Bro your video made my day! Like I literally jumped in joy when I received the RUclips notification that you posted a Mirage review! To be frank, most car reviewers don't care about poor & working class Americans. They're too busy reviewing fast expensive luxury & sports cars. So it's so refreshing to watch your review videos of regular affordable cars! God Bless you Drew! Thank you for looking out for us common folk!
spot on
for only 2k more, youre better off with the Hyundai elantra. my gf has this car and its 76 hp requires a lot of planning with speed just to get on the freeway safely. if youre okay with that, more power to you but if you can just splurge a few more thousand or get a good deal, get the hyundai elantra.
@@subhashpillai9914 ehh idk about that.
@Subhash Pillai It's actually 78HP. The Mirage has a very low curb weight of 2100lbs. That's plenty of power for a car that light. Sheeeeit when I was highschool in the late 90s, there were a bunch of cars sold under 100HP. We had no issues speeding and driving like assholes. Gas was cheap.
Your GF might just be a bit skittish on the freeway. It is a subcompact and that makes some nervous around big rigs but you get used to it. I avg 75mph @2500 rpms. I net about 39mpg on a 5.5hr road trip. I've been all up and down I95 and the eastern seaboard, from NYC to South Florida, no issues merging or passing at all.
The Mirage does have a secret turbo. Simply switch off the AC and slap it in Ds/drive sport for a few seconds if you're merging on a very short on ramp. It's completely not necessary but does give a slight boost.

I absolutely hate the Elantra, specially the 2010 I bought new. A piece of garbage really. I already spent too much replacing different parts of this trashy vehicle. And yes, maintenance was performed on schedule, oils and fluids name it.
I know later models have been approved but I wouldn’t recommend Hyundai to anyone I care about.
Know someone who uses a Mirage for one of the delivery apps. It works quite well for him. It was so cheap, nothing goes wrong with it and it doesn't use much gas. For running around town delivering food its perfect.
You nailed it on the head! I've got over 650k miles doing delivery work with all Mirages cvt, 2014, 2017, 2021, 2022. Reliable and frugal, that's all you really need for a commuter.
I have a 2013 hatch model and is still going strong. Just replaced brake pads, tires, busted light bulbs, wipers, nothing else. still runs smooth at 100,000 km+ now. If you take care of it, it will take care of you :)
Ya right I have bought 2 since 2020. I love this car. I drive 100 miles each way to work. 80,000 miles driven in 2 years. I find dealerships rip you off. Over charge. I bought both cars. Cash. But car dealers are on the grab and making money over shadows customer satisfaction. Mitsubishi will not honor warranty if you service your own vehicle. At 60,000 my cat transmission was replaced. Cost me $2500. Also dealership offered me 50% rental car reimbursement. The dealership I delt with is Camacho Mitsubishi. I can't prove it but I think I got double dipped. As for the car. Nice hwy 40 to 45 mpg adequate interior stays clean and vacuums well. I have a G4 and a hatch back. I like this no frills commuter car. Good car reliable. I would buy again.
My Neighbor who is in his 70’s just bought his second new same color blue Mirage the funny part is he is short but had to weigh over 350lbs. Right up against the steering wheel. He has never babied the car Cold Starts and takes right off even in the coldest of New England weather here. I laugh when I see him leaving 5-8 times a day for his wife’s wants and he is so proud of that car.
Next video : Mac mini
Film him next time he waddles out to his car, I want to see him cram his guts in there.
Thanks for giving an honest review of an honest car that's never tried to anything other than reliable and cheap to own. Bravo.
I don’t know about you but I as a Mirage owner do understand that the parts can be limited to get and also pricey especially with the OEM variant but at the same time it is not impossible to get and it NOT in the same tier as BMW and other luxuries brand as far as durability goes. OEM parts aren’t endless money pit so I think that’s something Mirage owners somehow forget :)
Mirage baby!! Smart, environmentaly concerned people drive a Mitsy.
I just bought a 2015 for $4k. 5 speed ✓
some advice when driving a cvt equipped car. When you punch it as you did, it is actually slower that way then if you go down sort of quick but not just suddenly punch it to the floor all at once.Flooring it like that really shortens the life of a cvt transmission. Also do not forget to have the fluid changed at regular intervals on a cvt.
Also a good idea to shift over to DS(drive sport) it safely increases the rpm without damaging the CVT..can be done at any speed
Great review! I recently purchased my THIRD Mirage (a 2023 hatchback) to add to my 2015 and 2021 driving school fleet. I purchase the Mirages due to the excellent warranty and the fact that they are about the only car that a DIYer like myself can still easily work on. The cars are simple and still have the old style handle emergency/parking brake. Spark plug changes take about 20 minutes. The 2015 has 186k on the original engine and CV transmission. It's still going strong and continues to get great mileage. Generally, I'm not a fan of the CVT, but these cars don't have enough torque to stress them out enough to fail easily. They are good cars for the price these days - not too comfortable for a road trip, but a great commuter!
