When I was a young man my dad told me "Cheer up things could get worse", so I cheered up and things got worse.

My ol man told me, "Happy the F up!"
My dad said the same thing and he was right lol
That's the way shit works
Homer Simpson “worst day of your life so far”
Just saw you leaving the freedom factory! You’re the man Steve!
You’re not the best because you are perfect every time you’re the best because you are there till the end and make sure it’s right before it goes out to your customers.
@UKMechanic He is one of the top engine builders in the industry not to mention the innovation in the billet LS style SMX and SML blocks that he machines. Just for starters.
It's nice to see that even the pros have issues once in a while. So far, I'm 9weeks out on a set of valves 10weeks on the cam and block just showd that it needs a sleeve.
What's the common reason that the sleeves dropped? Because usually their bottomed out pretty well upon assembly.
That's a bummer on what happened...
.... But freaking awesome to see someone from Europe, come all the way to the USA just to help build is engine, alongside you guys!
1600hp for a street car. WOAH
Man I want to come hang out for a week such a cool job love your videos keep em coming love it.... cheers from idaho.
Those sleeves dropped like my you know what in high school 😮

Sorry Bob - Couldn't resist.

Pretty cool y'all let the owner get his hands on the guts of his own mill
And its real good you guys caught the issues during dyno break in .
Steve, I’m so sorry you are having so much bad luck lately. Keeping you in my prayers man.
lol
Wait till Wednesday video
😂
@stevemorrisracing
That sounds a little ominous.
Hope life gets easier for ya soon mate.
Good to see Kyle taking over on the video. Great job guys. So cool customers in France💪
Good job ,nice video really enjoyed it. Thanks 🇺🇸😎
Fast an Furious 🖤🤙
Keep pushing on it'll get better with determination.
Really sucks when you can’t even rely on/assume someone before you did their job correctly
Just great to catch It on the Dyno.
Very efficient engine! I dig it
None of this matters. What matters is DEWEY! 😃

So you are that guy???
The simpleton???
The ignorant one??

@@metalted6128 You're new here and it shows, kid. Some day when you grow up and have some wrinkles in that brain of yours, you can sit at the adult's table if we allow it. Maybe.
Gee I thought this was a performance engine channel. All this time it’s a dog channel. 🙉
21:18 and a bit beyond that.
@@danmyers9372 Obviously you don't know how much Dewey is a part of the Morris' family and the countless videos he's in.
Dewey has own t-shirt line but you wouldn't know that either since to you, he's just a 'dog'. Those whom have been following SME for years know it's a doggo channel filled with Wagon, engine, and racing content to support Dewey's treat fund. Lighten up, Francis.
Better to have it happen at the shop instead of sending it to France and it happen there. It's always better it happen in the shop instead of when it's installed in the Customers car and then it happens.
My goodness nothing beats the way a hemi sounds or looks. My 409 looks pretty sweet but it frooze up during the winter. Between its just the rings. I have transmission fluid and marvel mystery oil soaking in the cylinders
Nice video as always i would change those stainles studs my experince is that wil eat itself stuck in aluminium cheers from Holland
When you are pushing the limits of internal combustion things happen.
So how do you fix those sleeves ? And what keeps them from slipping down again ?
Bill Miller has always been good stuff for what I have seen. ❤
Couple of questions . First is how do prevent having to tear down engine due to sleeves dropping. Second is France fuel is vastly different will your flex fuel deal adjust accordingly.?
I'm surprised he has enough freedom in France to roll that rig on the street.
BS, I'm French and no way he use it on open road. Too strict laws
😟
France is just like the US - if you can afford it, you can pretty much do what you want - no matter what "regulations" are in place.
@@kermitahnenerbe3722Stop commenting about your only guesses! I’ve been driving my car to dragstrip for 1500km completely modified, i have plenty of friends doing it already with blowers, so yes i’ll be driving it, and in case one cops isn’t happy, i’ll pay his fine and that’s all 😉

well atleast i know who not to get a Block through. Well for Chrysler blocks and heads i would go through INDY. But i am not a MOPAR "More Parts" fan
So.....curious.....how much extra did it cost to to mirror finish all that over whatever it would have been if it hadn't been mirrior'd ???
I thought the French weren't into personal Street cars

