I like the PT the way it is. All the details in TPM and AOTC are important to understanding why Anakin chose to do what he did to try and save Padmé and ended up falling to the Darkside. I've never understood why people didn't get that. Maybe they just missed the details? Edit: I thought he was crying on Mustafar because he had been trying so hard to be the Jedi he looked up to and admired as a kid, but had to do all these terrible, very non-Jedi, things to save Padmé. He had a power. He did what the Jedi had told him to control and use his power, but he was never allowed to use it to save the people he cared about, like he dreamed he would one day when he was a boy.
@@rebekah.2187 the only thing significant to understanding how he went dark is that he was a slave, then almost everybody he knew since he was 10 treated him like he already was evil because they couldn't brainwash him as a baby. With his personality everything else would have been tolerable had they actually taught him how to control his emotions instead of going "lol just don't ever feel anything ever bro. Just stop caring that everyone around you is dying when they don't have to lol"
I actually liked the phantom menace, but only when I was 7 😆 you need to get the context lol. And in the II , yoda vs count Dooku 👌🏻I didn’t even knew there could be a curved hilt lightsaber
I definitely feel Ep 1-3 work better as is. We already know Vader is a bad guy. We can always get that in other things like the epic scenes with him in Rogue One & Rebels. I agree with your take on Ep 2. It doesn't really hold it's own, but is a HUGE part of Anakin's story. I think it would have been better if some of the deleted scenes had not been removed. Particularly the ones when Padme's family. They do a much better job of selling that Padme has feelings for Anakin and is trying to hide them.
I think the overall arc of the PT is important and its hard for me to imagine how an arc of equal satisfaction would be made without showing what they did. The OT showing Vader's fall and the PT showing his rise, strikes me as the perfect symmetrical arcs that resonate together and build on each other better than anything else could have.
@@vintifada7115 Perfectly said. It's really such a shame that trifecta was botched the way it was. It could have been such a beautiful thing. At least we can still appreciate the legacy in the EU.
@@vintifada7115 haha, I take it you're not a fan of the EU? I'm just starting to get into it myself, but anything seems like it'd be an improvement at this point and the world is still compelling to me.
@@Logomachus I think it’s uncharitable for me on an enjoyment or quality basis to say it’s as a whole not good. I haven’t dug into it. Everyone raves about the Thrawn trilogy I’m sure it’s great. I may play KOTOR soon; I played SWTOR for a bit. George has taken set pieces from it and uses them. Then again I also don’t like the idea of a race of aliens that are immune to the force! My issue with it is how it’s confused everyone’s understanding of the moral lessons of George Lucas’ work. People don’t understand George’s vision for the prequels in part bc of the EU. Those stories in another universe from George’s work influenced and primed them to expect something from George he didn’t want. I think the moral lessons from his work should be preserved and understood correctly even if people disagree.
I’ve been seeing a few things about the possibility of George coming back to Star Wars in some way because of recent dislike and disappointment across the fan base I’m hoping these rumours are true but I would say its unlikely George will return but he would save us 🙏🏻
Never going to happen. This franchise is in the claws of one, if not the most anti-consumer, greedy, borderline evil and inept media companies in the world. They will continue to milk it franchise to utter death and they will do so while hating on you, the viewer.
@@GoldenJackalTutorialYou are correct to some extent Disney unfortunately is only about profits not so much about representation and fan base wants. However with their current financial issues and profit losses there has been numerous rumours and information coming out over the past months about possible offloads within the Disney group. However we always have to take these as ‘rumours’.
@@dylantaylor8389yes very old😂if he was to return in some way I wouldn’t imagine him going back to his old role but more supportive towards ideas similar to dave’s new role
I love Episode 1, i would never exchance it for any random "Vader slaying people" movie. It would be an empty action movie. Episode 1 has meaning in it (just like the prequel trilogy in general)
I remember being 20 years old back when The Phantom Menace came out. My friends and I all went to watch it. I distinctively remember a few of us saying that we hated it because we wanted the Darth Vader that we remembered and instead we got a young boy who loved his mother. I think that was the reason why some people had such a hard time with TPM and AOTC. Those movies were showing us how and why Anakin fell to The Dark Side. "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" and that phrase best describes what happened to Anakin. Anakin wasn't evil, he was just scared and broken, especially after he was told that Padme, and his children died because of his force choke. By that point he was both physically and mentally broken! After that loss in spite of everything he did to try and prevent it, no matter how monstrous, he broke down and retreated deep down into Darth Vader. If it wasn't for Luke, then Anakin would've never found his way back to The Light Side. So even though I was one of the people bashing TPM and AOTC back when they first came out, I now realize that I was wrong. Those movies may not have been perfect, but they didn’t deserve the hate that they got. I'm even willing to bet that what we got was much better than what that marketing company wanted to give us.
From hearing all of GL interviews. I believe that he goes into filming with multiple variations in the story filmed. Then he goes to his editing room and decides what looks the best as a final product.