What your advice/recommendation/suggestion to maximize the lifespan of the CVT? I don’t want to neglect it or miss anything important for me to take note of the CVT
I take long vacation trips, sometimes driving from Southern California to North Carolina, no way would i even want to just drive this to las vegas,! 242 miles from home.
Change the fluid every 30K and don't stress the CVT too much. Regardless what the dealer tells you, change the filter when you change the tranny oil. Also, I don't do jackrabbit starts nor do I floor it unless I have to.@@edgaryzen4925
@@johnfranklin5277 well the Mirage is not built for 100% comfort on forever highway.
There’s time, $, and comfort for car-shopper/owner to consider, generally speaking.
I’ve driven 300+ miles on a trip on my Mirage sedan and it was comfortable for me especially with a small cushion for my
Lower back and an aftermarket armrest. I don’t require them for shorter commute.
I like the Mirage’s looks.👍That car has such character.
Car is a junk box with 70hp 😂😂😂
@@brandonUwanawich954 No it isn’t.
These cars used to be 12k. How insane
Not even worth that absolute junk box 70hp I’m deaddd😂😂😂
@@brandonUwanawich954
If it was worth, then maybe a $3 car?
Currently driving a mirage g4 2020 and it took me time to love it but honestly it gets the job down great beginner car nothing special. Just wish I was smarter with the way I finance this car. I owe 20k on it and I already paid over 8k into it in other words I’m in deep trouble lol
We got the 23 mirage hatchback raliart version..fun to drive,ez to park anywhere, cheap insurance, awesome mpg, and great warranty excellent value
I like the Mitsubishi Mirage, not as much for the G4 though. I prefer the hatchback, as it is more useful for me. But I find the engine in it good enough. Speakers are good enough, I would like to see a arm rest in all the models though. That would be nice.
I would also like to see keyless entry a option you can get on the ES. So you can get it, and not need to upgrade to the SE for that.
I find it neat how our van is currently slower than the Mirage, having a roughly 14-17 second 0-60.
wait what? these can be bought NEW from mistubishi for 15k canadian with a manual here in canada....
Your personality is infectious 😊
The one issue, and im dissapointed in mitsubishi for not addressing this earlier, is that the rear alignment, (rear axle) is out of spec when the car leaves the factory and you cant align the rear end. Its not every car but a good number of cars are affected. So what happens is, you go through rear tires like nobody's business. All you have to do is "google" it or hit a mitsubishi mirage forum and youll see what im talking about.
I like your sound system test.😂👍
Some people will think a buyer should get a used car instead of the Mirage but now low mileage at $16K-$20K results in mostly broken or soon to be broken Nissans, Kias and VWs. A person might get lucky and find a base model Subaru Impreza.
personally i think led's should be an option to buy rather then moving up trim levels on any car
Those tires look like bicycle tires.
Great and honest review! I also wish the steering wheel telescoped and I'm 5'6 😂
This is my Ferrari, Lamborghini, all in one.
Great value and warranty 👍
you can also get an Impreza for same price haha
Is it possible to order one?... cant find one in Northern California
buying a used car for the cost of this car would make more sense... literally any used vehicle would be better in that price range
And, the used car might not have a CVT transmission
I kinda "see" this car now, starting to like it.
As the Mirage is basic transportation is it available without power windows, or is power windows standard on all cars nowadays?
If you want manual roll up windows then look for a Chevy Spark LS. If you're lucky, you can find a leftover new 2022 model, otherwise buy an used one.
Only downside I see is no armrest.
Can add as factory or aftermarket for less $. I did mine
I get about 40-42 highway mpg on my 2015 focus
Cool. See if you can hit 50.
Get yourself some ear muffins and you can pin it forever with the 200 000 mile warranty.
Why no armrest?
I wish it had an armrest I think I would still get the hatchback over this
We have the raliart...gets 50 mpg
76 HP??!! I’ll take that $18 G and get myself a used Prius or something else with at 100 plus HP. Great review though!
It only weighs 2200 pounds so while it's definitely a slow car, it's not that much slower than a Prius (pre-2023 model of course). Horsepower to weight ratio is more important than just horsepower alone. Prius is almost 3000 pounds so a lot heavier.
I just bought one a week ago and I gotta say, anyone who thinks this thing is slow simply hasn't driven one. Highways have not been an issue at all in the first 1000 miles. Don't be scared of throwing it into Ds mode and gunning it, the engine only produces 76 HP so you aren't gonna hurt anything mechanically and the car will pick up speed quick.
Sure you won't win any races, but what this car can pull off with 76HP would impress anyone.
Do you have the CVT? I heard bad things about these if they aren't manual but I want one....
@Braeton Wilson power to weight ratio is important... if 76hp gets you moving fast in a hurry because it's a light car... SURE.
