The mission where Driver finally gets revenge on that cursed speed cam!
1:56 "Ooh, funky jazz line"
2:48 "Another one?"
3:14 *DOOT MODE ACTIVATED*
I was watching an analysis that was called "When Ubisoft Wanted an Ace Combat" that told that the reason of why Ace Combat "worked" instead of falling off like other arcade flight games was, in short, "strong narrative, ordinance, and responsive controls".
I agree with that. But he ommited a big factor: the music.
I bet someone can come and say PW's OST it's more or less "over-average" casual arcade instrumental music with electronic sparkles here and there, because it might not be as complex/had the production resources as something like Armored Core 6, Final Fantasy, you name it. Hearing this in the void, without playing the game, they might be right.
Yet, when you play or even see the game, this song kicks... Different.
You don't feel it's an arcadey-feel-good music anymore. You feel like a pilot doing the coolest shit a pilot could do, fighting against all odds and yet coming on top of that. No fucks for realism, physics or even logic given: you just get inside PW's world in an instant.
Just try to play PW without Jose Pavli's music; the experience just falls off. I don't know much about music design, but I can recognize this right here it's straight good game design: The music helps to sell a solid narrative, and that solid narrative itself (hand in hand with game kinestetics) pays back giving meaning to the song. Just look at the first mission of F59 and tell me that, knowing that you were going to the Bering Strait furball, when you saw the Cascadian Mercs breaking into magadan airspace, chasing the tails of straggled C-17's and PK squads, you DIDN'T felt a strike of lightning in your nerves when the music kicked in with the "Showdown" leifmotiv. Tell me if you have felt that strike of lightning with no song over it.
The music smooths the experience, and the experience gives meaning to the music. It's a virtuous circle that lots of games aren't able to pull off, even with all resources of the world. That's something that can only be archieved with love, because without love for what you are doing, you just can't get obsessed enough to studying the shit out of what you are doing and get to know where's the stuff that matters.
My congratulations to Jose Pabli and PW's dev team. You have grew so much in these months and it shows here. You guys are the top reference for arcade flight sims, at least for me. Not even Ace Combat has been able to pull these kind of feelings out of me, and I played that game since I has been 7. Would have loved to be a backer in PW's and Dawn aerowar kickstarter campaign.

@@JosePavli Truly, what he said. Every time I listen to new music from you, my opinion of your work increases.
I hope you get to do more work with live orchestras. That performance with the London Pops was amazing. Nothing like, what, around 60 instrumentalists and 20 singers to bring out the best in already great music. I heard the first few notes and got an instant smile on my face. Damn this is good. I've not heard the rest of the album yet, but I'm almost sure this track will be my favorite.
Ohhhh the trumpets! This is fantastic.

Just when I was wondering "How the hell can this get any better?" The frigging trumpet solo comes in at the end haha! This was amazing Jose, your best work yet.
I've had a huge smile on my face all the way through the first listen as the hype builds through the piece.
Shame I can't play it but this track alone is worth the £1000 buy in!
This honestly feels like dance music rather than something for a game about air combat
Gat damn, that trumpet from no where is perfect for those Area 88 vibes.
3:00 POV you made it into the tunnel and youre still alive
I lost my sanity from this mission.
Vita: "Ok Driver, you just had to go trough the tunnel carefully and reach the enemy base"
Drive: "Ok go maximun speed like this is f-zero meanwhile listening to this banger"
Vita: "No no dont do it... and there it goes"
Codd and Eye-Tee: "Come on lets go Driver"
Brick: "Kids this days"
Bookie: "Ihope we dont have to clean Driver from the walls..."
Nahh, Eye-Tee was scared as fuck
F-Zero seems good especially with F-Zero 99 releasing but I think Mario Kart, especially something like 8/8 deluxe would be a better fit for this song.
Whilst it doesn't sound like any specific game, this captures the vibe of the arcade machines I fed far too much of my parents' money into in the 90s perfectly. It could be in Bust a Groove, or Air Combat 22, or Sega Super GT, it would just fit and it's a real banger. Thank you for your work Mr Pavli!
Kudos to the guy in the yacht, guess he didn’t learn from sawaiiki
oh my god, Pavli strikes again. I thought the base PW soundtrack was great, this is getting awesome.
Love how much more electronic the Federation music is compared to the Merc's more orchestral.
The federation theme is somewhat orchestral, initially using heavy brass for that powerful tone
This hit harder than a Cordium warhead! AAA work as always, Jose!
"Yeah what'd I say man, This guy can cook!"

Best music for a techie hitching a ride with a taxi driver and then freaking out when the driver starts doing some _really_ insane shit!
I'd like to believe this OST came out of Driver's personal playlist.
This whole album is absolute FIRE. I mean, so was the original, but holy shit, lightning in a bottle twice!
Now we've got Federation's version of Showdown?
the feds have 2 versions of showdown. this is perhaps better than showdown, while the other one is slightly worse than Showdown (but still incredible)