I don’t know about “the marketing way”, but growing up I thought in episode 1 he would only be a child for part of it and we’d get a time jump, so episode 2 would be episode 3 and 3 would be something I had never seen before, the “last fight” with Obi Wan which I feel has now been retconned to hell lol, but it is what it is.
I'm glad it happened the way it did but I would have liked to see them add on another half hour to revenge of the sith that just consists of Vader killing and hunting jedi. Also I love 1&2 and I do think they were necessary, and I think the reason that qui-gon had to die was because if he hadn't then It's possible anakin would have never gone to the dark side, which is sad because I love qui-gon jin, but then again I love most the characters so that's not saying much lol
I think it would be a nice spin to how everything and all the characters are viewed and would be very interesting to see if it was actually given to a marketing team and been done III as I and so on. The Clone Wars would have been SO important for more back story that i think it would be one of the most important shows of all time for the franchise at that point. Lastly you can then get into making movies or shows of backstories of all the important characters like Kenobi or Vader etc. to really solidify the story.
I think a great series for Star Wars would be a What If series, like that of marvels what if. I think this would bring back old fans and more love to our story.
I'm glad we got the Prequels that we did. They expanded the whole universe with all the lore, rather than just focusing on Vader and the Empire specifically. Plus it allowed George Lucas to finally tell the story that he always wanted to, about how democracies can be manipulated into becoming dictatorships.
I love episodes 1-6. Everything you said about attack of the clones is so on point. I had that movie on repeat one week when I was sick. I felt it really did give you so much story behind Anakin
"The making of Star Wars Revenge of the Sith." Now all we need is "A complete transcription of the 2012 treatments for Episode 7, 8, and 9, by George Lucas."
I wouldn’t have wanted a completely different prequel trilogy, but I did want more of the clone wars in Ep. 2 and more Vader vs. Jedi in Ep. 3. We never really got to see him help “the empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights”.
When I was younger waiting on episode 3 to come out i alway thought we would see Vader in his suit executing the Jedi purge thats what i most looked forward to. I remember the old message boards theorizing and discussing it. But we got what we got still a great movie and my personal favorite starwars movie
Sounds amazing. I'd just combine episodes 1 & 2 together into a condensed one, episode 3 would be the new episode 2 and then the new episode 3 would be about vader and setting him up as the villain for original trlogy
I'm glad we got it the way we did to be honest, at one time I did really dislike the Phantom Menace, but I do like it a lot more now, not sure if my dislike of the sequel trilogy made me like it more, but perhaps so.
Funny bit of info: When my dog is ready to go in or out, she paces back and forth in front of the door like Darth Maul does when he's waiting for the sheilds to drop. I should have named her Maulie. 🤣 🍻🤘
I personally couldn’t go with any option that removed The Phantom Menace. I know allot of people don’t like it, but it’s my personal favourite. It shows how the smallest entity of corruption can come into power, changing the world/galaxy in an instant. It shows Palpatine’s cunning and intelligence. It shows that one of the most twisted villains we’ve ever seen in film, was at one point an innocent child just like everyone else. It shows that he loves his family and that he has dreams and aspirations of his own, that we all know crumble to dust in the coming years. Darth Maul; enough said. Qui-Gon is a pillar of truth and nature in a very advanced and corrupt system. I could rant all day about The Phantom Menace and it’s themes/characters.
The Phantom Menace is my favorite of the prequels. While there are things in it I don’t particularly like, and things I would change, it does have a kind of magic to it (And I’m an original “been there in 1977” fan.) Attack of the Clones is so boring, and Revenge of the Sith is rushed and has elements that don’t jive with established lore which bugs me.
@@dinkydoodle8325 it was hated by crazy OT nerds who didn't want ANY changes. They came up with random reasons that don't make any sense. Like Anakin's actor acting is absolutely fine, especially for a kid, midichlorians don't contradict OT in any way, Jar-jar to me is funny lol, and you literally have to be 10iq to not understand politics plot, to me it was exciting and story was cool
I'd like to get a vader solo series with hayden coming back and doing content like this... but it'd have to be extremely dark and I feel like disney would never do it sad.
I have the comics that were based off the original screenplay, and I feel like they kinda go along this same kind of path you discussed here. They were only 8 issues I believe but they were really interesting.
If Episode III was Episode I, you wouldn't be able to see how close Obi-Wan and Anakin got and how their relationship grew and was demolished when Anakin turned to the Dark side. I love how they originally went.
As someone who's first movie was Episode 1 I loved it, but when I saw Episode 4 I was a little weirded out that the first thing I jump to was the battle ontop of Tattooine so maybe getting straight to Vader killing Jedi in Episode 1 would be confusing in the 2000's
That’s the beauty of rogue one. The Lucasfilm executives realized the same thing, so they made a movie to fill in the gap. Rogue one ends with the departure of Princess Leia in the corvette cruiser with the death Star plans looming large across space, all while Vader is watching from the docking clamp of the rebel flagship. It fits perfectly with the beginning of a new hope.
