Thank you sir. Your videos in general, and this one specifically just let me build my first computer! I'm so excited!
Just to make sure you know, what makes you great is how slow you go. Other people rip through the installation. Getting the time to see what cables you have in your hand, the tips you give on what's useless or not, that's where your value shines. You actually take the time, every time, to explain things like we know nothing, which I didnt.
Thank you so much for being so patient in your videos, even though you've done it all so many times!

The number one key in building your own machine & the best tip i ever got was to take your time. Carey says this in many of his build vids...enjoy the build process. There is so much information out there if you would happen to get stuck.

Hey Carey I am an old hillbilly out of the hills of N.E. Ga. I watched this video more times than I care to mention. First time I saw this was about a year and a half ago. I started looking for the mother board first. So I happened upon this fellow who had one for sale. Motherboard, I5 chip and the fan for $100. For me buying used electric stuff is like pissing on a electric fence. You never know what your going to get. But he did give me his word that it worked. And if I was not happy with it he would refund my money. He went as far as to say IF I needed help to call him. Took me a while to get some memory, SSD hard drive and case and a Corse Air power supply. Not so long ago my main computer, the power supply went out taking with it the motherboard. My nephew built if for me back around 2013. He moved on some years back an I could not stand to throw out the old computer case. So I used it for this build even though I had bought a new Corse Air 200. So once again I watched your video while building this Skylake computer. I had two things that stressed me. One was putting the heat sink paste on the chip and fan. But I did watch you in another video explaining how to do that, so it was not all that bad. Had a hell of a time getting the fan pushed into the mother board. I did as you said took my time and did Not force anything. This old computer case some of the wires were not labeled. I took my time and traced where each wire went and matched up the slots. And it worked out. After I got it all put together I was as nervous as a long tail cat on porch of rocking chairs. I flipped the switch and Nothing happened. God I was mad. Then I realized the power strip was not turned on. I flipped that switch and pushed the power button on the computer and it came to life. I gave it a minute or two and the screen lit up. Checked the bios. Then I got my windows 10 installed. And went to youtube and played a few video's. And it works, the video the sound everything works even played a DVD. The biggest thing this will be used for is some video editing. I got some new video capture equipment ordered. So I will see how that works once it gets here. I know you have been told this before but in this case it is true, I could Not have done this with out your help. And I do Thank You !. In the past I have changed out a hard drive, a DVD rom and perhaps memory. As far as building a New build, Never considered it. I did try and build one from old junk parts. As best I could tell the mother board came out when Windows XP was around. It could not handle Windows 10. And I was Not going to spend $100 for a copy of XP. So when I started this new build I was a bit nervous.
I got to tell you, when it came to life, Damn that made me feel good. I want to build another one. A new one with all new everything. A new more up to date computer, guess what I already have the case. The only things I did not include in this build was the graphic card, the Evga GTX 980, be nice to have but not sure I need it. And I did not install a wifi card. All together I have about $300 invested. I was not sure about the mother board, so to start out I only got 8 gigs of ram. Since I did not use the Corse Air case I was not sure you wanted a video. Anyways thanks again.

I also admit that i enjoy just watching the videos. I always pick up some tidbit of knowledge I may have missed earlier. I really enjoyed that long pause where nothing seemed to be happening. We have all gone through that Oh Oh moment many times. Makes that moment of triumph even sweeter when the system does initialize and boot. But that sinking feeling is hard to describe unless a builder has gone through it. Thanks again for another great video!

Thank you so so much - I was very nervous about getting the power pins in the right way around and your description of whethter positive and negative matter etc was very reassuring given how much these things cost. And even tho i could have done it on my own it was just so reassuring to watch you do it and then repeat. What started out as an attempt to add a M2 Intell 600p 512GB SSD to my GIgabyte 55P motherboard has resulted in an $850 rebuild but it was going to have to happen at some stage. Thanks again! Time well spent.

+Steve Bolio that is awesome to teach your kid how to. But that is very great to hear! one less lazy person in this generation! :D

I've gone crazy. I'm building my first computer using mostly this build except with a 4.0 Skylake and a watercooler. And instead of the 4 tetrabyte WD, I went with a 1 T EVO Samsung drive. And the Corsair 450D case.
    Cost - $1900.
Edit: 05.18.2016 - I watched the whole video. Excellent. My build is about to begin, but after watching your video, I need another SATA cable since my build is very similar to this. I'm going to go to the local microcenter to get the cable.