Sounds like life gave you lemons... time to turn them in to some cash. ..get your lemonade stand out
But the turkey carver is shooting bullets...right..??..
Holy silicone batman 😳
That surprised me too, I imagine they loosely dry-fit it before laying down the spooge.
1:12:Always see this blower belt it's always wrong the belt last 2 years when done right but all racers belts last 1 hour of race time because it's wrong adjuster puller should be cogged or flat on flat side of belt then belt would last 2 years. But every engine I see from everyone Is wrong. Belts over pulley should be cogged or belt under. Also really large pulley adds 5 hp. Small pulled like that one robs hp because it has to ramp up a small pulley
You guys still have reinforced the engine dyno room after the explosion? Seriously guys
You can’t drive that in France
Was thinking that myself , no modifications allowed to road cars in France.
👍👍
Bro don't blame you one bit for taking the 100k it will afford you to do the things that you want to do whats wrong with that!!..NOTHING!!!
To bad the guy that sold the block to your customer cant eat some of that cost. Not a good look for his reputation.
👍✌
It really says a lot about Steve's reputation that someone from France is having his engine built here by the Morris fam and sent all the way back across the Atlantic. Shoutout to Kyle, really growing in his skills and doing so well.
I assume anyone who dislikes got beat by one of steves engines lol
Right!
😂😂😅😂😅😂😅 that's a lot of dislikes
Could have possibly been this kid talking about his engine. It has a polished block, it has a polished..who gives a rats ass, we can see the mofo glistening like a huge diamond ring. Letting all the world know IM RICH. And then to stand back and watch his 10:22 friend lift a fully assembled 14/ 71 roots blower chest high, just my 2 cents on all the dislikes.

have to start making HEMI engines now
Shit happens when you're pushing the envelope.
has nothing to do with that. bill mitchell engines fucked up and didn't fully seat the sleeves before shipping the block
its a tool radius problem at the bottom of the bore. this was a big issue 20 years ago with Darton Sleeves.
I had a tall deck aluminum BBC that the sleeves dropped twice in two seasons. Had to have the block decked after each rebuild....
Be kewl if the owner, would share back or post his own videos once he gets the engine in France…
I'm French and trust me idk how he gonna drive this on open road cuz inspection are very strict. U.S is open minded on car modification, France is big no no sadly. Not even like Germany where you can get a "custom registration", France it's impossible
@@kermitahnenerbe3722with the kind of money the owner has and it naturally being known as a “vintage collector car”. They’ll probably give it a mileage exception saying it can be driven no more than 5k Kilometers a year or something stupid. He’ll be on the street im sure.
@@tannerharkey You can't even have a fake supercharger in aluminum. I heard a guy had to remove it cuz it's was a risk of more injury if he collides with pedestrian.
Another guy with a wing in alumium (oldschool tuning crap), had to remove it too.
The guy is full of sh*t cuz he thinks he can only get a ticket... but they can impound vehicles and you take it deep the a..
Its crazy to see how far these guys have come with being comfortable and being themselves on camera than when they first started. Keeps getting better and better.
You own it, and learn from it. As long as it doesnt happen again, its a learning experience to make everyone better.
Good job Kyle... getting more comfortable in front of the camera...
Congratulations Kyle! You are definitely settling in in front of the camera. Don't forget that you are a bad ass and that camera is your bitch.

@@Norweeg All he needs is the gray hair and beard!🤣🤣🤣
I can imagine this in Europe. It will be a head turner. Wow.
The local Gendarmes here in France will absolutely love him when it hits the street. That’s after he’s paid an absolute fortune to get it into the country.
I bought a bill mitchell block for my turbo charged max wedge built. The porosity in the main and cam bores covered about 15% of the surface, all of the threads had the peaks ripped out, and there was an entire 2"x1" chunk welded back onto the corner of the oil pan rail before it was machined. When I finally convinced him to accept a return he bitched about the orange paint marker I used to circle the welded area because he's just going to sell it to someone else.
Bought a keith black block for $1000 more and it's leaps and bounds better in every aspect including customer support. One of the core plugs had a damaged thread, when I called them they sent an entire set free of charge
Joe, Bob would be so proud of you. I know I am.
@@theoldmansgarage thank you sir. That means a ton
How do you pick the heat range of the spark plugs?
Man no offense but its kinda relieving to see others being stalked by the struggle bus lol. The struggle is universal among us
Can’t remember the last time I seen a 14-71 High Helix from BDS. Those are pricey units + polish. Gonna blow the hides off the Charger.
Thank goodness didn’t have to change rod length or piston with having to mill the block.. or a new sleeve set i know only couple thousandths but things add up quick when thinks go wrong $

