      Will "the petite" last in an African cichlid tank(i.e. high pH) w/o root tabs, Co2 or anything additional for that matter?

    Agree 100% Anubias is the absolute best and easiest beginner plant. Grows slow which allows for easy care. Nearly indestructible so care is practically not needed. And the plant survived with aggressive Cicclids for about a year despite getting beat up.

    I opened this immediately upon seeing the notification only to find this was uploaded 7 hours ago...
    My anubius Nana petite is still recovering from being lost in the mail for a month. That was a couple of months ago. It has a few tiny leaves now, but still recovering...so I haven't really had much experience with it yet. I can say I'm impressed with its ability to grow back from literally just roots and a broken, damaged little stem thing. Definitely a survivor.

    I like the mentions of the different dosing of Easy Green levels so I don't just follow the pump per ten gallon rule.

    • @MadCheshireHat
      @MadCheshireHat 5 лет назад +1

      Yes, I never would've guessed he isn't doing a full dosage! I was at first, but now I just put a few squirts in here and there (I have the nano Easy Green since I didn't expect to get a 25 gallon in addition to my 7 gallon), usually just after a water change or if the plants look like they could use it.

    That is a beautiful tank. I have at least 6 varieties of Anubias I've lost count. lol Yes, algae is a problem, but I don't sweat it too much because one of my standard larger leaf Bateri that has algae is actually blooming so I would think that it means it's fairly healthy. I brush the algae off and trim the leaves on occasion. I think if you did premiere videos where you can be in the chat answering questions would be cool.

    Did your Great Grandfather have a Dichondra lawn? It was super popular back then, especially in the warmer parts of the state. But the herbicide that was used to keep Grass out of it was banned in the late 1970s so they went out of fashion. Plus they were a lot more maintenance than a regular grass lawn. But yeah, a well kept Dichondra lawn was a thing of beauty!
    Thanks for the video!

    I’ve got a kinda goofy looking semi artificial set up with a piece of fake wood along with some fake plants (in addition to real rock and wood.) but it’s got fake gravel too. I put 3 rhizomes of petite on the real wood (cuz you can’t plant like anything else due to fake gravel) and they are stunning. I also took some moss and stuffed it on some rocks and in the crevices of the fake wood. This is an all tetra/S. America tank and I love it. The fish love it too, the little neons have a nice place to hide, and somehow my buenos aries haven’t eaten them. The Cory cats (only non tetras in the tank) also enjoy it, and it has helped out my filters a ton on that tank. The next step is to get a natural colored gravel instead of a predominantly black shade with some charcoal and gray throughout, but I’ll save that for another time. And yeah the artificial plants blend decently and give it some fullness (I really wanted to do Buenos Aires tetras but they will eat most live plants, hence the semi artificial tank.) And then it’s as easy as add a splash of sechem liquid fertilizer and some API stress-zyme and the tank is flourishing. I may also add some snails in case alge, but all my ones in the past have just flipped over.

    Actually, coffeefolia is named thusly because the leaves look exactly like those of a coffee plant. It comes from a coffee growing region, and the namer made the connection between the two plants. It's like an underwater coffee plant is so identical! However yes it is lovely how the leaves turn coffee color under bright light. I don't think American aquarists realize this unless they have had an actual coffee plant. I keep them as houseplants, so the first time I ever received a coffefolia, I knew immediately where the name came from! Did some checking, and yep.

    Human brains are weird. Bacon makes me think of my childhood. My Granny was an excellent cook. The smell of bacon takes me back to breakfasts in the summer at the beach. If I close my eyes, I can see my Granny at the stove, I can smell the bacon, I can feel the breeze coming off the ocean flowing through the open doors and windows of the beach house.
    Back to anubias. I have every variety I have been able to find. I think it's a great plant. You can do so many things with it. You can also get it at PetSmart and it will be in decent shape. I consider myself a beginner and I would pick it over moss. Although, I do love my mosses.
    I think a live trimming would be interesting. We could ask questions in real time.
    Take care of yourself and give little Olivia a snuggle from me. (Does that seem creepy since I don't actually know you? I hope not. It's not meant that way. LOL. The internet makes relationships weird sometimes.)

    • @MadCheshireHat
      @MadCheshireHat 5 лет назад +2

      I haven't finished the video, so maybe there's a reason you mentioned bacon... xD
      I got a couple anubius from PetSmart and it took a few weeks for one to settle in, but they're doing great now! No clue why they were on clearance since they were perfectly healthy, but I'm not complaining! The 10" Amazon sword I got has become my favorite plant and is the centerpiece of my 25 gallon.
      Okay, reached the end, now I see where the bacon memory comes from. Bacon personally makes me think of my dad and his large, fat- and cholesterol-filled fried breakfasts on weekends. He recently went on some form of keto diet. Never would've predicted that.
