Really well done, and thanks for taking the time to interview and highlight something that means a lot to me. Best of luck, and let me know if I can help at all
I've been watching competitive smash since mid 2015, and I've never seen a better rivalry. It was insane to see these 2 go from "oh I think I heard of them a couple of times" to absolutely running the game. Seeing them leave an undeniable mark on the 2 most played characters of a game with such history
I have to admit, even though i always want Hbox to win and i'm really happy whenever Amsa is playing (and winning), i can't hate either Zain nor Cody, both players play OUT OF THEIR MINDS. Not disrespect to Armada, but 2018 Melee seems aeons ago compared to 2024 Melee, there are no more bad players, everyone you play in pools is a possible hidden boss.
It is crazy cause at one point I remember Cody was thinking about switching to Sheik to play against Zain. I think winning a few tournaments and also seeing Mango beat Zain twice on FD at Summit made him decide to stick with Fox. Crazy how the tables have turned- now it seems like Zain has a mental block against Cody!
I get what you're saying in the intro there but I would much rather see the cowboys for the next 10 years curbstomp the NFC East, go undefeated, and win every super bowl 60-0 than have a bunch of nail bitter games. It's all about dominating your foe lol
met cody in a long ass line at walmart in virginia last year. didn’t even realize it was him until like halfway into our conversation. super nice dude.
Finally someone acknwloedgeds zains dominance over cody, its why im so happy to see cody able to overtake him because for a good while it seemed impossible
I always though that mang0s win against Zain on Summit 11 helped Cody mentally to do well vs Zain, mang0 shows that Fox can beat Zains Marth especially on FD
And to think he almost picked up Sheik for Marth. Then at Genesis X Leffen’s Sheik lost to Zain yet Cody’s Fox beats him. I agree with the other commenter that Mango’s win at Summit probably had something to do with restoring his faith in Fox
And to think we didn’t get to see this matchup at Genesis X! Awesome video also congrats to Cody for starting off strong this year with a great victory, and to Zain for starting off decently as well with a a respectable 3rd place.
Thank you for making a doc on this cool era/part of modern melee, it's truly crazy just how close these 2 are and how much they push each other, u captured that rly well!! :^D
Zains drum solo was so sick! Great job on this vid. That hot dog eating contest line and the chuckle after it is one of the funniest things ive heard on melee youtube in a while lmaoo
17:45 little known fun fact but SFAT beat Zain on FD Zain lost on FD before Summit 11, but he had a 3 year streak of not losing there. And losing twice is what made Mango’s run insane. So yeah Cody PICKING FD and then winning.. as surreal as boolmaster puts it
Genesis X was the highest level this game has ever been played. Falchion vs Metal Legs honed like iron sharpening iron. Cody and Zain commanded dominance over an entire community, nothing standing in their way. Well, almost nothing. ♥️🦖
It's really cool how you'll never truly know who'll be at the top one day. Those people in the venue watching Cody and Zain face off for the first time probably had no idea they'd be the gods of today. Just like it's always been. An up and coming Mang0 upsets Ken, and up and coming M2K upsets Ken prior and basically wrote the book of Melee, and an up and coming Ken trash talks online in 2003 but backs it up becoming the first king of Smash. All held within venues or garages, game stores or school auditoriums...we just never knew we were looking at history in the making. A beautiful legacy this game and the other Smash games hold.
This idea is the exact reason I love the Hungrybox story. And so often he would win from losers bracket; where any loss could mean the end of his run. I love nothing more than watching someone fight through losers brackets and Hungrybox was someone who was known for it for some time.
I mean it is a rivalry, but probably one of the least healthy melee has ever had. Cody vs Zain is something thats been played/shown 20000 times now because all they do is play one another. Great vid tho brotha
Bool your storytelling of melee is and remains magical, I'd been waiting for this and I'm so happy it's here now ! I'll always be a Zain supporter because his marth gives me wonder like no other player but man Cody is good Hope we also get to see more Jmook this year, love the trio dynamic
i started watching this and i was like "this editing sees familair..." and i look at my suggested and the first video i see was your summit 11 video, your work is incredible keep it up