You’re a true pro Steve to fix someone else’s mistake. The frenchies took that engine to the right place. 👍🏻
Having spent 30 odd years in the motorsport game you quickly learn that when playing with horsepower, sometimes the horse kicks you in the arse.
The dyno room window shure is clean!
Needs the Greta & Animal Farm decals to be complete. Especially since this engine is going over to Europe!
Ass u me !! 😉never assume other people did the job correctly, years ago maybe but nowadays nope. Thanks
Would it be worth the effort to have "fire rings" from the heads to the blocks water jackets? Would that help aviod gaskets lifting OR would it be better to know when the gaskets lift in order to avoid further damage?
I have a long term history with blown hemi's in drag racing, This was more interesting to me. :)
Steve, you forgot the old saying. Never assume, because you make an ass out of u and me. 😊
If it happened when he got it back in his car, THAT would have been a bad day.
Great job, Morris's!
😄
Wow; that Hemi is like one giant piece of polished jewelry ! Sorry about the sleeve issue. Your customer has been treated very well and is happy ; so congrats to SME for that. Great video and many thanks.
Hemis blow up, just ask Finnegan.
So if you didn't build it, how are you eating it???
We run into a problem almost every time we assume another party has done what they are supposed to and dont check the work. Unfortunately it is insanely time consuming to not only do your own work but check everyone else's
People just dont get what its like to run a race engine shop…its tough
Have u seen sleeves drop like that before? Man that sucks to have to redo that
Not normally, have a look at some top fuel guy rebuilds….
At least you found the issue before it left....sucks but itll be right
Citroen 2-CV would be an insane swap ;-)
It's tough for people to put it into perspective. That is 2% of gross revenue gone, PLUS losses as that stuff needs to be replaced, PLUS another week of work to do the job.
Conservatively, Steve easily lost 4% of gross revenue (likely higher loss of net income) for the year.
As a business owner, that can be the difference between going racing and sitting out a season
521 👍's up Steve Morris thank you for sharing 🤗
it happens Steve... you don't want it too, but sometimes it does!! You just gotta roll with the punches!!! Thanks for sharing!
Sucks when we take for granted that other work was done properly and come to find out it was not.
On a daily basis I get parts that are not up to part for one reason or another. Nothing to this level of building engines or repairs, but still the same concept. Issues with things outside of one's control that eats up time and money. Sucks.
Beautiful engine, good horsepower, just saying.
My favorite clip in your into is Steve and his wife.
That's true love..
Just have to remember, you still have a dream job.. all of us mechanics have the same struggles day in and out. It’s a passion and a curse all in the same week.. but that’s what it takes to be successful
He'll never be late for French toast again! 😆
Not sure, here in France they don't serve french toast at gas station lol
Those northern beer machines like to flambé them while the sand rails try to fry them. Good people, especially the non-Parisians... 🏁
you mean crepes. you know, the really thin pancakes?
Joe's a young kid assembling the hemi. Good for him, learn as much as you can.
Thank you!
Did I hear that correctly... The dry sump pump is driven off the distributor driveshaft like a mechanical fuel pump would be?
Yep
Great job guys. You shouldn't have gotten stuck with eating the rebuild.
Maybe yes and maybe no. When you get parts to assemble an engine it would seem that who ever installed the sleeves should have sent paperwork saying that they were installed and bottomed out in the block. If no paperwork then that should have been verified by Steve Morris Engines. If that is the only problem with this build then the owner of the engine should be thrilled and Steve learned a valuable lesson. Of course Steve will make it right.
Top hat sleeves avoid this problem.
Nice job one little problem you don’t run the sealing rings at the bottom of the spark plugs on a hemi .the spark plug tube is the seal the ring cuts the spark plug tube causing a oil leak
Raced a SSEA 66 street hemi for years motor by Vanke, headby Barton. Vanke told me to keep washers on plugs. They did cut into tunes but I ran milodon, tube seals. No leaks.
Hi to the Morris family from Bradenton
Love the apron! MAN COOKING 😂
Crazy for a car in Europe. Great video once again. I feel your pain having things go wrong. At least you have a plan!
You could mount some cameras in the dyno cells and offer a live feed for your customers when you test the motors you build.
What a sweetheart of a engine hopefully you guys will show some pix of it when it’s done

In France the bar would be measured kilowatts. So I'm sure the figure being over 1200kw is a big deal. His ballpark was probably 1000kw or around 1,350hp. He almost go that on pump swill.
They should have actually tried pulling some timing. I've seen a few big cube Hemi builds that peaked at 28 degrees and another at 26! My very mild 528 liked 30 for some reason.
