year now. Finally made the decision to buy the GRFI system. Would love an in-person training but I am stationed in Korea currently and $$$ is limited.
Great video, one of your best and one of the best golf videos I've ever seen. This is the first time I've ever heard anyone talking about the horizontal movement helping you direct the direction of the swing or golf shot, it makes so much sense! Most swing instruction nowadays says very limited horizontal movement emphasizing being "centered" and rotational, but that involves a lot more practice getting sequencing of tilting and side bending your spine or upper body and to me you have to have more athletic hip mobility to rotate trying to keep your head totally centered and its kind of unnatural and can lead to a reverse pivot especially for a senior casual golfer with less mobility and less desire to practice a whole lot. To me it makes sense to use horizontal forces and momentum as well as vertical and rotational forces. Because golf is a side on swing you will always have some rotation as the club's momentum will to cause you rotate but naturally your body is stronger in the vertical and horizontal directions. I guess if you are not actually taking a baseball stride with your lead foot then any movement within your two feet is not too excessive because even if your head moved 3 inches back and then 6 inches forward the club head travels over 15 feet from address to top of backswing to the finish and your feet don't really move so compared to how much everything is moving, moving your body and head 6 inches forward is really not that much, as long as you can stop your horizontal momentum and convert it to rotational and vertical momentum in balance.
At last I understand what is required to move the ball either way without manipulating the arms or the wrists. I’ve been asking for this information for months, looks like I’m going to have to drag my GRF board out from underneath the bed again 🏌️♂️👍
Hi Marcus, Thanks for another great video. I have seen many of the previous ones and they have indeed improved my game. Can you elaborate a bit on how the weight shift at 3 is to the right front for the draw and to the left front for the fade. You can see the difference in the video, but what exactly happens with the front leg and the weight is not clear to me. Thanks in advance!
Where do you aim the face?? Is it always where you want the ball to end up landing?? Or do I try and have the clubface open for a fade and closing more for a draw???
Marcus great Irish fan wish i could get to you. Was improving greatly with the help of my board. Yesterday i (wont use the word but it begins with an S)100 balls into the ditch on the right confidence wrecked any thoughts i should concentrate on . Please help devastated.☘☘☘☘
Marcus in the transition when on 3 you move to the front foot prior to the arms moving downswing i don't understand how youu can differentiate this movement from either left side or right side linear direction...can you explain that a little as all I feel in this motion is a direction forward. I have a bad across (out to in) divot mark & trying everything i know but without major hand rotation I just am not solving my swing path & I'm hoping that if I can find this downswing linear 'draw' direction of weight pressure i can start solving my swing path problem. At the moment the linear direction just feels forward & not left nor right.
ok makes sense...what about the hands...in an earlier video you talked about the release pattern for a draw with the wrists and hands. It was this video "30 Yard Distance Gain by Switching to a Stronger Golf Grip" posted on Aug 3rd. Does that pattern change for the fade as well as the momentum shift? Thanks Marcus!
Here's a possibly easier way to shape your shots & it's all about the hips but not rotation. Actually it's preventing rotation on the downswing. Set up square as you normally would but close or open your hips depending on the shot shape you want to hit. Don't use your entire body to create the shot & don't drop your trail foot back to swing from the inside. If you do that, it's easy to hit it straight left or right depending on which side you play from. Keeping your hips closed should also make it really difficult to come over the top & hit a slice as well as preventing you from spinning your hips which can also cause a slice as well as a low trajectory. It also helps you stay behind the ball & swinging up without having to think about spine tilt which can be overdone & cause pop-ups. This works with irons as well by keeping you behind the ball & not spinning your hips early. That's a lot of information for such a small set-up tweak I know but the difference it made for me changed my overall ball striking more then I ever imagined. Obviously, this isn't meant for better players but beginners or even more so for high handicappers. Give it a try to see if it works for you but don't quit after a few balls. It will feel odd at set-up so give it a decent chance. It could make all the difference as it did for me. Be well!
thanks Mike 👍 i used to do it on approach shot from 110 in with pretty good result even in the sand. for some eclectically reason i dripped away from it unknowingly. Thank YOU for the reminder 👍
Great videos. Love the channel. Did notice your training aid package was in pounds, I think. Having some interest myself, you should update your site to accommodate your potential us buyers. Thanks for all again.
Generally right for a draw to start the ball right and left for a fade but not always the case. It's very much individual specific to personal preference.
I find it so hard not to load the arms in the backswing and fire with the arms in the downswing when there’s a ball. Everything is fine without a ball, or even with little foam balls. But put a real ball in front and the impulse to hit the ball just takes over. Any tips for overcoming that impulse?
Don't concentrate on the ball. Try looking at a spot on the ground 2'' in front of the ball with your irons and 2-3" behind the ball with your fairways and hybrids. At address, place your driver 4-5" behind the ball, look at a spot between the club head and the ball. Swing the club through those spots. It's a bit scary at first but it will help you swing through the ball instead of swinging at it. Excuse me, Marcus for posting advice on you website!
The hardest part is finding your “trigger move.” Some do a forward press, that worked for me for a little while, then I experimented with different “trigger moves” and found one that worked for me. What I do is start my backswing slowly feeling as if my right hip (right handed golfer) moves back behind me, my torso and shoulders turn while my arms stay in front of my chest. Once my club is parallel to the ground the kinematic sequence takes over and I don’t think about any longer. My only thought is making a full and complete swing and holding my follow through. Cheers.
Another thing that as done wonders for me is to NEVER EVER think about hitting the ball. Only worry about making your intended swing. Once you’ve assess the shot shape you want to make, your starting line, and club, only think about the swing you want to make and commit to it 100%. Every time I think about hitting the ball I screw up. I went from an 11 handicap to a 4 in less than 3 years. Most of this improvement I can attribute directly to Marcus and his Zen style of teaching. I’d love to fly out there and have an in person lesson with him for a few days. Cheers.

Really good straightforward explanation, thank Marcus 👍🏻
Class vid , Marcus, transition explained.
Excellent drill. Definitely something you can take on the course and build into your preshot routine.
Great detailed videos as usual Marcus
Guess what I'm going to be doing at the range tomorrow. Great stuff, Thanks Marcus.
Brilliant, as usual. Is the club release the same for both directions?
Where do you aim the face?? Is it always where you want the ball to end up landing?? Or do I try and have the clubface open for a fade and closing more for a draw???
Brilliant!
Brilliant Marcus tried to book a lesson can’t get on yr website
The link is in the video description

@@GRFGolf cheers thanks👍
Another great video and I agree with Ruud when you get to do it for real it is harder without the "1".. but good job
Imagine youre going to 1 to start the swing
from kuala lumpur- present

Marcus Would you say that when you shift right for the draw, is your weight more towards small toe and fade towards left heal?
Sweet!

The image quality seems a bit off for the last few videos. Your face seems oversaturated.
Big fan of your coaching. Will be booking a lesson soon.

Thanks, it converts to all currency in the basket before completion so you can see how much it is 👍
Where would the club face be pointing in the setup for a draw or fade?
Generally right for a draw to start the ball right and left for a fade but not always the case. It's very much individual specific to personal preference.
This man is god

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I’ll be sure to play around with your ideas.
You never really talk about the grip but do I open and close for the different shots?
It’s all in the feel, if you feel you need to open for a shot or close. Do what your body wants.
Another gem. Hardest part I find is starting without the '1' when you do a real swing. So basically initiating the swing from the start.
Some people start the swing with a slight forward press of the hands. This is the 1.
