Nissan Qashqai/Rogue Sport Review

- The Nissan Qashqai, called Rogue Sport in the United States is a subcompact crossover sold in Europe for years. It has now been brought into North America to compete with vehicles like the Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V and the Toyota CH-R. The Qashqai looks like a smaller Rogue, with the same design, features and safety features found in the bigger Rogue. Powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with a front wheel drive base model matched to a 6-speed manual or all wheel drive versions using a continuously variable transmission.

Canadian Car Review
Motormouth Canada - Авто/Мото
Bought this as soon as it came out and I love it so much
The perfect engine for this car is the 1.6 diesel we have (europe). With 130hp and 320nm of torque it will never let you down and its real world fuel economy is about 5,5 - 6l/100 km. Believe me it pulls!
The North American Big 2 manufacturers, GM and Ford, need to do their homework on this one.
Great review Zack! I don't care much for SUVs at this stage in my life but you made some great points about the Qashquai that I feel myself noticing. It's great that they offer it with a manual (if it shifts smooth) but I'm sure as usual you're left missing out on a lot of good features if you take it.
Believe me, it's quite a supercar. In advantage of its very reasonable pricetag, it' s still unbeatable, even after its first release, way back in 2006👍🐼💖
I have an 18 model.. this car is pushing me completely away from Nissan. This Qashqai is a terrible investment.
Been living with the Qashqai SV AWD for two years now. It's good, but not great. It's getting rather "rattley" - dashboard squeaks and creaks especially in cold weather. Surprising since it was built in Japan. Can't complain about fuel economy considering the class and AWD - averaging 10L/100KM in all 'round driving. The engine desperately needs more power - either slap a turbo on it, or put the Rogue's 2.5 in there.
I saw one in Uruguay, look smaller in real life. Cool name by the way.
Thank you Nissan for not making it ugly like its competition!
They still managed to f-k 1 thing up though - making the name ugly. Qashqai is the name of a nomadic tribe in a remote area of Iran. Amazing...
The older Qashqai looks so much better than this generic thing though.
Does it come with full size spare tire?
How does it compare to Crosstrek (2018 or 2019)? Similar in price!
Hi, can you tell what city or area you made this video? The scenery and forests were interesting:).
Zack, how does this compare to the new CrossTrek ?
Why is the design of qashqai in north america different from those in europe and asia?
Hi Zach. Just wondering how tall you are and how your legs felt under the steering wheel. I'm 6 ft 2 inches and hoping this will be a good size of car for me as I cannot afford the Rogue. Thanks.
I'm six feet with no issues. Try for yourself to be sure.
Motormouth Canada thanks so much.
It the SL available with FWD and the manual?
Hi, You mentioned the car is not good for young kids, Can you please give more details on that, Thanks.
Zack, why are the Gas Mileage numbers worse than the Rogue's for this car?
No they're not, where the heck did you get that from? Rogue has a 2.5 L engine and weighs more.
So is this the 2014 model coming to Canada & US or is it the same 2018 model coming to Europe in July 2017, they look quite a bit different? I saw this exact car in Europe last year, only difference was the steering wheel. Also we probably are not getting the panoramic roof like Europeans do, I couldn't find info on this. In the video you've mentioned this is the 2017 refresh model being released in both continents, or at least I get that kind of meaning from what you've said in that sentence, 0:23
you didn't mention if it is slower or faster than Rogue
According to Alex on Auto review, it is slower and get equal less mpg than the Rogue. Terrible I must say.
is this going to be a replacement of the juke?
cos boc I don't think so. I feel the Juke is kind of after the same market as the Kia Soul and this is more so after the same market as the Ford Escape. Similar in size, but different demographics.
cos boc yes this is replacing the juke
Scott Harris I thought maybe the nissan kick was replacing the juke
no they will still sell the joke as well as this joke.
I LIKE IT
When giving examples of subcompact SUVs such as Mazda's CX3, why don't you include Fiat's 500X? I remember you doing a review of the 500X and being quite impressed with it .. "quite smitten" were your exact words I recall.
True, didn't think of it off the top of my head.
I bought Raw4 because it's 6 speed automatic transmission, . Cvt transmission are not top nuch yet, after 90.000km it's scars me
Nissan Cash-Cow
CrashCry
Zack has a wonderful package.
that piano black gloss finish is annoying on the dash trim. It may "look" nice and all that. But it's prone to finger prints and the like. And way too reflective in the sunshine.
It looks nice but maintaining that shiny black plastic all over the dash is a pain in the ass. It always gets scratched up and looks like crap after a while.
