He was clearly on par or better than some HOF players who are arguable, like Curtis Martin, who got in far sooner than Terrell Davis, in my book one of the truly underrated greats due to injury. Most never saw him or have forgotten his Riggins like playoff dominance and the fact that he was for a few years better than Barry Sanders OR Emmitt Smith. If Marshall Faulk’s in, Jackson’s better in my book, because stats are only part of it.
He put in some serious work on some bad teams and that is probably ultimately why he is so overlooked. Imagine him running behind a decent line. During his most productive season rushing (2006 - 1528 yards) he also had 90 for over 800 yards!! Wow! That's a top ten season all time in terms of production. I had no clue
What a stand up guy, really sucks to hear how he feels his career was so underappreciated when he was a Rams player. I still remember how much of a stud this guy was in his prime
Ric Rovey he didn’t he wanted to be the next Eric Dickerson or Marshall Faulk. And he he was, but the team was pretty much terrible after his rookie year, which was the only time he went to the playoffs or won a playoff game during his long and depressing tenure with Bulger’s “Not great” show on turf
During his most productive season rushing (2006 - 1528 yards) he also had 90 for over 800 yards!! Wow! That's a top ten season all time in terms of production
All the people who hate on the Patriots, it's just the opposite for players. They go their and love it. James Harrison, Corey Dillon, Jackson, moss all say the same thing, damn this is what champions do!
Its straight up jealousy... As a pats fan i used to hate the hate but I actually take it like a compliment now. Everybody up here in Mass does actually.
I'm glad you mention Corey Dillon because like Steven Jackson, Corey Dillion was played for a lot of bad teams with the Bengals his first 7 years but was still productive in the NFL but when he got traded to the Pats and still was producing then everyone started noticing he good Corey Dillon was as a player. Corey Dillon retired too soon as he was a borderline Hall of Fame player.
My favorite Patriots hate story was from James Harrison. He said on First Take when he went to the Patriots he wanted, he actively wanted, to hate on Tom Brady but couldn't because Brady was such a standup, humble guy. The lack of pretentiousness in the locker room won over James Harrison. That's why veterans can go there and succeed even if hadn't been in great situations before (Dillon, Seau, Jackson, Johnson, Rodney Harrison etc)
I don't hate on the Patriots. Patriots sucked dick for 40 years prior to Tom Brady's arrival and the MIAMI DOLPHINS owned them. Once he's gone it'll be back to sucking dick again Patriots fans. Enjoy your remarkable run of success. All good things come to an end eventually.
Joe Latu I loved Frank Gore . He was one of my favorite 9ers and I was so sad when he left the team but I hoped it would get him a ring. He’s an amazing player and I feel like enough people don’t recognize that.
The Rams all time leading rusher. Everyone always mentions Dickerson when asked. Jackson put up almost 3,000 yards more than Dickerson, never mind about Faulk and McCutcheon. Mentioning of Stephen Jackson's name in certain NFL circles is never heard. He garnered more than 10,000 yds behind the worst offensive lines in Rams history. He earned them yards without any help from teammates. So underrated and under appreciated in NFL Talk Show Circles.
I have to say he is one of the least talked about player, but one of the hardest running guys. He truly was a beast. I always thought why can't my Colts get guys like this.
This video demonstrates the multi-layered genius and all around solid man that Bill Belichick is. Giving a guy he felt deserved better a chance to shine while simultaneously making a point to the team AND giving them something more to fight for. The fact that Steven's new team mates would want to speaks volumes to their character.
There's no way I think of Gurley before Jackson as a rams fan. Jackson is one of my favorite RB of all time. I appreciated him as a Rams fan and he deserves way more recognition
One of my favorite running backs of all time even though I'm a Rams fan. Big and powerful and fast and that dude could catch balls. That guy had scrimmage yards like a motherfuker every year. Certainly one of the Forgotten best running backs of all time.
So glad for him that Belichick as usual was aware and brought him in, at least a good sample of what might’ve been. Watching him, it was clear that his legs were shot but he did what was needed in terms of short yards and blocking. Too bad it was the rare year they didn’t get further, but again at least he had a taste.
Shit the main reason they pulled it out is cause of Brandon Jacob's 4th and 1 conversion. They had Ahmad Bradshaw and jacobs but most giants fans dont know that. They're mostly bums who remember ending Pat's undefeated run but dont know their team lmao
I was a St. Louis Rams fan (not anymore since they left us). It saddens me to hear what he has to say about his time here in St. Louis. I absolutely loved him. So many of us loved him. He was the only light we had on our team of heaping garbage. I always enjoyed watching him play. He was my favorite player of his era.
I get that. I think Belichick really wanted to get Jackon a ring though. Bill is a dedicated NFL historian and I think he thought Jackson was a historical talent.
This guy just made me realize how much of a spoiled Patriots fan I truly am! Dude gives off such a great vibe! These young players need someone like him to look up to!
damn, you just want to send good energy to a guy like this man. I always knew he was great, he always killed my redskins. And he was always my RB in madden for my fantasy teams lol
Steven Jackson is right up there with some of the best running backs. He just had the misfortune of being on a lot of bad Rams teams so his career gets overshadowed in a lot of ways.
Jackson was a great player that will unfortunately be mostly forgotten because he was sandwiched between the Greatest Show on Earth era and this new Goff/Gurley era. Hindsight being 20/20, if New England would have settled for field goals instead of going for 4th downs in that '16 AFC Championship game that last drive would have been for the winning field goal instead of needing a TD and 2 point conversion for the tie.
Jackson is one of the few players I legit feel bad for. Despite being the all time leading rushing for the Rams, there are fans don't even consider him as a top 3 running back for the franchise and with the sudden rise of the Rams now, Gurley is viewed more favorably than Jackson. Sucks man.
Imagine seeing him coming downhill at you with a head of steam! He was as good of a back as you could expect on a team that never broke 500. Always consistently a tough guy who punished the defense. Hated seeing him go up against my Seahawks, they always played us like it was their Super Bowl during those years.
My brother and I had a fantasy draft in Madden one year, I think it was the years they had Marshall Faulk and Steven Jackson, so he was still young and not in his prime yet. I drafted him and he was pretty unhappy on my team and wanted a trade. So I ended up trading him (in division) to my brother. That ended up being a HUGE mistake and he gave me big problems every time we played. Ever since then we both love this guy! Brings back good memories.
He is also a really nice guy in real life. I go to school with his son, and have talked to him a few times, and has also said all those things in person
As a Rams fan, it was an honor to watch him play, but as a fan of Steven himself, I wish he could have been traded to a better team at least five years earlier. This man could have been and should have been a first round Hall of Fame’er. Instead he’ll just be the Rams leading rusher until someone passes him up in a few years.
I’m a rams fan and it’s common sense that he’s our leading rusher all the other top guys left and Marshall was a colt before so yeah if u didn’t know that you started watching like last year
Steven Jackson as a real Rams fan I appreciate my years watching you! Hand the ball to SJ39 in the 10 yard line and watch him reach, jump, juke or flat ass run you over to get the TD!!
Stephen Jackson truly was one of the best backs in the game while he played. He was consistent, started every game he physically was able to and performed valiantly considering the absolute dreadful rams teams he was on. He was on such bad teams in his prime that almost every game, the opposing defense just put 8-9 in the box to stop him because the rams so badly lacked a functional offense. Despite this he STILL got a dime in yards 8 straight years!!! That's what the fanboys of today don't understand! If he had an even OK QB He would have had mvp type seasons
Steven Jackson is one of the most underrated players in nfl history. I think he’s a hall of Famer.
Truuuuuu
The rams were bad almost the entire time let’s not forget that. He is absolutely a HOF
He has the greatest mixture of abilities any running back ever in the history of the NFL. I say that with confidence.