cody my goat. as someone whos watched more cody gameplay than any human prob should have, especially in the era where zain was wiping the floor with him, its been fantastic to see him on top of everything this last year
When I was making this doc, I felt like having just cody’s pov would be better for the sake of the narrative. I wanted it to HIS story. If I could do it over again though I def would’ve done a Zain interview as well. Next time!
Awesome doc, love how it was edited with the little montages synced with the music and how it doesn't feel like cody propaganda, they both are amazing players that helped eachother get to the top
I still remember seeing them face off in losers at Battle of BC 5. Cody was my pick for who I wanted to win the event and Zain was my pick for who I thought would win. Then the game 4 looked bleak. Cody down by 2 stocks and down 1-2, it looked like an easy Zain win... Then Cody pulled off one of the best comebacks I've ever seen. I'm not gonna lie, I fucking hate Melee as a game and the playerbase is often insufferable, but the rivalries are top notch and I'll never deny how phenomenal these players are
Funny story about 2018, while you use it as an example of a year where "nobody would debate who's number 1", I think you actually could debate that year...at least a bit. Armada lives in Europe, can't travel to a lot of tournaments, but whenever he did show up in 2018 he usually beat Hbox. Eliminates Hbox at EVO. Eliminates Hbox from Summit 6. Double eliminates Hbox at Smash 'n Splash. Knocks Hbox to losers at Super Smash Con. Never faces Hbox at Genesis (Gets knocked out very early by Armada standards--4th). And loses to Hbox at Low Tier City 6. So...overall Armada had like a 5-1 record over Hbox for the year. Don't get me wrong, there's two perfectly reasonable counterarguments. One is that Armada should have attended more tournaments, and that's totally fair. The official rankings tend to deliberately punish low attendance, and like...that's the incentive we all want--we all want to see more of our favourite player. Another is to argue that, yeah, maybe Hbox loses head-to-head to Armada, but he beats other players harder than Armada beats other players in 2018. And that's...probably true? Armada has a couple of 2nd place losses to non-Hbox opponents (lost in grand finals to Leffen at EVO. Lost in grand finals to M2K at Summit). Maybe Hbox wins those.
Great video, the interview added some info that made it feel worthwhile even if you've watched the sets before, and I loved the editing (during the FT10 especially!)
Big brother? You still have that trash? We are in 2000 again? We're is Malcolm in the Middle? One sesson is not enough to realised how bad it is, live is short don't waste time doing stupid things.
I don't like cody because of his cheating, so I wanna see him lose to zain, but it isn't looking good. I guess that is what makes an exciting rivalry tho.
He's also the first number 1 that is not sponsored by any e-sports team right? maybe not because in the ken era there were no sponsors i guess Also, this looks super cool 26:15
Your gameplay edits are top notch, Samox-esque if I may. I think your scripting and story-telling could use a little work. There are so many juicy details to this rivalry, and so much context behind the two. Great work!
Really well done, and thanks for taking the time to interview and highlight something that means a lot to me. Best of luck, and let me know if I can help at all
No, THANK YOU BRO! It was honestly my pleasure. Keep doing what you do, I’ll make a million of these docs
it's not an enjoyable rivalry if one of the players openly made love to their mother
LOL
cody's real rival is his mom LOL
Zains always been Cody’s main rival. You don’t play 12,000 sets against someone live if you’re not dedicated to beating them.
Real number?
Yeah something like that, they showed their slippi stats at the end of the year
Always? No. In the last two years, yes.
Unless you’re from a small scene 🙃
I've been watching competitive smash since mid 2015, and I've never seen a better rivalry. It was insane to see these 2 go from "oh I think I heard of them a couple of times" to absolutely running the game. Seeing them leave an undeniable mark on the 2 most played characters of a game with such history
that was literally my dynamic lol.
awesome video :D
loved the music choices and how you let the gameplay speak for itself most of the time
thank you!
Boolmaster Back at it again with a perfect video as per usual!
god the music choices for this video were excellent
the editing during the ludwig tournament is pure masterclass 🧑🍳
I have to admit, even though i always want Hbox to win and i'm really happy whenever Amsa is playing (and winning), i can't hate either Zain nor Cody, both players play OUT OF THEIR MINDS.