Does anyone remember the anticipation for episode 3 and what we thought would happen and the theories. There was a popular theory that Vader would be fighting alongside a 13 year old Bobafett (which didnt make much sense)wiping out the Jedi😂😂😂 to be fair old EU books used to mention Vader and Bobafett purging the Jedi but episode 2 made bobafett like 10 years old so that was out. But the clones helping vader wiping out the clone was close enough same dna.
I like what we got with the Prequel Trilogy, but I have been thinking a lot lately about what I would do next if I was in charge of Star Wars. After phasing out and/or canceling current Disney projects, I would (1) do a Darth Vader Duology that features Starkiller from Force Unleashed and (2) do an X-wing Rogue Squadron movie (series?) based on the novels by Michael Stackpole.
There is a whole story that is being addressed in some shows now, like Obiwan. The story of Vader at the height of his power...yes I read the graphic novels but something cinematic would be nice too. Better than a Rey film hands down.
I think a much better option would be to get rid of episode 1 and have episode 2 act as 1 start the movies with anakin as a Jedi knight and have episode 3 be Darth Vader making his saber going to his castle hunting down Jedi etc. then into the original trilogy
I saw the films 4,5,6 with my friend when her brother showed me, THEN almost immediately after the prequels came out, and I LOVED every second of them. In retrospect, we really don't need episode 1, enough of it is explained in episode 2, and I still like Clone Wars more than most...my order from best to least best is 3, 2, 6, 4, 1, 5....I know, I'm weird, hahaha
oha this book i know it too hehe. after the game for episode 3, george said : i now regret it that i did episode 4 before episode 3, because so i can`t show how strong vader on mustafar really is. we would have seen a much much stronger vader on mustafar if episode 4 isn`t made allready, so i`am glad that i can show a little what vader on mustafar is capable of in the game. i love the prequels how they are, i can imerse myself with anakin, even what he says and does. i was a young adult when they came out so i can relate too them more then when i saw episode 4 - 6 when i was 15 years earlier. and everytime i know see episode 1 - 6 i have goosbumps all over, i see knew stuff i haven`t seen before everytime thats how good they are even the dialoge for me. sadly i very very rarely have goosbumps with what disney has done with star wars, and if you have seen it once you have seen everything.
I’d like a combo of the two options. Have episode 1 be a combo of 1 and 2. Then episode 2 be what we got in 3. Then episode 3 can be Vader killing people and becoming the Vader we see in the original trilogy. For me there has to be some kind of backstory before he becomes Vader.
It would be an interesting take on the story if it did start with episode III. Form the sound of it, it reminds me of the John Wick series. I still having the background / backstory of the slow turn to the dark side is important to the overall series.
..ive always stood by and appreciated the prequals.. ..maybe 13-15 years ago, someone made a few recommendations, forget that they are Star Wars, forget the lore, lightsaberz, ships and characters, put the movies on and JUST LISTEN to the story.. ..dont watch.. ..I was intrigued and gave this a try.. ..this changed my entire perspective on the prequals.. ..and you are correct about episode 2.. ..its all magnificent, if you remove expectations and just enjoy..
I've grown to appreciate, and even like, the PT for what it is, it's potential, and what is, underneath all the flaws, a good story. That said, I do wish it had stayed truer to the dialogue in the OT -- Anakin was already a great pilot when Obi-wan met him, Leia remembers her "real mother" clearly, etc. So, if I were to alter the PT, I wouldn't make Ep. 3 the first PT movie followed by two Vader films. Rather, I would have the first movie take place when Anakin is older, during the clone wars. The second would deal with his decent into darkness (so, basically, RotS), and the third would show more post-Order 66 plot lines, including the scourge of Vader and the formation of the Rebellion. But, overall, I'm happy with what we have.
Agree about episodes one and two. I did like episode 2 and getting the clone wars cartoons also gilled in the story if Anakin. I can see wanting Starkiller that would be cool as a supplement to the tale of Vader
If the cut scenes which revealed more of the courtship of Anakin and Pad-me would have been kept, then episode 2 would be the equal of 4-6. The problem I had with Episode 1 is that George insisted on using the new digital cameras, they were not close to the top level film cameras. George will be known as the film maker that brought movies into the 20th century with high tech fun sound. And he will be known for starting the digital film era. All the Prequel movies look much better these days than when they were released. The 4k version of A New Hope looks great. George created the demand and pull the industry with him. With THX Sound he actually had movie theater owners red faced angry. Viewer demands made them change. Disney KK and the rest better learn from the past soon or it will be sold off piece by piece.
More Vader screen time would of been so much better are you kidding me he’s arguably the greatest villain in movie history, seeing Vader for 15 seconds of screen time is one of the greatest missteps ever.
Geoge Lucas should start from the beggining, making films about the old republic, the first sith's etc., and then when he reach Anakin time, remake the triology, but they will not do this.....
Rated R Vader stand alone movie, would be awesome. Full force power destruction and damage to him and his suit. Slicing through enemies and surviving. Plenty of stories writers could use. Violent and dark.
Out of the prequels, Episode II is the one I watched the most... I liked the Obi-Wan/Jango-Fett clone story... From my POV, George tried his best to make this middle movie like Empire..
