    As a relatively young Knick fan (25) who only got to see a hobbled, injury-riddled Ewing post-knee injury, I'm amazed at how athletic and physically dominant Ewing was in his physical prime. Such a tenacious defender and incredibly physical in the paint. It's such a damn shame we could never get him a ring, but regardless, I'll always miss those 90s Knicks teams.

  • @mjchoi74
    @mjchoi74 9 лет назад +20

    Ewing was a victim of his own success. He was good enough to carry the team to 50+ wins every season so they were stuck with crappy role players in every other spot. You get 1 decent player like Starks or Mason and they go to the Finals and take the Bulls team (some of the greatest of all time) to 7 games. Ewing was last athlete I idolized, pure heart!

    • @justinhicks293

      The knicks and bulls cant vs eachother in the finals.

    • @mjchoi74
      @mjchoi74 8 лет назад

      They are independent points:
      (1) they make the NBA finals (against Houston)
      (2) they take MJs Bulls to 7 games in a number of Eastern Conference series. Note: Bulls never had to play a Game & in the NBA Finals in their championship run.

    • @vincepham2997
      @vincepham2997 8 лет назад +2

      Ewing and the knicks had the best chance in 1994 to win a title against the Rockets but blew it.
      Hakeem was a legend and more dominant than Ewing.

      Yoyo Ball and set the foundation of where the Knicks are to this day, the 3 P's poor pitiful and pathetic. 94 was their only shot at winning it all. I'm 52 and hoping to see them get that shot again and this time winning it all.

    My favorite moment was his performance in game 5 against Miami in '99 when Allan hit the game winner. Patrick kept them in that game with a double-double playing with a strained rib-cage muscle and torn achillies. As great as Houston's shot was, that was my biggest memory of that game.
    Can't help but get misty eyed thinking about it.

    Ring or no ring... being a NY Knicks fan during the 90's is something that I'll treasure forever. The passion... the emotion... the diving for loose balls ... the iron-clad defense ... the offensive rebounds. Winning a title would have been nice, but not doing so doesn't make me forget the blood, sweat and tears they shed DAY IN AND DAY OUT.
    I watch the Knicks now, and it's like I'm watching a bunch of people that just showed up for a pay check.

    great vid, reminds me of when the garden was rocking. patrick was such a warrior, the love-hate relationship we all had with him. the images of him in his locker after a game with the ice on his knees and legs. the way he turned into a young patrick ewing when he faced mourning. the way he battled on the court hurt or not. he gave it all. should've been there in '93. but its all good we still will never forget him.

    Not one player didn't have respect for Patrick Ewing.
    Everyone respected him and his game, he truely was one of the best players ever and one of the most loved. The Knicks changed dramastically when he was invited into New York, despite not winning a championship due to injury he still is one the top 50 of all time and a sure hall of famer and one to 10 best center of all time.

    Honestly, this is the best video i've ever seen for Patrick Ewing and the Knicks. The nostalgia is overwhelming (shedding a tear and ain't afraid to admit that shit). A top 5 C of All-Time and if it wasn't for the Greatest of ALL-TIME (MJ) he would have MULTIPLE RINGS, take it from someone that knows ball. Patrick Ewing was the definition of W.A.R.R.I.O.R. dude went hard every night and he was a C-O-M-P-L-E-T-E basketball player that did it all at both ends.

    Two memories I will always take with me from Ewing: Standing on the scorers table with his arms raised after winning the Eastern Conference title in 1994, and watching him walk off the court after Game 7 against the Rockets the same year iwht his head down and streamers and confetti falling on his shoulders. Both times, I have to admit, I had a tear in my eye.

    I'm from Chicago and respect Ewing more than anyone the Bulls ever faced during Jordan's career. Beyond the talent and physical dominance (and there was plenty of both), that cat was all heart. He never stopped coming. My two favorite in-game playoff dunks of all time were both on Ewing - the Jordan baseline shake and Pippen's monster facial during Jordan's retirement year. But the reason they're so compelling is that Ewing contested them like a f*cking man, bad knees and all. He never did anything less than compete 100% and getting to two finals and so many Eastern Conference finals during that era was no shame. He defined the Knicks as a team that was a bitch to play. I'm looking forward to the Georgetown teams he coaches doing the same - good luck to him.