I just wanted to say, thank you Carey Holzman. I just built this computer, except for the following changes:
    1. 16 instead of 32 Ram
    2. WD 4 TB changed to 250 EVO Samsung SSD
    3. Blue ray 14 instead of 16 - they made a mistake and I decided to just make them refund the difference.
    4. CPU is 4.0 instead of 3.4
    5. Watercooler Corsair H80IGT - it is the 80 and it is the GT is all I know.
    6. Corsair 450D Obsidian Case.
Problems I ran into but not because you steered me wrong.
    1. I bought the wrong SATA cable and had to go back and get the SATA 3 instead of 2.
    2. My front fan wasn't working. I had it plugged in incorrectly.
    3. Struggled mightily getting the two fans and radiator correctly placed.
    4. Well, I messed up on my wires placement and probably need to clean it up more than most people.
Everything worked pretty much except the one fan and it was corrected pretty quickly. When the motherboard booted up, I was so relieved.
Thanks again. I did not video any of it, but I took about 15 pictures. I am thinking of putting them in a video and narrating it. If I do, I'll send you the video. If I don't I'll send you the pictures.
Oh, and I watched more than one of your videos and also watched the one you did on watercooler installation. I think I overbuilt, because I'm not overclocking, but I wanted something that I wouldn't be wanting to replace in 4-5 years.

The SATA 3 and SATA 2 cables are the same - all just SATA. Noticed, he reused an old cable? He did't said "make sure it is SATA 3". Rule of thumb - if cables are incompatible - they change the connector shape!
BTW A guy did a speed test "just to make sure", google it if you like, using both "SATA 2 cable" and SATA 3 cable", and he got exact same speed.

I am no expert, but the sata 2 cables did not work. I tried them and tried them. They did not plug in.
When I got the sata 3 cables, it worked like a charm.

After watching the video I felt confident enough to build the Skylake computer with a couple of changes. I am using a 250 Gig Samsung SSD and a 1 TB WD HDD. This thing is super quiet and super fast! I am not a techie but had no trouble with the build. I installed Windows 10 full version. I don't know how to have downloads go to the HDD though. I am afraid that my SSD will fill up. I hope you do a video on how to do this. I built my old computer about 8 years ago and wanted to have the latest. Thanks for the videos!

I have just built my computer following this video, must have missed the bit where you installed the cable for the cpu. Anyway I installed it. Couldn't work out what to do with the PCI cable until I watched this, as I am just using onboard graphics and sound for awhile. My computer restarted itself about 3 times before finding anything, also even though I have the exact same motherboard, I had to press F12 to get to the same screen, hitting DEL did nothing except make me think my keyboard wasn't working at first... This is the second computer I have built last one about 8 years ago. Stocked when it turned on and worked...

    Hello Carey,
Always nice to see you build a computer and explain it for people who are new to it so compliments. But maybe it is an idea with a next build to explain a bit more about the new NVME ssd's. Here in the Netherlands especially the Samsung 950 Pro is getting very populair also with the not pro users. I guess that this is the same in America but I am not sure about that so maybe an interesting item for one of coming video's.
    Greetings from Roel.

Gary--Big kudos for going into detail were most tutorials go into "fast motion". This is a huge help for rank first timers and the intimidating number of wires we face. Also, where did you get that turntable. I'm building my first computer in a Case Labs SMA-8 it I could really use the lazy Susan concept to speed up the process. Thanks again for the excellent teaching.

A little bit more. But we get premium pops that cost more too like Stewart's. Weird flavors like bubble gum too.

I have read about the idea behind form factor used by Gigabyte with the H170 boards - it's standard ATX length but it's not standard ATX width - they're all shorter by about 1/2 - 3/4 inch - Gigabyte says on their site it is to help accommodate them (to be used) in a wide variety of cases. (Again why I do not know you would have to ask Gigabyte - but that seems to be the way they seem to be going with things)

I don't think solid state components need a an anti static shield, at least not as long as they're designed that way. The PCIE version of the solid state storage might use the anti static packaging though
