Congratulations you made it out of Congress Heights Ward 8, maybe the roughest, toughest and most violent area of the city, at least back in the late 90's all the way to mid 00's when I left the city...
I'm from N Capitol but had a lot of associates who were in the area, almost none I can
think of made it out of that joint and s.e in general alive or arent doing long bids in the Feds....
Haven't been in d.c in almost a decade and most of my folks have moved to Md to escape the madness..
D.c honestly is a lost cause, it's a revolving door of the same sh*t yr after yr decade after decade....
      The youngins are totally lost.

I never lived in DC, but I did work there for about half a year. First....change the culture. I have never met rude, angry, thinking they have to prove something or prove they're a badass....like the people in D.C. Second....raise your children better as a whole. People talk about community? Well it's not a community when only some raise their kids with sense and 80% of the rest don't. Third....vote better. This will effect policing, laws, and inner city by-laws. The root of the problem is literally the people who live there. No "leader" can change anything, until the people change themselves. D.C. was a nasty place to work in, I couldn't imagine living there. Mind you, I worked there over twenty years ago.........and it has ONLY GOTTEN WORSE. Look in the mirror. You don't need more money......more resources....more anything. Change yourselves. Edited to Add : And before anyone says anything about race.......I don't care if you're white, black, yellow, red, or f**king green........if you raise a criminal, you're going to get criminals. Everything.......EVERYTHING...starts at home. Too many people in D.C. are raising criminals wanting to live that thug life, drug life, or the gangster life.......all wanting to hustle, instead of honest work.

I agree with you. Birth control for the young, who cannot parent a baby. There are too many young girls; babies themselves, having babies. I don't live in DC, but Canada. We have the same problem, not at this magnitude, yet. A child has to have a responsible parent to teach them right from wrong. There is no respect for anyone. Kids need activities and education at the beginning. As they get older they can travel parts of the world or their own country and interact with others.

@@drakedutch24 What excuse it's a fact. Show me where they talk about PTSD in our neighborhoods of America show me any article. I was born in 69. Where I lived crime was rampant then. These kids are far worse off than then. They are killings daily in black neighborhoods in every city not just the inner city now. Kids know far more now. They know nothing about anything outside of their neighborhood in the world wars. The war is where they live.

The metro ain’t the problem. They gone find a place to do it regardless. We have got to take a look in the mirror and see wtf is really up.

Let them wear their pants below their asses and let them listen to horrible music and watch violent movies. It’s the culture and parents faults.

Easy fix just ID every single passenger before boarding, and also hire armed enforcement that are actually there. Have someone actively monitor all surveillance cams.

Is the term "Blk on Blk crime " the issue that should be focused on. Or should the violence itself be the main focus?
Also, Dc and Maryland are supposed to be very affluent. If poverty is the cause of crime, why is crime so high in these areas?

The D.C metro area as a whole is one of the most affluent and highly educated regions of the country, but that's the whole entire region which includes D.C proper, and its MD and VA suburbs...
This is the city proper and east of the Anacostia River which includes southeast and northeast d.c are mostly lower income black populated areas(there's middle class black neighborhoods sprinkled in this area as well too).
They're not all run down ghettos in this area, but the area is almost entirely all black, with some really bad neighborhoods in them..
The hard truth to acknowledge is that while entrenched poverty is a big factor for the high incidences of violent crime in these east of the Anacostia River neighborhoods, there's also a deep rooted and embedded gun culture In these areas...
      Having/owning or accessibility to a firearm(s) makes you the man, the bigger the gun the bigger your status is in the hood...{you also most likely need one because everyone around has one so to protect yourself and your block you get one or two}
And you willing to use it only adds to your star.
It's a twisted way of living I know but unless you've lived in those types of areas it's hard to fully comprehend the mindset..
A macho culture where being seen as soft or weak is a license to get preyed on(like in any other urban hoods).
Another elephant in the room is that most of the teens and young adults causing this mayhem were raised by young single moms who had them young and were/are still in the streets themselves so their parenting skills are next to none...
And trying to raise young boys in these types of areas ias single young moms is a crap shoot, even if they're good kids growing up, by the time they hit right about that 11/12 mark once their eyes open up to what the neighborhood has to offer, unless the mom or guardian pulls them out of that environment, more likely than not they'll veer left...
Most of the dads of these kids grew up the same way and are either locked up or pushing up daisies, and their dad's as well!(not all but a good majority this is their story)...
It's a multi generational thing that the hood can't pull themselves out of, young girl gets pregnant for a young dude, he's in the streets, he either gets killed doing what he's doing or locked up for splitting somebody's wig.
Young mother at 16/17 or younger has to raise her child with the help of her own mother and the vicious cycle keeps on unabated.....