Yo, I had no idea just how different the Star Wars film series would've been had George Lucas did took the story to show the marketing team way back when.
I think you needed to start with episode 2, let the relationship between Anakin and Obiwan start and grow and how the twins came to be without it being in a vacuum but you could definitely do without Episode 1. Episode 3 could be the same and then the follow up would be the rise of Vader and the Empire and the start of the Rebellion
It's very strange what George is saying. Very strange. Episode II is foundation of Anakin's development. What happened to him,he's with Padme, happy, they're laughing, falling in love. We see him angry, jealous. It's great. Episode III is fantastic! The Force will be with you too, always😀
There’s things I would change (Anakin’s killings, some plot holes, etc.), but the overall story and structure, the stuff George wanted to show us about Anakin’s life, I wouldn’t change. The PT, as is, is mostly in a good place.
I always like 2 and 3. The first one.. its not that I hate it.. its just I can do without seeing it usually. I know whats going on with it already and its a little jar jar overload for me. Even though I would say the probably one of the most rewatched saber fights I watch is duel of fates at the end of 1. I think the first trilogy was needed to happen on screen. Sure, I knew the before the movies lore that was changed around a bit but I knew the jist. But your average fan at the time? Not a chance. No youtube, no content creators, you either read those books and searched for those notes and tidbits on a terrible internet or rumor or you didnt know jack. So it was important to get it out to the masses. But it would have been really amazing to have a connecting trilogy between them with Lucus at the helm. One of those to be but not to be's things I guess.
I honestly don’t think it would’ve bothered us that much. I mean yeah, we can say something about it NOW because we have the prequels already, but if they did do it that way, and they executed it very well, then it would’ve actually been better than the prequels. That’s the thing, you have to stay objective with things when you don’t know how they would turn out. You wouldn’t miss what you didn’t know was there in the first place. So I’m open to knowing how these would’ve played out.
If Lucasfilm was actually competent and had passionate writers with great talent, we could do a Vader trilogy today thats set in between Ep 3 and 4 with Hayden Christiensen
When Darth Vader came through that doorway in his first appearance on screen, I did not care if he was robot, human, alien, or any mixture of the group. All I knew is he was badass! Now, hypotheticals aside, had George gotten his way and started the prequel trilogy with a variant of ROTS, we/YOU wouldn't have current episodes 1 & 2 to miss. They would not have existed. Having faith in George's storytelling is where you have to trust that would've gotten expositional flashbacks and dream sequences to give the audience what they NEED to know about Vader. Watching Vader carry out onslaughts that other Commanders may have failed at or ones that Palpatine specifically wanted him for would've been awesome. And here's why it would've worked better than anyone could possibly imagine. Society was shifting by that point. Late '70's, early '80's, we loved our heroes. The villains were just that: bad guys that needed to be brought to justice or eliminated entirely. Gradually, especially if it was made that we could empathize with the villain, people started to understand the villain's POV easier. Enter Vader. Just a complete badass. Completely overshadowing the Emperor. Didn't need to understand to accept the badassery, but humanizing him? That gave him support which is why he is now beloved.
Pacing in The Phantom Menace is something I'd punch up a bit, so it can go from a slow AF story to something more urgent. Same for ATTACK OF THE CLONES and I would have aged up Anakin into a young man in his teens in EPISODE 1and a 6yr old with a sassy attitude, and I would have kept him and Padme keep contact after EP.1 so can get this relationship with Padme. I think these plus other tweaks would have made EP.1&2 a bit better.
I think if they skipped or combined 1 and 2 somehow with either flashbacks or timehops, they could have gotten a solid foundation for anakin. He would be very likeable and the clone wars series would have really hashed it out, as it did. Then episode 2 would be his downfall how we got it with ROTS but extended and not having so much of Nick Gillard's content chopped off. The new episode 3 could hash out Vaders further fall into darkness, getting his new red saber, and killing Jedi and running his inquisitorious. Insert Rogue One and then episode 4 to tie back to 1977 and we still get all the best of the prequels, more detailed story of vaders full turn and less of jarjar content!
My biggest problem with episode 3 (which seems to be everyone's favorite prequel but for me its 2) is that originally, leading all the way to the VHS release of Episode 2, we were told that Darth Vader killed all the Jedi (save obviously Obi Wan and Yoda who had to hide on back water planets). C3PO says it in a little "story so far" segment in the VHS release of Episode 2. I feel like everyone forgot about the fact that Anakin was hyped up to have been such a boss level Jedi that he was able to essentially wipe them out once he goes dark side. Then instead we got Order 66 which, while certainly cool, really did lessen the impact of Vader. An odd change. I feel like Hal Jordan has a better "Vader story" then actual Darth Vader.
Episode II is my favorite of the prequels for many of the reasons you mentioned. The way they ended up presenting Anakin's story makes his redemption in Return of the Jedi hit so much deeper than it did before the prequels. When I look back at the prequels, my only real complaint is the pod racing scene. While it is an important part of the story, I think it drags on way longer than it needed to.
