I'm in the process of rescuing my tank and I'd like to put a background. I think I want to paint the back of the tank it would look really good.. perhaps put some kind of cover on the back
Thank you for the teaching, I was excited to try to put anubias on my small tank, but also affraid of the algae, now I have more confidence to try it, one question though, is the smaller variety of anubias still have the same characteristic as the bigger one? Official WASABI Moderator: Dear Saka, In my experience, Anubias species itself is not demanding on nutrients. Make sure they are not under direct lighting as they are prone for spot algae.

Mainly because my room is so hot and I am not allowed to keep the air conditioner running while I'm at work but another thing is my plants don't get 8 hours of light they only get four because I live in an old building and my landlords worried that if I run all my tanks that the electrical will have problems but the anubius is probably one of the strongest column feeders I have ever come across that plant never dies

I love Taiwan too yeah I've been here for 18 years. Being that I've never really dealt with water and fish until 3 years ago I was surprised how hard it was to keep things alive Good news almond leaves are the thing to soften your water which basically neutralizes the acid

Those leaves have medicinal properties for the fish: the tannins they release are anti-microbial, help maintain the protective slime coat on fish, and provide food for others. Here I use maple leaves to do the same…for free vs. C$1/leaf for Almond leaf in pet stores. I follow geopolitics like a fiend, so I have to ask how you feel about the constant threats from China? I understand if you’re not able to share an opinion. I’m sad that Hong Kong is no longer the Hong Kong I visited 10 years ago.

When i bought my Anubias i did not have any glue to attach it, so i used a rubber band in one aquarium to attach it to a rock and in my other Aquarium i was able to place the roots in a very narrow opening of one of my ornaments. Do you think the roots will take hold or should i reattach with glue? Its need two days and all is well. Thank you.
Did the rubber band thing work for you? I too am adding anubia to my tank. I fixed it in the crevices of my dragon stone. It fit perfectly but i don't know if it'll work as mostly everyone is tying or using glue. Any advice would be appreciated.
i like anubias but i heard a bad thing about them either , its called rhizome rot/anubias rhizome disease im not sure what causes this disease and its very contagious it could wipe out an entire anubias in the same aquarium as far as i know it came from hitchhiking bacteria or fungus from new anubias , that's why im afraid to try anubias also im curious..is it possible to prevent this disease? if i quarantine every anubias before putting in the tank..after they stabilize for long time is it possible this disease will appear even though i didn't get new anubias?
This was very helpful, the tip about lighting and how it can cause algae growth really resonated with me. I’m having that issue right now and will definitely place it in a darker part of my aquarium

HalfMan HalfCichlid 0 seconds ago I love anubias. They grew like crazy for a couple of years and now they seem to shrink over time. One of the problems is black beard algae. I have cut back on lighting and am using CO2 to try to reverse this trend in one tank. I have also set up a "anubias farm" where I grow them emerged (plastic tote, miracle Gro soil, and grow light), and plan on returning them to my aquariums once they become larger and healthier. I plan on rotating anubias through the "farm" to keep them robust. I am a biologist too and have tried everything to get them to grow like they did for a while while immersed. The question I have is, what pH is your water at? I am concerned that Indianapolis water, pH at about8.2, will not allow me to have beautiful immeresed anubias plants.
That’s pretty basic water. City water is 7.4ish in SW Ontario, 45 min North from me my coworker has 8.1 out of his tap. He was wondering why his fish and plants died off…even Hornwort! Mine will creep higher if I don’t do a water change monthly. Back to your question… Instead of fighting or tweaking your water to fit the plants (which only stresses them constantly) look for plants that prefer your higher pH and enjoy.
@@ruidadgmailcanada8508 now that I add CO2 and dose fertilizers my plants are growing like crazy. The CO2 dropped the pH by a full point to 7.4 (carbonic acid affect)
@@HalfManHalfCichlid that’s good news. I haven’t gone the CO2 route. Mostly because I like low maintenance tanks. All my tanks have soil base with sand cap, natural and medium to heavily planted.
@@ruidadgmailcanada8508 different approaches will work. For me I have a lot of earth eaters like Geophagus that did quite a bit. I also hate bottom vacuuming so I go with plants in small pond baskets. Have quite a few videos on my channel on this approach

Specifically this vertical look. Do I need to make any litle pocket of soil to grow on the top of this structure? Or it is aquascape without soil... Spends 67 hours carefully removing Rockwool stuck everywhere between the roots. Once done, cut the roots like a savage! lol

Even with medium lighting and in the shade of another plant mine has algae on the leaves. It slows the growth but it's not been an issue really.

Yes that rock wool can probably get in fish gills , that would not be healthy
How to maintain anubias in tank? This is challenging as they keep shedding leaves and rhizomes turn soft and brown in color.
One issue.. you can use crazy glue gel, it's better
