When Alycia was in sixth grade - middle school days - she was ready for a normal day in school. She hung out with her friends and went to all of her classes, and she made her to way to computer class. That day, she had an assignment that required her to stand up in front of everyone and give a PowerPoint presentation on her family.
Right before it was her turn to present, she realized she totally forgot to put pictures of her family on her PowerPoint presentation! She quickly went on online and looked up her family members' names on the internet to see if she could find images of them. Luckily, it worked!
The last person she had to look up for the project was her dad. A little backstory on her dad - Alycia and her dad were never super close. They had some issues when she was younger, as Alycia's dad cheated on her mom, had a baby with another woman and moved to another state. Overtime, Alycia's dad made more of an effort to be in her life, and they found time to visit each other. However, because of everything that had happened in the past, it wasn't always easy for Alycia to feel close to her dad.
That day in computer class, as Alycia was looking up her dad's name online, she saw something she could never forget - pictures of her dad in handcuffs and articles all over the internet about him being arrested. Alycia was shocked - she had no idea that her dad was in jail. At that very moment, Alycia's teacher called her up to the front of the class to present. But because she was so frantic about the situation, she forgot to close out of the browser. When her teacher hooked up her computer to the smart board, everyone in the class saw the articles and news about her dad. Alycia was so upset, and she ran out of the room crying. She couldn't believe it when she said to herself, "My whole class found out my dad was in jail."
When Alycia got home, her mom told her the truth about her dad - he had been arrested, and he was sentenced to prison for 16 years. Alycia couldn't believe that her dad would miss so much of her life.
Eventually, Alycia was able to talk to her dad on the phone from jail. Even though it was so hard for her to accept the situation, she decided that she was going to support her father and still have a relationship with him.
Now, she can't wait for the day that her dad comes home so she can give him a big hug.

The fact that this girl's dad caused her mum and her a lot of crap and they still want to have a healthy relationship and she WANTS him to come out of jail is just so... heartwarming! We all do terrible stuff and sometimes people go to prison for those actions but they decided to forgive him

My dad used to be an alcoholic a long time ago. When I was about three or four, he went to jail a lot. One of this jail trips was during Christmas. And I'm born on December 3rd so he missed my birthday. And Christmas. 😔 He ended up calling me on my birthday to wish me a happy birthday. That's one of my favorite birthday memories. Just hearing his voice on my birthday while he was away meant the world to me.
It was a tuff time while he was gone those few times. He behaved well in jail so we got to see him a few times and got to call him a bunch. When we did go see him, it was such a long drive we had to stay at a hotel once to make it a two day trip. And once I had to choose to visit my dad in jail or go to a friends birthday party. I chose to vist my dad. My friend moved away before I his next birthday party rolled around so I never went to on of his paries. But I didn't care. As long as I got to see my dad. I couldn't talk to him on the phone without bursting into tears the first couple times my mom was on the phone with him.
I remember we were making cards for him and he was talking to my mom and my mom told me to tell him love him after I said hi. But I started crying uncontrollably and ran away after just barely saying it through my tears. Then I felt bad for probably breaking my dad's heart. Me and my sister would also sleep in his bed with my mom the times he was gone .
One time I came home from school to learn my cousins and aunty were staying for a few hours so I was in a good mood.
But then my mom broke the news to me that my dad was back in jail for the second time. So I started crying and my mom left the room. Then I heard my mom tell my auntie that I was crying and my auntie (one of my dads sisters) came in to comfort me.
I still remember the day he came home from his last jail trip. It had been so long since I had talked to him that I didn't know if I should call him dad or daddy. Since the last time I saw him I was calling him daddy. Now I was too old to call him that. So it felt a little weird.
I'm thirteen now and he has been sober for 9 years. And things are so much better. I love my dad and I forgive him for what he's done.

My mom doesn't allow me to talk to my dad. My dad hurt my mom for years. I would see him hitting my mom when I was little. It's so sad to think about it. They obviously divorced. But to this day I'm still standing tall and still searching for a great dad that will change me and my mother and sister's life. I mean, hey, there's a lot of fish in the sea.
I feel you, my biological dad isn't the best person in the world but thankfully my new dad is much better. Best of luck to you and your family!

16 years for drugs is ridiculous. People who SA someone get like five years but selling drugs is worthy of nearly 2 decades in prison?
I know this feeling and this story hits home for me, When I was 6 my dad went to prison two states away I didn't understand at the time. I went through life as usual but my dad wasn't doing well in prison and 6 years after he left we got a call that he had died and we also later found out that it was self inflicted. We're going to be having a funeral for him in the first week of November.
