Great to see another Hi-fi enthusiast who loves Graphic Equalisers. So many audiophiles are so snobbish about them. I have 3 myself, 2 old ones from late 70s/early 80s with just sliders, but also a Kenwood GE-920 from 1988, very similar to yours, but 14 bands per channel, starting from 32hz to 16khz. I've had it about 10 years and I love it. But until recently hadn't used it for some time, I now have it connected to the pre-out of my av amp, then into 2 monoblock power amps, it sounds amazing, and looks great with the spectrum analyser going

I guess all these equalizer share the same chipset , and therefore the similar frequencies. I am the proud owner of A Sony SEQ-411 , Single analyzer, two sets of manual sliders , 60hz ,150 Hz ,400 Hz , 1Khz , 2.4Khz , 6Khz and 14 Khz , it really is my pride and joy, thinking about getting another one ! Awesome series of videos !

Fun fact, youtubes audio codec cuts off all frequencies above 16khz. Just thought that was an interesting point to add

Thanks man after an extended quest looking for the Sony out of frustration I broke off and discovered this Kenwood.. Pretty amazing manufacturers quit making the visually pleasing EQ setups A lot of retro stuff is coming back in style maybe we could get a modern version wouldn't that be awesome thanks for the review man it will help me with my purchase!

First you convinced me to hunt down and purchase a Sony eq for my Sony TC-K677ES deck, now you convinced me to purchase a Kenwood GE-5010 for my TEAC deck in my movie room. Lol

in your research for the finalists that appeared in the previous video, I would love to see the ones that didn’t make the cut. Yamaha has an old all-digital EQ with an all-red spectrum analyzer that I recently sold as part of the system. Typically goes for around $300 give or take. and I think you flashed that JVC with the fold-down control panel and the enormous display that looked really sweet. I think there is a Sony ES equalizer as well that has been on eBay forever that is ridiculously expensive, but looks really cool. I also like the various other brand EQ’s with the typical cool blue VFD spectrum analyzers but usually they are fairly tiny displays but have lights on all the sliders which are usually a different color.

hi! thanks for your videos! I need fo find one for myself, I miss the dancing bars of my 1991 Sony LBTD 505 component system. Same design as yours, but integrated with the amp and showing pnly one set of bars. You got my sub man, looking forward to the new system you will restore around the new equalizer!

Funny that... Through the 20 to 20kHz sweep test, I was also watching my BDS PP-131 2U 31Bars from 20-20Khz visualiser, you know... It did the same thing? lol.. It's ok, just having a laugh. Anyway, I have my PP131 hooked up to my Technics SU-600 'New Class A' (sold between 1988-90)... And yes, still sounds sweet... I was surprised when I checked a couple of years back (maybe I'd forgotten being 50 lol), but it's Frequency Response is spec'd at 5Hz to 70Khz, either way, like your setup, in some ways "They don't make them like they used to" 🤔😏😎🇬🇧

I use a AudioSource EQ200 in my music listening-station. It's got ten left and right sliders with red LEDs. Six control buttons also with LEDs. And twenty(10 each L & R) dancing LED meters. It really makes my setup "come alive". All of the lights and meters function whether I'm actually playing music through it or bypassing it. I have a Kenwwod EQ also, but it only has two lights on it. So needless to say it's not in use. I'm old school and want to "see" my music as well as hear it!
