@@millerkarageanes1562 I wouldn't say that. Discord had a contingency plan if things got too out of hand. He would basically Thanos snap them into Tartarus. Unfortunately, he didnt expect them to take his powers. He didnt go back on his lessons, he just has an....interesting way of getting twilight ready to rule Equestria.
I always love it when they give nods to continuity with the references to past episodes. Pinkie talking about the "yeti" creature that chased her when she went to Yakyakistan, Spike and Big Mac having guy days when the Mane Six are out like they mentioned in The Cutie Map, Discord reminiscing on "games" like trapping ponies in hedge mazes and turning them against each other, Big Mac still fantasizing about being a unicorn like in his dreams when they fought the Tantabus, and so on and so forth. It's not like they're huge, game-changing scenes or anything, but it's still really fun to see them slipping in little details like that.
This wasn't the absolute best episode in the season by any means, but it was definitely a fun one.

They should do more episodes like this one and power ponies, because its the perfect oppertunity to do adventures and fun stories that normally wont fit into the pony world setting.

Once again, points to Fluttershy in this season! Her personality is winning me over, more than usual. She certainly has a knack for reining in Discord like a boss. Haha! XD "Opposite Fluttershy" made me jump and quiver at the same time but, that was hilarious! Being able to see Spike and Big Mac spend time together was a nice callback from the S5 premiere. It would have been nice to go with the mane 6 and explore Yakyakistan, seems like we may be missing out on some big things considering there was a friendship summit at Griffonstone a couple of episodes ago don't you think? This was a very good episode, it kinda dragged on a bit in the middle; but I still had a good time watching this(an amusing reaction too😉).
Yeah, they spent way too much time on Discord's entrance and him getting bored over the game, definitely some pacing issues. Still some fantastic character growth for Discord though. Oh, and yeah, would be nice to get a the-other-side-of-the-coin episode showing the Mane 6's trip to Yakyakistan, but I kinda doubt we will.
Seeing opp. Fluttershy makes me say "WTF now I know her deepest thoughts about everypony"
I love these three.
I found this episode very entertaining. I especially liked the Josephine Baker pony reference and seeing Big Mac's reaction to what Discord's idea a "Guy's Night" was. Definitely appropriate for a fully grown stallion like Big Mac & Discord too being thousands of years old, but for Spike, who is still a child, I can see him not being as interested as Big Mac like in the episode and care more about playing the game. I got a feeling that if Spike wasn't there Big Mac would've taken Discord on his offer to see showmares, drink, and go swing dancing. I did feel Discord's pain when Spike said he felt sorry for him. But he did need to be checked for his behavior. And I agree, Spike is growing a lot and getting more character development. That line about him being respected by everyone I felt was intentional. Spike is being treated with a lot more respect this season compared to the earlier ones.
And I do hope they bring the concept of Equestria's new allies coming together to protect the nation in the season finale. But I dunno, we'll have to see.
This episode was very fun, enjoyable, and has plenty rewatch value. Nick Confalone has written so many great episodes, I love everything he's written so far and he's solidly becoming one of my favorite writers. (^w^)

Captain America: I understood that reference
You know, as I watched the episode and a few of my favorite reactions again I couldn't help pondering this question: Is Fluttershy good at shooting down immature nonsense from Discord because she's been dealing with Zephyr Breeze for so many years, or did she learn to deal with immature nonsense from Zephyr Breeze because she had to learn how to deal with Discord? Either way, I love what they've done with Fluttershy this season. She's still panicky/anxious about certain things, but you can really see how much she's grown over the series. And seeing her go full on Super Sassy when she has to act like a big sister to characters like Zephyr and Discord is a real treat. The awesome facial expressions don't hurt either. Whatever people might think about the episodes overall, I don't think anyone can deny that the animation crew has been doing one hell of a job in season six.
...Also, as a side note, Discord really seemed to enjoy poking fun at Celestia in this episode. I wonder if maybe someone is holding a bit of a grudge for taking Fluttershy off to Yakyakistan without him. Then again, maybe he just remembers that she's the only pony who actually ENJOYED his particular brand of comedy when he crashed the last Gala at her invitation, and it's all done in good humor. Honestly, someday I'd really like to have an episode where we get to see more interaction between Discord, Celestia, and Luna. There's got to be some great comedy material there.
I think the entire fandom collectively agrees that there needs to be a slice of life episode for Celestia and Luna. Having Discord make an appearance in that could be priceless, but even without that, it could still be awesome. I doubt we'll get it this season, the way things are looking, but hopefully they have it in the works for next season.
Regarding Fluttershy's increased assertiveness, I'm not sure you can credit either Discord or Zephyr alone for it. I think it's the result of lots of experiences she's had throughout the show. I will, however, toss out the idea that Discord has been behaving himself and hanging around them long enough that he's become a fairly close friend, to the point of being sort of like family. If so, that could perhaps explain why she's more easily able to deal with his shenanigans the same way she dealt with Zephyr Breeze, because it's somebody she knows well enough to be that confident around. Regardless, of the reason, I LOVE seeing this side of her! XD
the game was Ogres and Oubliettes... an Oubliette, is a prison in old french. So, it really is a take on Dungeons and Dragons. Seems Discord is finding teamwork to be fun there at the end. :)

Actually, they probably took that title from the IDW comics. Shining Armor and his buddies played Ogres and Oubliettes in high school.
Those who have seen Labyrinth know that 'oubliette' means 'a place of forgetting'. It is a special prison meant to put someone you never want to see again -- aka a dungeon, yes. The only real difference is that people get out of prison, not so much an oubliette (they are also generally solitary confinement).
Hence the story of 'The Man in the Iron Mask', which dungeon was an oubliette.

