The game has improved a lot since then. There are new buildings for Sparta, new cavalry with beautiful animation and new horse models, servants for siege machines, with new animations and sound. new animals and maps, and a new civilization: The Kushites from Nubia (ancient Sudan)...and much more is to come...People should'nt be so hasty to judge an unfinished game...
One of the amazing things about this game is its performance. It's pretty light weight, starts up and loads really fast. Wondering why other games with similar graphics take much longer!
if you read real history the thing is all the elephants of hannibals died crossing the alps its was jsut the fear they might have them from previous beatings hannibal gave romans in gaul
"They could sneak in behind which could be a problem. but i don't think they'll do that" The fact that you are up against the Persians makes this even better.
There is a high chance for there to be a catch... Nobody takes the time to develop a game for 17 years and not want to be rewarded for it. It would be better if they just went full time on developing it and putting a price tag on it... I wouldn't be half a suspicious as i am now.
Hi Cyka, the catch is that more than 150 people have contributed to the game over the years who come and go, though at any given time there are maybe 15-25 people who could be considered actively developing. A lot of the art I did is still in the game or has been improved upon by others.. Many use the experience to learn game development skills, gain valuable experience, or just plain work on a project they actually have a passion for. The team started as a successful modding group for Age of Empires 2, the project is a homage to that game, and has always attracted people who like to tinker with or create games. The game is in continuous alpha stages because the team does not want to close the door to more development and and there are bugs and performance issues that are challenge to fix. We'd like the project to remain open source and available to anyone who wants to contribute.
The reason why this game is free it was made by enthusiast linux users who were part of the Free Software Foundation. Free as in liberty, meaning they oppose all proprietary software. That's the game is so good and yet completely. Unfortuantely people assume it's some freeware garbage.
This game reminds me of "Empire Earth" a lot. Lol I still have that game and the expansion pack. :D👍 I had everyone working on trees, gathering stone and food, but I made sure there was always some ppl working on trees and stone and food and making an army. :D
As in Age of Mythology for the Norse I like Warriors to build, but I'm really not sure about them gathering resources. As seen in the video there are a lot of panic moments, on which you call your economy to the front line. Having spearmen as dedicated economy seems also wasteful, since in RTS civilian units are usually somewhat cheaper. Still not convinced on the collecting workers.
The game could definitely use hotkeys if it doesn't have them (all army, control groups and selecting all of one type of unit) to help with those panic moments. While maybe warrior-gatheres will turn out to not be a good mechanic i feel like it's definitely worth exploring since it changes the usual rock/paper/scissors characteristic of economy/offense/defense (making civilians would still make for a better economy, or at least we can guess so but it depends on the exact numbers since nook did mention that they were worse at gathering non-food resources; but it would be less punishing to make warriors when perhaps not needed). It would also change economy harassment and maybe map control. However all in all i don't think a "small" game should be focused towards multiplayer since it's unlikely to catch on, specially one that's in development for a long time probably won't have a big enough player base for it and going back to the working warriors it can make for interesting different scenarios/campaign modes. I wouldn't say i'm convinced either but i deffinitely think it's an interesting twist to the norm that might turn out to be good or bad (or neither).
its to represent how military was back then, majority of soldiers were levied workers. so all your soldiers also secondary as economy when you aren't currently fighting or pushing as well. there is professional soldiers in the game that can not work though and have a fairly high iron cost but are extremely effective.
Walls are there only to get you time and allow you to gather your army and get it sorted out before the enemy just rush inside your base and starts fucking shit up
true historical accuracy, Semi-Auto Crossbows were invented around 200AD, which was based and improved upon a crossbow design dated around 220BC, Google Chukonu before you call me bluff, and if you wanted to see how those weapons were probably used back in the time, youtube "hero arrow rain"
Looks like a pretty solid game. Reminds me of Empire Earth and Rise of Nations... more than Age of Empires. Except for the passing through ages part of course.
Well, AoE 3 came after both the games I mentioned. The aesthetic, terrain and especially the high vertical differences instantly reminded me of EE. Rise of Nations was the first (maybe only) real time strategy I've seen with the territory feature. Also the specialized workers.
Hey, Nookrium, are you Welsknight? If you are not, I must say, that you both have the same voice and same accent... lol... That's amazing... 8^) (if you are, it's nice to know you have an alternative channel here in RUclips)
It is difficult for the enemy to attack immediately. The Spartan soldiers are understandable, but the need for Xiongnu's war appearance is unknown. It's an annoying OAD.
I have a question me and my friend were both playing in the "player lobby" together. She created the game. We played for some hours then we both saved and logged of...how to we continue playing? It's all very confusing.
I remember buying the first beta version I guess. It was so laggy if you move 5 or more units at once and it goes ape shit if you put anymore than fast
Do people know that the day hasn't 24 hours? Do people know the year hasn't 365 days? What makes a litre of water a litre of water? That are about the same statements as the one above; The way that humans see the world is of course simplified and we use artificial measurements so we can comprehend the world better, especially if we are not experts in a field. So in that way, 0 A.D. existed and exists, but I guess your point was that no one that lived at that time was calling it that way (or that way in their language to be more precise).
I tried this game, it is good and all if you like age of mythology/AoE games but 0AD currently runs like shit. What I mean is: everything is ok till min 30 or so when your population starts growing, game crashes and stutters horribly at some point. This happens in 1v1, if u go 2v2 or something the same happens but faster.
pastuh just dug that game up again recently, it's a blast. Didn't realize it wasn't that popular, I never hear mention of it and the few videos about it have very little views
I feel so lazy in this game. I'm always just like "Fuck it, I'm too lazy and I haven't figured out how to pause. Women workers are going to be the bulk of our military fodder along with our resource collectors".
Have you tried Empire Earth, its a game very similar to this and Age of Empires(its actually made by one of the producers of AoE). You should give it a try. Game: ee.theroyalchampions.in/downloads.html Multiplayer Servers: www.neoee.net/ (Activision closed the servers back in 2008, but the community bought them back!) Hope you like it! If you need help installing it or questions about the game feel free to ask!
While it might be a shameless AOE clone, it's actually not that bad. I wonder why they didn't just market the game normally. Seems a little too good to be opensource. Or is it due to the fact that it is opensource that it is so polished ?
'0 A.D. is completely downloadable at no cost and always will be. No “freemium” model, no in-game advertising, no catch. This is our iron-clad guarantee.' The developers simply believe that it should be open-source. I love it, means that anyone can play, there is no price barrier, and anyone can get involved in the game's development too (just file a bug report or submit a patch (the latter if you know how to code)).

