After a requiem liturgy at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Ferrybank, Co. Waterford on Tuesday afternoon, Irish World Rally Championship driver Craig Breen was laid to rest.
The 33-year-old, who died on Thursday during a test session with the Hyundai Motorsport team in Croatia, was remembered as a shining example, a champion for the common man, a devoted friend, and much more.
There was a full house in the church, and many more people were gathered outside on the street and in the parking lot to hear his sister Kellie say, "Craig was happiest when he was tearing around in whatever would allow him to enjoy the fastest speed, he gave years pedaling a go-kart around our house, and eventually on to his petrol kart, where he upgraded to going up and down the driveway."
As one biographer put it, "He loved to push things to the limit, seeing what he could make them do and what fun he could knock out of them."
She continued, "Our family truly did let the world in on Craig. His godson Bobby's arrival prompted him to spend more time at home, and the two quickly grew close.
Kellie brought the class to laughing when she said, "She would say, I don't know what planet he lives on but he thinks he is going to drive cars for a living." This was a reference to his high school career guidance instructor.
Kelly continued, "It has given us an insight into a whole new world Craig discovered when he finally found the place he belonged in his motorsport family. Instead of mourning his loss, he would rather have people celebrate and remember the happy moments they spent together.
Craig is incredibly fortunate to have had a once-in-a-million-years story that will allow him to continue existing in the form of his legacy. Please keep his memory alive as a tribute to all of us. Craig, I think it's reasonable to say that your goal of making people proud was successfully accomplished.
We gather with profound pain and loss," the local priest, Fr. Kieran O'Shea, stated earlier. Craig was such a bright light in our world, and now he enjoys the eternal glow of his greatness. We are saying goodbye to someone who provided light and joy to so many people during his brief journey through life, so yes, there is sadness and tears, but you know what, the sun is shining today too.
A helmet, a trophy, tea bags, and gloves, all reminders of Craig's life, were placed on the altar.
Craig Breen made no secret of the fact that he only cared about rallying and had no interest in hurling, football, or soccer. He achieved his lifelong goal of becoming a professional rally driver, a path fraught with ups and downs. Since his untimely death in Croatia, there has been a lot of talk about it in the news and on social media.
Unfortunately, there are no adequate words to describe the tragedy that has befallen Craig's family and friends. There's no doubting his talent; he was tough, focused, and motivated, but he also enjoyed a good laugh and brought a breath of fresh air to his World Rally Championship team and competitors.

RiP Craig. One hell of a driver and a true gentleman. Amazing raw talent and speed. The WRC is a far worse place without you. God bless you and your family and friends
What an insult to Craig and his mourning family, firstly that fake thumbnail with that big arrow pointing then a computer animated voice that cannot pronounce words properly or speak with any feeling. The Breen family, Ireland and beyond have lost a fine upstanding gentleman and this is what ''Cricket Star'' produce, they can't even write a proper title, shame on them.....
Quite agree. It's a disgrace to his memory, and utterly lazy not to even be bothered to use a real human voice at this most sensitive moment. Shame on you and your crappy channel.
RIP Craig this still hurts but im happy he got to pass away doing what he loves ❤️
My father always said "Do not mourn the dead, mourn the living" this is hard to do when it comes to people who have touched so many people and been an inspiration to many others. RIP Mr Breen RIP Mr. Roberts
Rest in peace in te land of champions! Note that 1:33 is not the accident of his passing, it was with Hyundai and the car hit a pole and didn't roll
it is very sad that such good people, outstanding athletes or racers, our idols leave this world at a young age. rest in peace!! forever in our memory!! condolences to the family, sincere condolences!!greetings from Poland
Kažu da čovjek umre dva puta, prvi put kad napusti ovaj svijet,a drugi put kad se zadnji put spomene njegovo ime što znači da će Craig još dugo živjeti ❤🇭🇷🇮🇪