@Connie B Whats wrong with Black hair?
He was a beast
@@Thehawkdown99 I thank dey Jus meant He looks betta witta haircut dats all
@Connie B locks not braids
That dude was so underrated. 8 straight season with 1,000 rushing yards. Consistent beast.
Brodha Sattva without a offensive line
And facing 8 and 9 in the box the whole time because our offense had no other threats
During his most productive season rushing (2006 - 1528 yards) he also had 90 for over 800 yards!! Wow! That's a top ten season all time in terms of production
Steve Jackson deserves to air out his feelings like this. He really did give his all carrying those garbage Rams teams for all those years.
Would have loved to have him with the Patriots in his prime,, this man was a beast m,,,respect
I still look at Stephen Jackson as one of the best. People who really know football know how good he was
Facts. His consistently high level of play is extremely overlooked, he was a top 3 RB for damn near a decade.
Steven*
What a great man and great player highly underrated thanks for the short time you spent with us patriots
this dude was a concrete block with a motor!!!
6’1” 240, this man was a monster. With the dreads he legit looked like the Predator was on the field.
Edit: height was incorrect
Justin Sullivan 6’1
Makes me think of mike alstot
Love this interview! Steven was so underrated as a player... Wish he could have ended his career on a higher note with the Pats.
All the people who hate on the Patriots, it's just the opposite for players. They go their and love it. James Harrison, Corey Dillon, Jackson, moss all say the same thing, damn this is what champions do!

