The nuggets typically have AG cut from the corner on similar actions, but the Mavs guys are glued. Reminds me of Doc Rivers’ Sixers against Boston last year when they’d send paint help to the PnR.

It’s no coincidence that the Clippers were at there worst because Russ was out. His impact on this particular team is much bigger than the box score. His effort and intensity gives this meandering Clippers team some real fire and personality that helps fuel the other players on the court. That is incredibly valuable.

The difference with harden in philly is that harden gave them two wins singlehandedly as the 2nd best player. But embiid gave them nothing.
If anything 2 games from your 2nd best player is already a major contribution.
The reason harden struggled the later games is simply cause doc rivers refused to remove pj tucker off the game and philly was forced to play 4v5 on offense. 3v5 since embiid was choking as well.

You also use a circular logic when talking about the Lakers free throw disparity which is clear. You say “they are the best at getting to the free throw line and the best at not fouling” BUT THAT IS COMPLETELY DEPENDENT ON THE REFS. It’s not hard to see the league is helping them with these calls.
They get ticky-tac calls that no other team gets. You have even admitted to the flopping from AD, reaves and DLO. He was great yesterday and Paul George couldn’t do shit with PJ guarding him. Mavs lost this game in the first half specifically 2nd quarter and won the rest of the game. Game 1 is literally game 1. Kawhi also slows the game down more and doesn’t just dribble and blow by. Teams make adjustments and when Mavs did some in the 2nd they played better than the clips did. Even if this was a blowout on the Mavs part i would never think that’s how the rest of the series is gonna go. One big factor i dont think you factored with Klay is the coverages he see's. He doesnt have the luxury that guys like Duncan or Grayson Allen or other shooters has. He is still guarded as a second option... and when they tried to have him in a lesser role.. GSW offense couldnt sustain it due to their need to have him pull multiple defenders coming off screens. He doesnt get nearly as many open looks as the other shooters around the league.
I’ve been saying for a few weeks that people are jumping the gun with the Mavs and that they will lose to the Clippers. I want Dallas to win, but they’re not going to and I never thought they would. With Kawhi coming back I wouldn’t be surprised if the Clippers win this series pretty easily. This game was over right from the start.

Jason I really enjoy your talk about the technical aspects of basketball. One the other hand I think some at the V needs to tutor you more on effective arguing using statistics. You need more context. Free throw differential per game is a nice place to start, but it doesn’t have enough context as to why it’s not remarkable. You need median and mode as well. Also you need more context like FT differential in wins vs losses. Probably the main reason this is an issue is to how much it seems to impact games and records.
Examples
12 game wins by 5 points or less with FT diferential greater than twice the end score difference.
The lakers are 27th with 39.4 drives a game and 11th with 7 FTA a game from those drives. The 2018-2019 Hornets were 4th with 51.4 drives a game and 2nd with 7.8 FTA a game from those drives. The difference in rank between drives and FTA from drives is the largest in the past decade.
I do agree that you got to suck it up when the game is being played, but you can’t be blind to blatant examples of favoritism seen above. Also let’s be honest the Lakers current style of basketball is horrendous to watch.

If you can prove its normal for the team in first place to have a 3, 4 , 5 times higher disparity than second place, then youve proved something. How much points would Kevin Durant score if he shoots 30 shots a game ? How many assists would he have if he would hold the ball all game ? Donovan Mitchell ,Jamal Murray . Kyrie Irving and etc ? Just wanted to add that showing the "FT differential leaders over the years" as a barometer is misleading since the league has noticeably called fouls differently year to year. Even this year, Lakers could have grifted a higher differential if there wasn't a conscious effort to put the whistle away after the all star break this year. Once LeBron is off the Lakers, their FT differential will come back down to Earth. Also, funnily enough, admitting that the Lakers' starting lineup is full of foul grifters kinda admits that they get more calls than they realistically should.

D'lo and AD are having the same amount of freethrows they've always had regardless of team with comparable volumes year to year. The odd one out is Austin Reeves but he models his game after James harden. Lebron doesn't get a ton of freethrows nor calls either. For as much as people say he flops, he doesn't get freethrows nor calls. I don't know the numbers now but when butler dame james and porzingus all had around 210 games played, they all had more foul calls than Lebron since hes been on the lakers... not freethrows, foul calls. I feel like the Clippers are more talented, but older team. The longer the series goes, the higher the chance something collapses on Clippers side - injuries, old guys getting tired, Westbrook falling back into his bull-in-a-china mode etc. Dallas really needs to put way more pressure in game 2, to at least tire the opponents. Effort in game 1 was atrocious.

Don’t get too excited, Clippers fans. And no, I’m not a Clippers fan since 2019. We won Game 1 from last year too. We lost Game 2. Then Kawhi was out for the rest of the playoffs and Suns ended us in 5. We were up 2-0 in 2013 and 2016 only to lose the next four. We blew 3-1 leads twice since 2015. Thanks, Doc. They’re still the Clippers until proven otherwise.
Considering Paul George, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook have never won rings and are known as playoff chokers, maybe all three need to come together and prove everyone wrong. This year could be it for them. It’s now or never. Another year, they will only get worse and older. This is their Last Dance.
It’s only one game. It’s a best of 7. Not a best of 1. Let’s say we dispatch Dallas. We need to start every series on the road after that. We can never get too ahead of ourselves. It would be a great story if PG, JH, and RW finally won a ring this year. Without Kawhi, we have a shot against every team except Denver. PG and JH can combine for 50+ points if Kawhi is out.

Dallas was just flat Luca was passing when he should’ve shot and shooting when he should’ve pass. Didn’t see Luca or Kyrie uncomfortable but Clippers are better with Leonard Harden can’t save you 4 full games.

A player that models his game after one of the biggest foul hunters in NBA history is drawing fouls is not surprising. Nobody's freethrow numbers took a big jump.

I wouldnt put them that low but I can think of good reasons to put them around that range. Playoff harden and injuries to their star players which is happening right now. They abused Luka in the pick&roll every time harden got switched on to Luka he scored. Most top NBA players that win championships are unreal offensive and defensive players. Lebron , Jordan, Kobe wade, duncan, garnet, shaq, giannis hakeem, ect. And the not good defensive superstars have all defensive players surrounding them. Even if the mavs get past this series which I think could happen realistically, they will run into a team that they legit have no chance of defending. Denver/Boston, healthy bucks. Yes it’s an offensive league but Dallas has traffic cones on defence 50% of the time.
