Newbie question, why rivets instead of a small nut and bolt? When do you choose rivets in general over bolts? They just seem too permanent and a PiA to take back out. Also, the M12 rivet gun any good?
In this instance the rivets were quicker and cheaper, also they are aluminium/aluminum so might last a bit longer. Also I didn’t have any short bolts so there would have been a lot of cutting. Generally I find them handy enough to drill out as they’re soft so wouldn’t worry too much about them being too permanent. Their great advantage is being able to use them where you’ve no access to the rear. And they’re very cheap in comparison to nuts and bolts. Also very quick to install. As regards the M12 rivet gun, beauty of a tool. Wish I’d had one years ago. Well spotted.