0 to 60 in 14 seconds says everything you need to know.
Power to weight ratio in this car is abysmal... a car that does 0 to 60 in 10 seconds is considered slow and underpowered in 2023, this does it in 14.... it's a death trap waiting to happen when attempting to merge into traffic and you'll never be able to pass anything.
No thanks.
ITS LOCAL AFFORDABLE TRANSPORTATION TO GET YOU AROUND YOUR CITY WITHOUT DEPENDING ON PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION, GROCERY SHOPPING, DOCTORS APPOINTMENTS, AND MOST IMPORTANT IT WILL GET YOU BACK AND FORTH TO WORK, NOT EVERYONE NEEDS TO JUMP ON FREEWAYS TO GET TO WORK, BECAUSE ALOT OF PEOPLE WORK WITHIN THEIR OWN CITY LIMITS AND THE MIRAGE G4 WOULD ELIMINATE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION DEPENDENCY TO MOVE AROUND, THE CAR HAS A PURPOSE THATS WHY IT WAS BUILT, IT SIMPLY HAS NO PURPOSE FOR YOU, YOUR FEEBLE MINDED FOR SURE.
Can someone tall fit in this
I just test drove one, im 6' and yes I felt comfy
Imma buy used, because 18k is not what this car is worth.
Neither is buying a Accord for example. To each to owns
Not bad for around $18,000, I personally would go for the Hyundai Accent
Hyundai has stopped selling new Accents in the USA. There is no 2023 Hyundai Accent in the USA sadly.
@@braetonwilson4296 darn, I loved that design, looked like a smaller 2018 Elantra.
@@_IIN01 Me too, the design was great!
A 2022 Accent after dealer fees, tax, tag, and title is going to be $22k at least, more like $24k. A top trim SE Mirage will be a total price of $19k. An extra $5k isn't in the budget for most cheap car buyers.
@@kylemas2005 Good point, especially since the Mitsubishi dealership is more likely to discount.
Thank God, it doesn't have the push start rubbish or fast key junk
That is an option on the SE trim.
It's 18k for reasons you refuse to admit.
He said the reasons. #1, It's louder, #2, it isn't the smoothest ride, #3, it's slow compared to all the new cars. But it is a quite reliable car if you change the transmission fluid before it's due.
i never see this car brand around where i live
Get a 6.4 hemi or a Hellcat 70HP 💀 💀
Only18000 !? 3 or five years ago, corolla cost was 19000. I'd never buy this car at this price !! 🤣
The out the door price (including taxes and fees) for a new 2023 base Corolla LE is around 25,000-26,000 dollars and a fully loaded 2023 Corolla XLE/XSE will be over 30,000 dollars. Car prices have gone up by a lot in the last 3 years.
@@EpicDrew15 When you include destination, the 2023 Corolla actually starts at just under $23,000. I agree with you, Mirage is genuinely cheap compared to the Corolla.
2019/2020 price incomparable to 2023, 2024, 2025 and beyond. You didn’t even adjust it to inflation from those respective years.
I bet you 100% you would say $30k 2025 Corolla is expensive and you still gonna say yes to that one versus $20k Mirage.
I remember these going for sub $10k new from a local dealership near me about 10 years ago.
@@astrofizzix4498 so did Fit, Yaris, for sub $16k. It was a different time. Irrelevant now.
I'd rather drive a used Toyota over this.
Made in Thailand. No thanks thats all i needed to know
Assembled in Tailand. Made by Mitsubishi (Japan).
These things can reach 300k miles.
Great review. Keep up the good work! From Canada...all the best brother!
now that they've cancelled this vehicle, no more new cars for working class folk.
its a fake warranty I know from experience haha @Mitsubishi
Can you elaborate? I'm thinking of buying one
I SEE THEY STILL HAVE NOT EXPLAINED HOW THE WARRANTY IS FAKE? JUST ANOTHER TROLL I GUESS!!
I was considering this until I found out that it takes the honors for the most dangerous car in the U.S ⚠💔
this is a 2023 car that looks like it is from 2008 with propably way less power it is not even that cheap though it is amazIng they can sell this garbage
Wow
As much as I agree with your statement, sadly the average price of a decent sub-compact has risen to $20k+ if you're lucky. Meaning that lots of folks are getting priced out of anything over this thing. I've always called the Mirage a highway deathtrap.
@@astrofizzix4498 Your POV. I bet you won’t say the same regards toward any pre 2k era cars.
Looks is subjective. The 2014-15 model looks from 08’ or older.
Chassis wise, it still serviceable in 2023. To say it so unsafe to drive is FAR from the truth.
@@edgaryzen4925 Actually, I'd say the same is true about the Geo Prism (circa early 1990's.). A litteral box-on-wheels designed to crumple at any impact over 20 MPH.
"only $18,000"
1. good luck actually getting one at that price.
2. even at that price, they're bad value.