Did my top 40 favorite movies of all-time recently and then I slimmed it down to 20 to save space on my Z Flip3 because I want to put Dreamcast ROMs onto it. Recent re-edit for today - 1. Back to the Future Part II 2. Back to the Future 3. Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure 4. Maverick 5. Let it Ride 6. Casino 7. Goodfellas 8. Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood 9. The Big Lebowski 10. Hot Tub Time Machine 11. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels 12. The Shawshank Redemption 13. Elvis 14. Air 15. Kingpin 16. Dumb and Dumber 17. Some Like It Hot 18. History of the World Part I 19. Pulp Fiction 20. Django Unchained No Star Wars, MCU, Indiana Jones, and The Godfather made the cut. Mainly because I enjoy listening to my films while my phone screen is off. There are tons of action scenes in MCU, SW, and IJ, so I don't see them. Most of my favorites are geared towards comedy. Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit were tough cuts I had to make as well as Top Gun: Maverick which I watched 18x in the theater. Elvis did make my top 15 because I saw that 23x in the theater and since it's mostly Elvis music videos/concerts mixed together, it's highly listenable. I had tears coming out of my eyes from Top Gun: Maverick and Elvis. TG: M is a better version of A New Hope and The Force Awakens with no stupid planet killer. Sure, it's Navy propaganda like the 1986 original and there are some dumb Mission: Impossible moments in it. But it made me respect all military for sacrificing their lives for their nation and didn't try to be WOKE although it had a more diverse cast. The next 20... 21. The Hateful Eight 22. Jojo Rabbit 23. Thor: Ragnarok 24. There's Something About Mary 25. Dazed and Confused 26. Top Gun: Maverick 27. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 28. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom 29. The Empire Strikes Back 30. Revenge of the Sith 31. Avengers: Infinity War 32. A New Hope 33. Return of the Jedi 34. The Godfather 35. The Godfather Part II 36. Forrest Gump 37. Captain America: The Winter Soldier 38. Wild Hogs 39. Dumb and Dumber To 40. Back to the Future Part III Damn, I love a lot of those movies from #21-#40. I consider The Godfather I and II to be the GOATs of cinema. I'm aware Wild Hogs and Dumb and Dumber To aren't well received but I still adore those films. There's tons of movies I enjoy whether they're considered good or bad by critics. Wild Hogs used to be high on my list and in my top 20. The Last Crusade used to be in my top 15. Revenge of the Sith or Infinity War? That's almost like a coin toss for me. I consider Infinity War the best MCU film ever made over the more overrated and bloated Endgame from it's deus ex machina time travel shenanigans. It's a better film than ROTS but I have some bias towards ROTS since I saw it 3x in the same week and it holds a little more emotional weight. I couldn't even include Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Easy A, Fanboys, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, The Forbidden Kingdom, Operation Condor, The Goonies, The Sandlot, Real Steel, 8-Bit Christmas, Home Alone 1 & 2, She's Out of My League, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, Enter the Dragon, Gladiator, Braveheart, Troy, or any Spider-Man or Batman film in my top 40. Yes, no to The Dark Knight. Nolan films can be so slow, boring, and confusing. I rarely have the urge to rewatch a lot of Christopher Nolan's films. The Prestige is my 2nd favorite Nolan film and it doesn't make my top 100. I enjoy The Lord of the Rings films but they actually won't make my top 100 favs either. I've seen them a few times which includes the superior Extended Editions and that's about it. It's a franchise that I admire but I'm not into it like I'm not into Harry Potter. I did enjoy Civil War and Endgame but being such a big Iron Man fan, I don't enjoy watching him lose or die in it. I saw both multiple times in the theater but they don't give me that urge to rewatch them. And The Avengers in 2012 was amazing when I first saw it but it has pacing issues and the designs of their costumes became dated. There are movies I first enjoyed when they first came out like Face/Off but didn't remain my favorite as time passed. My all-time favorite animated film is The Emperor's New Groove and then the more common answer: The Lion King (1994). Yet, no animated film makes my top 100. Not Across the Spider-Verse either. I'm already burnt out from superhero content. The only animated stuff I tend to rewatch are Family Guy, Futurama, and Mike Judge's Beavis and Butt-Head. I prefer Family Guy from Season 2 through 4, Futurama's first 4 before Comedy Central and then Hulu, and the newer stuff for Beavis and Butt-Head. I went back to include Silicon Valley on my Z Flip3. And then I'm planning to put back Loki but in 1080p as I prefer it takes up the entire screen when played on the 1.9" cover display. Loki is the only MCU content for that phone. I'm aware Season 2 didn't receive scores as high as Season 1, but I absolutely adore the entire series. Everything from the characters to the music to the lighting is perfect. Natalie Holt needs to be applauded for her score. "He Who Remains", "TVA", and "Pruned" all sound epic. If Letterboxd asked me my four favorite films, it could change every day. Last night, it's Shawshank, Casino, Goodfellas, and BTTF2. Pulp Fiction used to be my No. 4 and Forrest Gump at No. 5 but they faded for me the last 8 years. Today, my four favorites are BTTF2, BTTF, Bill & Ted 1, and Maverick (1994). All I know is Back to the Future is my favorite IP of all-time. Way more rewatchable than Star Wars and MCU. I wouldn't love time travel content like Bill & Ted, Hot Tub Time Machine, and Loki without watching Back to the Future first. Griff Tannen: "Well! Since when did you become the physical type?"