But is it still the case that the Romans speak Latin amd everyone else speaks Koine Greek?
This game is so underrated
One of the amazing things about this game is its performance. It's pretty light weight, starts up and loads really fast. Wondering why other games with similar graphics take much longer!
It's all about memory management.
"we have to cross the alps to kill people", "i want war elephants" ... i know where this is going

@@CMXTusilos thank you for that.

Age of Mythology Nostalgia coming in right now
Ikr?
Although, some features are different. All of the soldiers can gather wood and build, like the Norse
"They could sneak in behind which could be a problem. but i don't think they'll do that" The fact that you are up against the Persians makes this even better.
Wow! This game has progressed very well since I last played it years ago. Looks very shiny now. :)
I like the look of this and would not mind seeing more of it.
I remember watching my uncle play this game when I was younger. I never knew the name until now, thank you
Free?! Impressive!
and opensource
Free as in freedom and in price.
@@human_bing free as in freedom and free as in beer
This is actually impressive. Thank you for sharing. Downloading now.
You can't stop playing without defeating your enemies!
AWEEESOME, I loved this game! Great to see how far it's sort of gone.
Started in 2001
its 2018
its still Alpha only
It will come out by early 22nd century at this pace.
There is a high chance for there to be a catch... Nobody takes the time to develop a game for 17 years and not want to be rewarded for it.