Most Patriot detractors have a problem with the Patriot fandom, and the Boston Media mostly...
Superbowl = The annual New England Patriots invitational
Sadly lol
My man LMAO
Jon Smith apart from 2011, 2012 2013 when they weren’t in it
That's gotten old.
Him and frank gore carried some shitty teams. He was a beast no doubt in the early mid 2000s. Niners couldn’t stop him
Joe Latu Gore is a goddamned robot.
Joe Latu I loved Frank Gore . He was one of my favorite 9ers and I was so sad when he left the team but I hoped it would get him a ring. He’s an amazing player and I feel like enough people don’t recognize that.
Stephen Jackson is a classy guy.
As a Rams fan I'm grateful for those 9 years .
One of my favorite players ever. Strong, smart, versatile...if only he could have started with the Pats, he'd have four or five rings of his own.
He was my favorite player when I started watching football,, much love for hin
This guy was a badass. I remember big number 39 with dreads, they always sucked when he was there. He looks good without the dreads!

Best RB in RAMS history hands down

Rams Fan here and I just want to say I loved watching Steven Jackson on Sundays. We haven’t forgotten about you!
Steven Jackson was a Stud for the St. Louis Rams, we appreciated you Bro.
My first ever fantasy football draft pick !!! God bless u Steven!!

As a Giants fan and after we won the 2007 SB, i was screaming for us to get Steven Jackson. he was holding out.
Shit the main reason they pulled it out is cause of Brandon Jacob's 4th and 1 conversion. They had Ahmad Bradshaw and jacobs but most giants fans dont know that. They're mostly bums who remember ending Pat's undefeated run but dont know their team lmao
Im not upset. But when he said Jackson played for only 2 teams it really hurt my feelings 😔 ATL all the way ❤🖤

In his prime jackson was a top 10 nfl back ever beast power with nimble feet
Easily the most underrated player of the 2000s. Had the rams not been so terrible during his tenure he'd be in canton right now
Steven Jackson is right up there with some of the best running backs. He just had the misfortune of being on a lot of bad Rams teams so his career gets overshadowed in a lot of ways.

The line was in shambles when he got to New England. He didn’t look good but it wasn’t his fault.
This guy has had such a bad break that he came to the Pats the one year they fell apart since 2014... Dude has some bad luck lol
I miss watching Steven Jackson running over defenders breaking tackles.
Dude was always on my fantasy team!
My favorite player of all time. Go St. Louis, the only NFL jersey I own
I am not a Rams fan. BUT I would play with the Rams on Madden just to run with this man. Lol 😂
Jackson is one of the few players I legit feel bad for. Despite being the all time leading rushing for the Rams, there are fans don't even consider him as a top 3 running back for the franchise and with the sudden rise of the Rams now, Gurley is viewed more favorably than Jackson. Sucks man.
All these years later. I remember him playing for the OSU Beavers and thinking wow this guy is gonna be great.

As a real rams fan, we love Steven! #39

Very underrated RB. HOF in my book.
Monster running back. Seems like a good dude too.
The Patriots once upon a time, in free agency, picked up Corey Dillon (RB), Fred Taylor (RB), and Steven Jackson (RB).
I had classes with action jackson. great classy man.
39 forever A ram
Todd Gurley never even touched what level of talent this dude possessed
I mean he could’ve left the rams for a contender if he really wanted to. Still a great player and I would’ve liked to see him win a championship
I still wear my Jackson jersey.
Anyone that had SJ on their fantasy team knew this guy was BALLIN outta control every week
Dude is huge
That is the exact words his woman says to everyone at the beauty shop!!!

Justin Nardine underrated for sure!

Jackson was truly underated !!! And I'm a NINNERS FAN !!!
Jackson is the man though
He better get in the Hall, he _was_ the Rams offense.
