In some ways the story of the serpents in Genesis is contrary to the story of the cross. One way of looking at both stories is to see that the 'raising up' of the Genesis serpent is a way of exposing the evil for all to see. That is, in contrast to it being hidden..where it can fester and grow and kill unnoticed. So, this might mean that moral teachings regarding sin should be taught to all, even though people might not want to hear...or 'look at' those teachings. And then when Jesus is 'raised up', the exact opposite occurs....it is not evil that is being exposed to scrutiny, but it is 'Goodness Itself' ...God...who is being shown and revealed to all that would look. With the serpent we learn what we should ovoid. With Jesus we learn what we should obtain and strive for...ie. Eternal love. Just one angle to view these scriptures....comparing the 'tree of deadly fruits' with the 'tree of life giving fruits'.
It should be noted that the level of goodness with regards to looking at the bronze serpent raised up is specifically trust. I.E. They faith-ed themselves to God's care to save them. With the cross of our Lord we must believe ourselves to Jesus Himself unto the level of marital relationship (spiritually speaking as members of His own body).

I find it strange that God, who severely rebuked the Israelites for the golden calf, now commissions Moses to make a bronze serpent. I realize the attitude toward each was different but sure could have been confusing to them.

The high priest is Caiaphas, Matthew 26:57. Caiaphas tore his own clothes as described in Matthew 26:65. It was forbidden for the high priest to tear his own garments as stated in Leviticus 10:6 and Leviticus 21:10. I hope this helps. God Bless.

It appears that the snake represent the law and its sting was a failure to accomplish the law which killed you. Please can a Catholic tell me how the Pope can be infallible, even when he retracts certain statements, why we have to go to a priest to get forgiveness when Jesus says nobody comes to the father except through me. Also can somebody explain to me how the bread and wine actually transfer to blood and flesh in the mouth. What Moises raised up is not a serpent but a sheep. This is a translation error of the Greek bible.

He became a (sin offering) which was a sacrifice that was atonement for sin. Dr. Brant has a video answering this exact question

It's interesting, there's another part in the bible that mentions the snake on a stick called nehushtan I think.... Hoshea did right in the eyes of the Lord and broke the bronze serpent to pieces because people worshipped it or burned incense to it.

Please can a Catholic tell me how the Pope can be infallible, even when he retracts certain statements, why we have to go to a priest to get forgiveness when Jesus says nobody comes to the father except through me. Also can somebody explain to me how the bread and wine actually transfer to blood and flesh in the mouth. Also can somebody explain to me how the Vatican is the most rich organisation in the Northern hemisphere. Also there is no mention of purgatory in the Bible it says there shall be one judgement before the Great White throne no purgatory. Also know where in the Bible does it say that Mary was anything more than a normal human woman so why is she prayed to as if she was still alive she is just a normal human being that was blessed to be the mother of Christ our saviour... Also in the Bible it says call no man father I believe this is in Matthew but I may be wrong but I know that is in the gospels so why bother confessing your sins to a human and at the same time why violate the commandment that says do not call any man father except your father in heaven.. Catholicism is completely floored and leads people away from the true glory of the gospel

We are also saved in this life--spiritual healing. Whoever is bitten by the serpent, ie., is tempted and sins, after confessing his sins in the sacrament, the spiritual wounds are further healed by looking at the uplifted serpent--the crucifix. Confession is healing, but the enemy knows our vulnerabilities. Looking at the Crucifix with expectation of being healed--the same attitude as the Israelites--results in miraculous strengthening of our souls from the enemy's snares.