the music man

loved that you had j-music all over this video! always great to see pat bartley getting more love!
They are amazing!

I thought this is one of those grocery store memes lmaoo
@@FirePuff12 nah it was at ***** con lol
@@FirePuff12oh, like you're doing now?

@@mL-7992 Yeah, I always thought of it as: Mango wrote the first chapter of the book on how to beat Zain as Fox and then Cody wrote the rest.
the montage of zain catching up back to cody to 6-6 editing was so fucking good. i love those drums. great video, great editing, keep it up 😄
Boolmaster’s Melee videos are masterpieces, I’m sooo excited to see this one
thank you bro!!!!!
the drums
and the horns
Absolutely destroy
Recording sets is the best thing melee community has ever done for itself
i love your melee docs man :D you have a knack for story telling and i always love your music choice!! ^^
THANK YOU

Thank you for the notes
He’s back awesome video ❤
Love both Zain and Cody favorite rivalry.
Bro that use of the jazzy 3rd palace theme from P5 during the Zain v Cody first to ten was crazy. You cooked with that.
Zains drum solo was so sick! Great job on this vid. That hot dog eating contest line and the chuckle after it is one of the funniest things ive heard on melee youtube in a while lmaoo
People always say that melee is like jazz, but I have never seen that sentiment more well represent untill today
Those edits are fire dude
There was no jaz in the video, though....
incredible video one of my favorite rivalries ever in melee
Love this video. I'm definitely on the Zain train. He is still my #1 in my heart but Cody definitely is the big guy to beat right now.
BOOLIN
imo in the beginning you could've colored the Fox green instead of blue because Cody uses green Fox and Zain uses red Marth
You’ve done it again, Bool! Great video!
top 1 boolmaster melee video, honestly top 3 melee videos of all time.
makes me happy seeing this video blow up
Absolute cinema. Every video is a banger great job bool. The whiplash esquié drum solo finale was awesome. Keep it up!
17:45 little known fun fact but SFAT beat Zain on FD
Zain lost on FD before Summit 11, but he had a 3 year streak of not losing there. And losing twice is what made Mango’s run insane. So yeah Cody PICKING FD and then winning.. as surreal as boolmaster puts it
the drum solo sequence in the first to 10 was great
Bool master is the best RUclipsr known to man
Right back at ya buddy
Craziest thing was me realizing PPMD was the only one of the 5 Gods to never hold 1st place.
He was for a season not a full year tho
Already know this is gonna be a BANGER of a video
YOU ARE THE GOAT. PEEP THE BIG BROTHER REFERENCE IN THE BEGINNING
I loved the BB25 reference, makes my heart smile when my 2 interests collide in a video@@bool_master
Watching the same person win over and over again is fun. The most popular teams in history are dynasty’s.
It can be fun sometimes! Hope you enjoyed the video!
Also if we are counting summer rankings, Cody is the 8th to be 1st, as PPMD was rank 1 during the summer of 2014
Another insane development I never heard or cared for until I watched this amazing documentary. Melee community always has such insane video quality
Boolgod back at it again with peak, WE TAKE THOSE BOOL LFGGGGG
Phenomenal video!!!!!!!!!!!
Genesis X was the highest level this game has ever been played. Falchion vs Metal Legs honed like iron sharpening iron. Cody and Zain commanded dominance over an entire community, nothing standing in their way.

So Cody was 11-0 going into their 12th set, which was at Summit 12, and he won for the first time. Melee is full of poetry.
If cody and zain was the grand finals for every tournament i wouldn't complain, their sets are electric
It crazy cause a few years ago it felt like no fox was ever gonna touch zain. But now Cody's doing it no patches needed
Finally watched majority of ur vids. Love ur smash content primarily but props to u for diversification!
Awesome channel man, keep it up!!
The video and the music used are insane
This idea is the exact reason I love the Hungrybox story. And so often he would win from losers bracket; where any loss could mean the end of his run. I love nothing more than watching someone fight through losers brackets and Hungrybox was someone who was known for it for some time.

crazy good editing love to see it and can't wait to see what you come out with next
just clicked, but hoping the video explains why you made fox's laser trans in the thumbnail!
It was a happy accident haha, I’m all here for it :)
Bool your storytelling of melee is and remains magical, I'd been waiting for this and I'm so happy it's here now !
I'll always be a Zain supporter because his marth gives me wonder like no other player but man Cody is good

This video was awesome
What if the person winning has really great gameplay?
Thsi is the new great rivalry of this game. What a time to be a melee fan.
I miss when Hbox was the GOAT
This is better than Naruto and Sasuke rivalry
Shocking stat about a game that’s been out over 20 years has only had seven people in number one at the end of the year
Would’ve been nice to hear Zain’s perspective and have him being interviewed as well
When I was making this doc, I felt like having just cody’s pov would be better for the sake of the narrative. I wanted it to HIS story. If I could do it over again though I def would’ve done a Zain interview as well. Next time!
THE GOAT RETURNS!!!!

dawg you keep fucking me up on netplay LOL good video though
Lmfaooo good games bro, always happy to play. And thank you!
Note @ 20:25, for real, Hbox is a GOAT,
Script can use some cleaning up, but the editing and storytelling is clean. Looking forward to more
superb editing man. love the video. you a FL guy?
Florida?

I’ve been using the same mic as always, I just finally know how to use it lmfao

You have "Mang0 & Axe" subtitled on a video clip around the 1:12 mark, but its Mang0 & PPMD
excellent documentary. Thank you!
I don't like cody because of his cheating, so I wanna see him lose to zain, but it isn't looking good. I guess that is what makes an exciting rivalry tho.

This video was straight boolin'. It's your best yet! Great stuff
This is a great video! I love the editing!
Back to melee videos. Yeah buddy!
idk its probably just because cody was the one interviewed but cant help but feel that this video is super biased towards him.
LETS FRIGGIN NGO NEW VID :V
How demoralizing must it be to be up 6-1 and your opponent brings it back to 6-6
Amazing video, keep up the great work ♥
Omg a Big Brother reference?? Huge W by the best Smash RUclipsr!
No, not rival.. he's been training him to duel Marth. He's his coach
sick vid
Damn dude, excellent vid/editing!
Amazing video!!
yo im digging the jazz music my guy

It really reminds me of The Seatbelts but like it’s mixed with persona’s keyboards
check description!
