How to Spell - Adding suffixes - Important Rules

How to spell the words when suffixes are added? Do you follow the same spelling rules for all the suffixes? In this video, I will precisely answer these two questions with lots of examples.

Suffixes are morphemes (the smallest meaningful part that cannot be further divided) that are added at the end of the words. Adding suffixes to the words results in the formation of new words.
Example: adapt + able = adaptable, red + ish = reddish, marvel + ous = marvellous
Notice in the above examples, 'able' is directly added to the word 'adapt' to form 'adaptable'. But, for 'ish', the consonant 'd' is doubled to form 'reddish'. But, what about 'blackish' (black + ish = blackish)?
Here, we have simply added 'ish' to the word 'black' without doubling the consonant 'k'. And, for the last word, we have doubled 'l' to form the new word 'marvellous'.
These variations in English spelling require the need to understand the spelling rules while adding suffixes to words. This is what I am going to discuss in this video - how to spell new words by adding suffixes. And, if you are still wondering about the explanation for 'reddish' and 'blackish', please pay special attention to Rule VII and Rule I in the video.

In the first section, we discuss the spelling rules while using the suffixes that begin with vowels; while in the second section, we discuss rules of spelling for suffixes that begin with consonants. There are nine and five rules in the first and second sections respectively that will build your foundations in English spelling.