Before the prequels were made many people thought that the new trilogy was going to be about Darth Vader and they assumed that it would include him and palpatine hunting down the Jedi. We didnt know at that time that most of his injuries came from one fight with Obi Wan. I thought that maybe the events of ep1 and ep2 could be condensed into one film and ep3 would be more about seeing Vader in the peak of his powers and it would take us closer to the start of the OT. But that may have been popular with fans of the OT, but it would not have been in keeping with the films being family friendly.
@Star Wars Theory I am very happy with the PT because it makes it more tragic in revealing how Anakin lost his innocence from his youth to the dark side. This would have been lost in the marketing version
Maybe even if it started from a proper Episode 2 onwards instead maybe? And maybe with partial critical scenes from the Clone Wars animation that fills up episode 2 bridging into episode 3?
I'm glad this marketing thing did not come to pass. We needed Episode 1 & 2 to establish the foundation of Anakin. I've really thought about what Anakin said to Padme on Mustafar about overthrowing the Emperor and ruling the galaxy together. What I really wish is that George would have made a standalone movie in about 2008-2012 taking place sometime after Episode 3 where he brought Hayden back with more Force visions of the past & Future and Vader trying to find a way to resurrect Padme through Dark Side power while secretly circumventing and plotting against Palpatine.
If any thing Ep 1 & 2 could have been condensed into 1 film with Ep 2 then being more CW/prime Anakin and Ep 3 staying the same. We would have seen more Anakin and his fall would have been that much more impactful
I like this take a lot. You even could’ve had episode 2 ending with the order 66 scene. Then leave the third film to include the second half of revenge of the sith and much of what the final four episodes of clone wars eventually gave us. Plus some extra Vader for good measure.
At the time of the release of the prequels, Lucas explained that Episodes 1 & 2 were stories that had to be told. Episode 1 shows us the perfect relationship between a Padawan and his Master. This example helped us to recognize Anakin’s flaws in Episode 2. Episode 2 shows us a highly flawed relationship a between Padawan and his Master. Many of Anakin’s actions would seem normal for a teenager, but we recognize them as being wrong for a Jedi. Episode 3 shows us the inner turmoil and conflict that has been building inside of Anakin come to a climax.
I always found Revenge of the Sith made the first two movies better on rewatches, it filled in some gaps and seeing Palpy's plans and schemes he was weaving all along (which also to me was the best part of the prequels, EVERYONE is his pawn in those movies)....it makes the two movies before it better and a more enjoyable experience!
I love the PT as it is because it’s so essential to the Anakin’s character arc. We couldn’t not have those 3. However I would have loved to see Vader storming the galaxy, that would have made him a much less sympathetic character and made his turn back to the light all that much stronger. I’d say make episodes 4,5,6 be episodes 7,8,9 and end ALL of it with Return of the Jedi. Then have episodes 4,5,6 evil Vader quests.
In my imaginary reworking of the prequel trilogy I would have condensed Ep 1 and 2 into 1 movie (or 1 movie and 1/4 of the next one) it starts at the cusp of the beginning of the Clone Wars, we have Anakin as he is in Ep 2 fighting alongside Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon (who's still alive but dies by the end of the movie); Anakin is already in a relationship with Padme and we get flashbacks through them talking about how they met, we see glimpses of him as a boy, podracing, etc. We see him being tormented by the visions he has, first of the night he tried to save his mother and then of Padme dying during childbirth) Then Ep 2 is a reworked Ep 3. Ep 3 is a reworking of Rogue One (though not exact) and a bit of the Obi Wan series (mainly the rematch from the final episode) but the point is it leads directly into Ep 4.
I have to say MORE VADER always MORE VADER. One of the greatest fictional characters ever created. So..I probably would have liked the alternate version more & I’m glad Theory is giving us MORE VADER !!
I’ve said before that the fireplace scene in attack of the clones is the only thing holding the movie back. But you can’t really take that scene out because it’s important to the rest of the story
Episode 1 should have been some kind of mix of TPM and AOTC (Anakin starts out as a teenager). Episode 2 should have been basically what ROTS was. Episode 3 should have been Vader hunting down Jedi among other things.
I really enjoy your videos, I, like you only consider George’s work as true Star Wars. It would be cool to see more Vader storylines, but the prequels had an amazing story that had to be told to truly understand the fall of the Jedi and rise of the Empire.
Not everyone likes world-building in movies. But those who do, REALLY appreciate it. And those who don’t get bored and say “this sucks”. Similar issue with Lord of the Rings.
The ONLY thing i would have changed would be making Anakin a little older in episode I and having him played by Leonardo Dicaprio. We needed to see young innocent Anakin to really show the journey of who he became. No disrespect to Hayden but Leonardo’s emotional range would have taken the story telling to the next level.