No Android Auto or Apple CarPlay support though.
Peter Revie WHAT REALLY!!!!
What you talking about? They do have them
Louis Win can u plz explain how it work?
This vehicle needs the Juke engine. At this size and price point, the 1.6 L turbo engine would put the sport in this CUV and separate itself from the rest of the pack.
The Japanese REALLY need to stop naming their cars different things and re-branding them (in some cases) for North America. Why is a Infinity G37 a Skyline in Japan and the Acura Integra a Honda Integra in Japan? Also they miss out SO much by not selling their cool and quirky cars here... There is a such a high demand and they are missing out on it.
While i understand the reasoning for Nissan to put a 2.0L under the hood, I'd have preferred this vehicle with a slightly larger 2.5L if not with a smaller turbo engine.
The rogue has a 2.5L this is like its little brother, so it makes sense
warmwhisky In my opinion, the heavier 2.5L Rouge is underpowered. And so is this qashqai, lighter yet underpowered with a 2.0L.
and it only has 141 hp??
Nissan's interior still leaves something to be desired...Probably something to do with the shapes and some of the chintzy chrome placements. Can we get more power and torque in these CUV's? Where's the fun? At least 180-200 hp and 180-200 lbft for a bit more oomph...like the engine gets the job done, but its probably heavier than a civic, with similar power, and the civics w/o turbo feel slow. Like the HR-V and C-HR, their engines seem so lackluster.
Do you go racing in the city? Max we go is upto 80+ in the city.. what else u need such power for?
141 HP?
The day the put a 6speed automatic in it , I'll buy the first one .
Gone are those days pal. Most car makers are going towards cvt because of the fuel efficiency.... You're going to need to take a manual to get the 6 speed...
In middle east nissan replace the (juke) with (kicks).
I thought they already have the Juke
Why did Nissan name their car after Iranic nomads lol
Kourosh-e Kabir lol
Zack you Forgot the Crosstrek .....again...
If only you'd mentioned how much it is....
Qashqai - Cash cow?
Qashqai is a ancient Persian tribe
the euro spec rogue sport is far better
Just call it the rogue sport in Canada as well. Qashqai sounds like a skin rash.
I drove one for two weeks in Australia last winter. the one he's testing has an upgraded interior, without that it feels very cheap. also, the worst part is the road noise that filters into the cabin. this vehicle was not fun to drive. beware....
Really hate the name... sounds like "cash cow" or "crash cry".
yeah ....but for $25,000 I can get a forester !?
Yes you can, a base model, and along with it you'll also get a headache and a wallet raping when it comes to parts, trust me, you'll be paying a Fortune for subaru parts.
I got one it's the worst car I've ever owned. It rattles has no power crap on Mpg broke down several times had braking fault battery fault sensor fault basically its cheap crap but if you don't believe me buy one oh and when you take it back for repairs they say they can't find the fault but the clue is the brakes are stuck on as I'm going 70mpg .....
Second
first
Worst car worst car company in Canada
I don't get these manufacturers unless it's the stupid millennials requesting this type of vehicle. I love the styling and size of these SUVs but they shove the equivalent of a bicycle motor in it and call it sporty. This needs the turbo motor from the Nismo Juke at the least and a REGULAR 6 or 7 speed auto transmission. The CVT is horrid and feels like a slipping transmission.
Couldn't agree with you more. Kill the ugly Juke and put that 1.6T engine in this CUV already. Likewise, with the HR-V...put the 1.6T from the civic in their car too than maybe I'll think about getting one.
Correction, I mean the 1.5T engine from the civic into the HR-V.
Dashcam Dumbasses millenials get hammered for no reason again
Guaranteed to be a hit, eh? Thank you, Nissan marketing guy.
I just prefer my car journalists to stay in their lane and not swerve into the sales & marketing lane.
3000000+ sales in the another world by 2006-2017
Nissan loses me with the CVT.
dchawk81 there all going cvt buddy.
No they're not. Very few people who actually enjoy driving, will chose a CVT equipped vehicle...
Agreed. Nissan's CVT is really poor in terms of reliability. Instead of adding more gears to a regular automatic - they are going after variators, where belts wear off after like 60k km.
Andrew Brown they're*
And who? If you mean all Nissans, okay fine they just won't get me into one.
If you mean all manufacturers, it'll be quite a while if that ever happens. Ford just doubled down on a new 10 speed for their trucks. My '15 F-150 and '17 Fusion both have traditional 6 speed automatics.
Totally agree with you. CVT sucks