Cyka Master don’t be suspicious. it’s under the GPL license meaning it’s free FOREVER. the license prohibits them from charging for it
If it's free then I am tempted to play it . @@cykamaster2520

This is like a age of empires game with age of empires 3 graphics, the map and the 3d camera all seems like it
Man how have I never heard of this, it looks freaking awesome!
Looks great, can't wait to buy the finished version!
Hahahahahahahha
you don't have to buy it, you can never buy. it's completely free, 0AD only wants you to install and try it out.
Watched this for 6mins already twice as long as my matches last befor a crash.

Your soldiers have Swastikas on their shields ;D 21:50 you can see
and yes I know the Swastika is a historical symbol that dates back to BCE
Swastikas are still used as holy symbols in India by many Hindus, they are a common sight here in India ; )
I want this game to be finished so badly. It really makes me feel nostalgic.
Elephants on the Alps? Nothing could go wrong.
Warriors being able to work seems like a very interesting change though.

Elepehants on the alps. Lol
My Empire earth nostalgia was so strong that I got seizures watching this.
Awesome, I was hoping this would make your list. =)
Keep going! Would love to see a series!
I'm not familiar with indian history, but this architecture is beautiful. Reminds me of the aesthetics they put on High Elves.
I remember the trailer
I am in regret for not getting it when it came out
Really like this game, especially since they added Mauryans.
A new Age Of Empires , cool !
And better
Itst actually a AOE 2 mod that become it's own thing
Kinou Rive just what I was thinking!
Never heard of this game before. And it's free to play. Thank you very much!
I had a feeling you'll want to check this one out :)
The thing about No Noney November is that you can like advertise free games and those also with No Noney (in November) can download these games
I thought it was no fee November
Nah (m) nate, its No Noney November
but noney sounds quite weird compared to no fee guess it does not really matter but eh
Looks like a lot of fun! I will deffinitely play this game. Can you multiplay with friends?
they dont even have a wall, oh wait, neither do you, because you rush your units out to fight right in front of it...real good strategy....
Walls are there only to get you time and allow you to gather your army and get it sorted out before the enemy just rush inside your base and starts fucking shit up

Yea but they couldnt have been as powerful as a typical crossbow, them things took a lot to wind up...
Elephants crossing mountains isn't the best idea but in history it has worked. Once.
Hannibal attempted it correct?

Maybe they'll make like an extension something like 1700 AD or 1800 AD or before like 1000 AD
came for the musik.
You know? I think I played this game when I was a kid.

why dont they take the cossacks or american conquest engine and make it to the ancient world?? that would roooock

They speak the same language but the voice actors are different.
Online or offline.....
I hate his building placements lol
Does it require internet connection to play?
Nope, but you can do multiplayer over the internet if you want.
If they can bring it to the Mobile gaming then more can play it. Since most do play games like this while at work and anywhere really.
I agree, it would be great on mobile
need bernockulers to read the fine print
nice seems interesting enough
You sound just like Ssohpkc Seamus !! :)
i dont know how to donload
Looks better than AOE4.Its vapourware at the moment. My old fave game.

This game is lot like Rise of nations!
Suma no it's not
Year 2017 :D
is this a mod for aom?
It's not, no, it was originally a mod for AoE II but developed its own game engine so now it's its own standalone game.
I want to know if someone knows a game like this one for android (I mean, that is not for turns or like Lord's mobile that you have to go to castles and the battling like in another place... I mean a game exactly like this that is battling an AI at real time ore some thing like that)
It seems more fun than Age 3.
What kind of idiot builds the barracks right by the entrance to the fort where it can be quickly destroyed in the first go???
So its a reskinned AoE? Or am I missing something?
It's a bit like AoE yeah, but it's completely free and open-source and uses its own game engine (it was originally an AoE II mod).