His own actions led to her death. He fulfilled his vision
They're really not. The prequels really highlighted how arrogant and incompetent the Jedi were and TCW multiplied by a million.
@@vintifada7115because the Force is a dick and never shows the whole picture

@@rebekah.2187 the only thing significant to understanding how he went dark is that he was a slave, then almost everybody he knew since he was 10 treated him like he already was evil because they couldn't brainwash him as a baby. I’ve personally never had a problem with episode II, it’s always nice to see this movie get the love and appreciation it deserves.
It was my favourite in my childhood. I’ve watched my vhs with it so many times that it got broken and I bought a new one!)
Attack of the Clones is brilliant, even for an adult
It’s my favorite of the Prequels 😅 Jango’s my favorite character in all of SW too

@@josegonzalezgonzalez3486 the Phantom menace is a great film, even for an adult imho
They deleted so many necessary and good scenes from the PT
I think the overall arc of the PT is important and its hard for me to imagine how an arc of equal satisfaction would be made without showing what they did. The OT showing Vader's fall and the PT showing his rise, strikes me as the perfect symmetrical arcs that resonate together and build on each other better than anything else could have.
Tragedy, Redemption, and (the sequels attempt at) Legacy
@@vintifada7115 Perfectly said. It's really such a shame that trifecta was botched the way it was. It could have been such a beautiful thing. At least we can still appreciate the legacy in the EU.

I think it’s uncharitable for me on an enjoyment or quality basis to say it’s as a whole not good.
Disney already butchered it too bad
You know how old he is right?
@@GoldenJackalTutorialYou are correct to some extent Disney unfortunately is only about profits not so much about representation and fan base wants.
Also, please Star Wars theory, make what if Anakin Skywalker was trained by the force itself like you did, with many what if scenarios?
Agreed
I love episodes 1-6. Everything you said about attack of the clones is so on point. I had that movie on repeat one week when I was sick. I felt it really did give you so much story behind Anakin
"The making of Star Wars Revenge of the Sith."
Now all we need is "A complete transcription of the 2012 treatments for Episode 7, 8, and 9, by George Lucas."
I wouldn’t have wanted a completely different prequel trilogy, but I did want more of the clone wars in Ep. 2 and more Vader vs. Jedi in Ep. 3. We never really got to see him help “the empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights”.
I’m glad the first 3 movies came out the way they did. George Lucas had the right idea
When I was younger waiting on episode 3 to come out i alway thought we would see Vader in his suit executing the Jedi purge thats what i most looked forward to. I remember the old message boards theorizing and discussing it. But we got what we got still a great movie and my personal favorite starwars movie
Same brother
I was let down lol
Oof. Unfortunately expecting something specific for no reason other than speculation led to some people’s disappointment
Sounds amazing. I'd just combine episodes 1 & 2 together into a condensed one, episode 3 would be the new episode 2 and then the new episode 3 would be about vader and setting him up as the villain for original trlogy
Wow. I just wrote pretty much the same thing before reading your comment.
There is a ten year time gap in between episodes 1 and 2 so that would not work
Damn I love this type of content. Eff all the Disney drama. Lucas Star Wars is where it's at and I love his insight and BTS kind of stuff
I'm glad we got it the way we did to be honest, at one time I did really dislike the Phantom Menace, but I do like it a lot more now, not sure if my dislike of the sequel trilogy made me like it more, but perhaps so.
I like them the way they are. We do need some more content from 3 to Rogue One that focuses on Darth Vader. Those would have been some good movies.
Funny bit of info: When my dog is ready to go in or out, she paces back and forth in front of the door like Darth Maul does when he's waiting for the sheilds to drop. I should have named her Maulie. 🤣 🍻🤘
We've already seen a "marketing company's" take on Star Wars. Clearly it wouldn't have worked.
I could rant all day about The Phantom Menace and it’s themes/characters.
in my opinion, the reasons people give for phantom menace being bad is bs
The Phantom Menace is my favorite of the prequels. While there are things in it I don’t particularly like, and things I would change, it does have a kind of magic to it (And I’m an original “been there in 1977” fan.) Attack of the Clones is so boring, and Revenge of the Sith is rushed and has elements that don’t jive with established lore which bugs me.
i absolutely love phantom menace man. i rewatched all star wars a few days ago(not sequels ofc lol) and was shocked by how good TPM is
Phantom menace was amazing. The hate is crazy imo
The marketing way... Seeing Vader be unleashed alongside Sidious
More Vader!!!! Guaranteed if a Vader movie was and is made it would be the best one outta all and the most viewed outta all
Does anyone remember the anticipation for episode 3 and what we thought would happen and the theories.
Anakin & the 501st during Order 66 🔥.
Theory, great video! I totally agree with you about Episode II. I know the film has its critics but I nevertheless love it.
I actually wish they released an unedited version of ROTS on blue ray
There is a whole story that is being addressed in some shows now, like Obiwan. The story of Vader at the height of his power...yes I read the graphic novels but something cinematic would be nice too. Better than a Rey film hands down.
