Arrived late to his police department on his first day only to see the city now overrun with zombies, falls for and subsequently loses a girl, helps Claire and Sherry escape the city, then gets picked up and forced into government work just so Sherry can be guaranteed to be safe.
Like, Ethan is unlucky for sure. But he walked into the Baker's house knowing full well he shouldn't go there. Leon just wanted to go to work, man.

actually he was the perfect protagonist for these last two games just because he was a common guy in this situation, his motivations were purely personal, he got to hell and back for his wife and daughter and never had same training as Leon or Chris
He did have training in Village though. I like how in RE7 he carelessly drops magazine when reloading but in Village he does tactical reloads like a pro.
RE7 Ethan had no training, he was just a guy searching for his missing wife. In RE8 he mentions how he was receiving military training. (But he still can't use his fists)

@@T1Top yeah it does. It wasn’t really that dangerous for him since he was a BOW. Getting his limbs cut off is barely even an inconvenience for him so he’s not very vulnerable. The other RE protagonists are only human so there can be serious consequences to them getting hurt since they can’t just glue themselves back together which makes the stakes higher. Ethan’s story can’t compare to that. RE also has MULTIPLE characters who go through hell trying to save people younger than them like Claire with sherry in RE2, Barry with Natalia and Moira in revelations 2, Leon with Ashley in RE4, Leon and Krauser with Manuela in operation Javier, and even Chris with Rebecca in RE1. Ethan really isn’t special.

Leon supremacy. My first crush right there lmao. RE games that features him were literally my childhood, so I can't quite put a new character over good old Kennedy.
Re4 Leon (which is considered his prime) mid diffs Ethan. If we just take RE4 for reference, Leon survived (not wiped) a whole village, castle and an island filled with creatures like El Gigante, Mendez, Verdugo, Salazar, armed militia, and even Regeneradors. He took out Krauser who had various advantages against him (armed bots and Plaga infection). He even took out Saddler (with a little help) who was the strongest BOW over there.
Ethan? He's good father, and that itself is a very strong point considering they are living in a world where Bio-Organic outbreaks happen like leap years (Racoon city, Kijuju, China, Edonia and many more)
I put Chris above both of them. Last we see of Leon is in Vendetta and Ethan's dead... seemingly. Chris survived numerous encounters with Wesker and from what we've seen in Village, he's most likely gonna headline IX.
Ethan still fought nightmarish creatures and regenerated from lots of things so in a normal fight Leon wins but in a death match Ethan takes the cake... Especially if his daughter is involved.
There's no denying since the madlad (Ethan) can just stick his sliced arm back and walk away like nothing😂😂😂
