It's about biodiversity and if ecological corridors make the dispersal of species easier. So the square has no corridors, than there is the two plots separated by one corridor and the control group that has the corridors that do not lead to anything (to rule out that the narrow area itself promotes biodiversity). It was done at military grounds where no one was allowed (so it was pretty undisturbed) and therefore an ideal location for such an experiment. Greetings from The Netherlands!