I think a much better option would be to get rid of episode 1 and have episode 2 act as 1 start the movies with anakin as a Jedi knight and have episode 3 be Darth Vader making his saber going to his castle hunting down Jedi etc. then into the original trilogy
Episode 1 should have been a prequel to the prequels like a companion book like the Hobbit was to the Lord of the Rings
The entire Saga episodes 1 through 6 and absolute Masterpieces, especially the PT but I love the all! All six movies are PERFECT they way they are.
..ive always stood by and appreciated the prequals..
..maybe 13-15 years ago, someone made a few recommendations, forget that they are Star Wars, forget the lore, lightsaberz, ships and characters, put the movies on and JUST LISTEN to the story.. ..dont watch..
..I was intrigued and gave this a try..
..this changed my entire perspective on the prequals..
..and you are correct about episode 2..
..its all magnificent, if you remove expectations and just enjoy..
1 through 6 is all a tumultuous roller-coaster of Anakin's emotions. That's what Star Wars is about.
I love episode 2. It's got so much detail important to the story
I cannot imagine if there was any release difference
Some people already complain that Anakin turned too quickly, imagine what they would say if there was only one movie to explain his fall.
See TFA and TLJ to see what happens 😂
Geoge Lucas should start from the beggining, making films about the old republic, the first sith's etc., and then when he reach Anakin time, remake the triology, but they will not do this.....
Rated R Vader stand alone movie, would be awesome. Full force power destruction and damage to him and his suit. Slicing through enemies and surviving. Plenty of stories writers could use. Violent and dark.
Out of the prequels, Episode II is the one I watched the most... I liked the Obi-Wan/Jango-Fett clone story... From my POV, George tried his best to make this middle movie like Empire..
This sounds like it would’ve been a great idea for kenobi, but to replace the PT? Nah.
Bravo! And btw, I love episodes 1 and 2. 1 is one of my favorite SW. 2 is on of my favorite sw-eye-candy. And I love the way 4-6-1-3 develop. Genius
We need an Order 66 movie.
Episode 2 is the only movie i saw 5 times in the cinema when it got released and every time got applause at the end.
It was all perfect the way it was. Plus we got even more with TCW, Rebels, Bad Batch and books as well.
We did get to see him go up against kids. That's cooler, right ?........right ?
@@allenniumfalcon only the most chad movie villain moment for sure
Episode II is my favorite of the prequels for many of the reasons you mentioned. The way they ended up presenting Anakin's story makes his redemption in Return of the Jedi hit so much deeper than it did before the prequels.
When I look back at the prequels, my only real complaint is the pod racing scene. While it is an important part of the story, I think it drags on way longer than it needed to.
Wouldn't mind seeing this concept explored as a fan film
Did my top 40 favorite movies of all-time recently and then I slimmed it down to 20 to save space on my Z Flip3 because I want to put Dreamcast ROMs onto it.

No Star Wars, MCU, Indiana Jones, and The Godfather made the cut.
21. The Hateful Eight
22. Jojo Rabbit
23. Thor: Ragnarok
24. There's Something About Mary
25. Dazed and Confused
26. Top Gun: Maverick
27. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
28. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
29. The Empire Strikes Back
30. Revenge of the Sith
31. Avengers: Infinity War
32. A New Hope
33. Return of the Jedi
34. The Godfather
35. The Godfather Part II
36. Forrest Gump
37. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
38. Wild Hogs
39. Dumb and Dumber To
40. Back to the Future Part III
Damn, I love a lot of those movies from #21-#40.
@LordFleaBottom Always interesting seeing people's favorite films.
You have probably answered this but do you like the Imperial Timeline shows/movies or Republic Timeline shows/movies?
Maybe even if it started from a proper Episode 2 onwards instead maybe?
And maybe with partial critical scenes from the Clone Wars animation that fills up episode 2 bridging into episode 3?
The Obi-Wan Series should have been about Obi searching for holocrons in many epic locations
We would have never got to see the back story of Jar Jar Binks or Anakin explaining how much he hates sand. That would be unacceptable.
keep up the good work! I think they could add in the starkiller arc as a cannon event in-between 3 and four, would be really cool!
I think that's what Theory is essentially doing with his Vader movies.
Great video theory
None of this would happen. I think George meant the marketing team would have rushed it for the sake of the action
Episode 1 should have been some kind of mix of TPM and AOTC (Anakin starts out as a teenager).
Episode 2 should have been basically what ROTS was.
Episode 3 should have been Vader hunting down Jedi among other things.
Having an Episode of Vader in his prime was sorely missed.
I don't often agree with Theory, but this time I do. I also love Episode II. I saw it in the theater 22 times when it came out.
I really enjoy your videos, I, like you only consider George’s work as true Star Wars. It would be cool to see more Vader storylines, but the prequels had an amazing story that had to be told to truly understand the fall of the Jedi and rise of the Empire.
Great breakdown on Episode 2 and Anakin's happy period.
I’d love to see a stand alone video of Vader just destroying things.
Bro Hayden has range watch him in life as a house he’s phenomenal it was just Lucas dialogue and cutting through scenes too fast.
Loved the prequels as they are
