    I'm shocked that Joseph only has 1.7k subscribers. But when you think about it 1.7k is a lot of people. I kind of feel like I'm in an exclusive club of people who get to enjoy these videos when Joseph releases them just for us.

    Like your reviews on BN and actually wearing a decant sample of Yatigan today. Have tried it before (6yrs ago or more) but this newer one has better opening. Longevity is not more than 3-4 hours max in my arid climate. Still I do like the fragrance. Nowhere near the animalic it has been described to have with my newer decant. Subscribed!

    This was a great cross-section JJ. Le 3e Homme still probably my fav of the line currently, but I'm well down a good 60 mL of the original from layering it so much. Haven't tried Yatagan yet, but I will say that I'm more than a little surprised and impressed that Caron still sells it. This summer was the summer of Pour un Homme de Caron Sport for me. One of the few minty, salty gourmand-ish freshies out there.

      Thank you so much! Pour Un Homme de Caron Sport is really a departure and a great creation. Sadly, it apparently didn't have wide enough appeal to keep it production. I love that salty ambergris-esque dry down.

    I blind bought Caron Pour Homme, a vintage bottle from the early 80s. At first I was misled by the sweetness of the scent , but shortly after oh dear ❤ fell in love . Lavender , vanilla and a weird cocoa vibe . Wish it projected more , it’s decent for $45 bucks 5-6h can’t complain !

    A couple of years ago I tried the vintage version of Yatagan and I was quite impressed. Now I have a modern 2018 bottle and have to say that the vintage one is much better - yes, more animalistic but also way more articulated and sharp. Comparing to the vintage one, the modern version is more vague, soft and even sweet - a kind of a lavender soap with some soft bitter herbs laying on cheap soy bean chocolate.

    It's great you mention current options for perfumers making new stuff that doesn't need to "sell" lol... Rogue and Papillon would be two I love in that arena... Namely Chypre Siam and Salome respectively... They're incredible and seemingly from another time, even though they aren't...! Having said that I do have a handful of fragrances that are REALLY vintage (my oldest bottle of JOY Parfum is from 1948)... Who knows if they're better... I likely won't even open (THAT one)... But one that I feel very strongly differs from the current version is Chanel Pour Monsieur... I can only assume it's the oakmoss restrictions that have... Well... CHANGED (I'm being so kind!) the current formulation... Vintage bottles (pre 2000) are leagues better and still smell gorgeous... Would love to watch a comparison of that one from you!! 🎉

    I got my vintage black cap Caron Pour un Homme. It has restored my faith in buying vintage! Now I’m curious about the modern formulation as well. Especially if it is apparently the same (so they say) as the original formulation.
    I also got a Royal Bain de Caron! I hardly had a chance to smell it, but so far may remind me of a less sweet Joop Le Bain

    I genuinely believe a sizable portion of vintage collectors simply enjoy the scent of aged fragrances and don't realize it. My collection is around 80% vintage and I always notice how some notes seems muted and others stronger. It's like good wine and is an integral part of the hobby. I'm very curious to see how some of my modern Guerlain will age since their reformulations can be so close to the originals. Another one I noticed a massive change is my bottle of Lonestar Memories. Straight out the box it smelled very rough and a bit screechy, like the notes didn't mesh together well. After spraying it a couple times and letting some air in the bottle it seems to have massively changed and is now much more smooth and rounded.

    • @JJColb
      @JJColb  2 года назад

      I firmly believe this has maturation and degradation plays a significant part in it. For many fragrances though, the degradation does make an impact on the integrity of the composition.

    This is interesting! I have a bottle of Arome 3 by D’ORSAY and it smells like a better version on Caron’s Pour Un Homme. Unfortunately my wife hates it so I wear it when I go to bed. Yatagan smells like a pharmacy in Chinatown. I’ve taken Chinese medicine for over 10 years which I am used to. I do have a vintage aftershave which is really nice. I find the EDT too overpowering. Great informative video JJ! Really interesting.

    nice review, it's true that houses look at profit and reformulate perfumes based on fashions, but it's also true that they reformulate to reduce costs, that is, first I'll sell you a good product then start reducing the quality.. Regarding Yatagan you have compared the almost late 90 version with the current one, the 90 version was already very attenuated, IFRA had already hit, try Yat 76/88 then tell me. Pour un Homme was certainly "reinforced" in the first 80's, to keep up with the superpowers of the time, then it returned "as before" The 3 man. It was excellent in 1985 and also in the first 90, the current one is certainly lighter.. In my opinion, the one who lost the most among all is Yatagan