Good theory.
The writers said that they weren't completely sure what to do with Starlight until about the middle of Season 5. Seeing how many episodes take a long time from conception to when it airs, it's possible that she wasn't written in because they didn't know if she'd be there or not. It might've been too late to make any changes to the scripts. The episodes she's in were probably written after they finalized Starlight's role in everything.
If nothing happens to her in the season finale, then I hope she's written in a lot more episodes, whether it's focused on her or not.
That actually is an excellent point. It's possible that given the timing of things, her story arc for this season was finalized after some of the episode scripts were already finalized with no mention of her. Still wish they could have worked that stuff out more quickly, but I get it, stuff happens.
I get the feeling Discord and The Mask would definitely enjoy a night out together.

Actually, the club they are teleported by Discord is an obsious reference to the Coco Bongo, the club for The Mask movie, discord suit too.

Reva Slatts it’s a French comic, the most translated comic character in the world (not kidding, it has been translated in Latin as well...), about a Gaul village resisting Caesar’s invasion thanks to a magic potion that makes them invincible. It’s incredibly funny, especially to Europeans, because it turns the ancient populations living in here into stereotypes of modern locals (Gauls are stereotypes of the French, Romans of the Italians, Goths of the Germans, Bretons of the British, you get the idea). I grew up with the Italian translations, which was amazing too, but, since I studied French, I can say that reading it in the mother tongue is an absolute blast.
Could it be said in the last scene Rainbow was a dashing rouge? Sorry couldn't resist.

Technically speaking, that dialogue doesn't exist in a tabletop RPG manual (that I know of.) However...the Dungeon Master is essentially, the storyteller of the game's world.
So, while the player can do whatever they want. The DM can say whatever he/she wants to help with the story.

Welllll......the player can do whatever they want within reason. Trying to do something like killing a fellow party member may be banned depending on the DM

It's was just another dungeons and dragons reference.
I thought Assassin's Creed as well, but I wasn't sure if that was accurate, so decided to skip over that. Looking at it later, I think it was more of a rogue/thief thing in relation to role playing games.

Going back to something said about the first couple seasons, the episodes aren't necessarily shown, or written, in chronological order. This could be from before the season opener, explaining the absence of Starlight.

Oh, and Apple, the reference you were missing was the whole Jim Carrey's "The Mask" movie, with the CoCo Bongo Casino/Night Club and the way Discord was dressed. Which in my opinion was a perfect fit, because in that movie the Norse god of Mischief (aka Chaos), Loki, is the being imprisoned in the mask. And whoever puts it on gets taken over by him and does hilarious crazy things. I always loved that movie. :D

Talking with my daughter about this episode & I remembered on my Sims Medieval game I made Rainbow Dash an assassin and Pinkie a bard. And this was back in January lol 😁😜

When Discord was in the suit at that club it was a "The Mask" reference. He even used a trophy just like the Mask gave himself. For those that do not know "The Mask" is a older 90's movie with Jim Carey and Cameron Diaz. Jim Carey's character, Stanley Ipkiss, puts on a old wooden, norse, and magical mask and it transform him into a crazy almost cartoon character with cartoon abilities in the real world and makes him pretty invincible. Great classic movie that even had a cartoon adaption and a second movie "Son of the Mask", but honestly that movie wasn't that good in my opinion.

D'oh, I completely forgot about that! I've seen the season 5 episodes probably the least of any of the seasons, really should re-watch those again soon.
First off, DHX DID IT AGAIN!!! They bugged my house to steal my ideas! I had a few ideas about what an FRPG in Equestria would be called, and Oubliettes & Ogres was one of them. Other ideas were Prisons & Ponies and Gulags & Griffons. /// Second, I have a feeling this is going to be this season's "Just For Sidekicks/Games Ponies Play." /// Finally, 10:00 I thought Spike was going to name the Squid Wizard "Squirk" and ruin my fanfic. But, fanfic saved!

Eh, I avoided making that reference because I wasn't sure it was accurate. I think it was more of a reference to a class of character in the game itself, not specifically Assassin's Creed. Still was fun to see though. Btw, did you see the way Dash was eyeing Pinkie when she transformed into her gypsy bard outfit? I swear she was thinking "What the...nevermind, it's just Pinkie Pie." XD

I wish they had more episodes that involved Discord. He's like my favorite character. Although, this episode still wasn't as good as last weeks I gotta admit. Although, I felt they were kinda mean to him. They were practically taunting and egging him on, practically trying to provoke him and then they complain when he retaliates. It was their own fault. I'm of course referring to the part at 13:36-14:20 They should know better than that by now, seeing as they know what he's capable of if you tick him off. It could stand to reason that he just can't take a joke. But it's one thing to joke, it's another to taunt and tease knowing that it's going to tick someone off. Then again, that's just my nitpick. This episode isn't so bad. I like it, especially since it involves Discord. Last week's is still better though, imo.
You, know what, come to think of it. I changed my mind, last week's episode isn't better than this one. Both episodes are real good. I still have my nitpick about Big Mac and Spike taunting Discord, but other than that, I love it.
My biggest complaint about this episode was the pacing. The scenes in the castle where they were trying to get him interested in the game seemed to take forever. Like I said, I wish they had gotten to the game world more quickly and utilized that more to advance the story. But, it is what it is, and in terms of character growth for Discord himself, it's definitely one of his best moments, IMHO.
I love the part when Discord made the game real.
