      @@EdgeofBreakup I was just going to add an Edit….When you turned that Benson Preamp off…I didn’t realize you were getting a full out Hendrix fuzz tone and then went straight to glassy cleans when you turned it off. That was an amazing transition. Super glassy. This might be my favorite video of yours not just for the playing and tonal variety but the way you broke everything down made super spot on and really fun to listen to.
      Quick question? Have you ever done like a straight up TS-808 video? Or considered it? I know you’ve demoed many “ variants “ like the Soloist and Duelist but I would love to see a good old TS-808 demo through that amp, stacked with something cool. @@EdgeofBreakup My most basic rig is a Grosh Electrjet VT into the Lehle Mono Volume S into the Benson Germanium Boost into a Swart Antares. I experiment with the other Benson pedals as well for dirt and lots of other stuff for ambience, but the basic rig is what I play 99%of the time.

    • @EdgeofBreakup
      @EdgeofBreakup  11 месяцев назад

      Right on, I just googled the guitar and the amp, looks killer! Do you attenuate the amp so you can boost it harder without going deaf? Or do you play super loud?

    • @karabinerstudios
      @karabinerstudios 11 месяцев назад +1

      I set volume between 3-4 and the push the front end for dirt. Pushing the front end also pushes the reverb harder. So play lighter or with less gain and reverb is less noticeable. Hit the front end hard and the reverb really kicks in but gets out the way. It’s a brilliant design. The amp isn’t *super* loud but definitely changes its tone profile as the volume goes up.

    • @EdgeofBreakup
      @EdgeofBreakup  2 года назад +3

      Hey there, thanks so much for the kind words and for the comment! I think germanium imparts its own flavor on tone and feel, and the EP Booster is def a diff sound. There are some trolls out there that are calling this “just a clean boost” but I feel it does add some flavor, your mileage may vary. As for the Xotic line, people seem to love them and I have owned them in the past, but I can’t get over the design and the egregious font usage. I care about the whole package and Benson cares about design and aesthetics, so it’s kind of a non starter for me. There are way too many pedals that look fantastic and sound great for me to compromise on visuals! :) That being said everyone has their priorities.

    • @EdgeofBreakup
      @EdgeofBreakup  2 года назад +1

      Great question, I’m afraid I can’t technically answer it, but I have to say that the germanium fuzz can be set extremely low gain either by the impedance knob or by your guitar volume with the pedal set dirty, and there is a ton of volume available to function as a boost. Hi. Sorry for my bad english. I write from Italy. Sorry if i bore you with my questions. I would like some advice. I heard you mentioned in your video that you may need two Benson Germanium Boosts on your pedalboard. One as the first pedal "always on" to shape the sound and the second to boost in the guitar solos.
    In my pedalboard I have a Benson Germanium Boost as the first pedal always on set at 7.
    As a second pedal I have a germanium treble boost from the historic English factory D.A.M called "Red Rooster" which I use to boost my third pedal, a Benson Preamp. But when I do it starts whistling like hell. Unless I turn off the first pedal (the Benson Germanium Boost). What do you advise me to do? Thanks in advance

    • @EdgeofBreakup
      @EdgeofBreakup  2 года назад +1

      I was speaking loosely because I could see myself using them that way if I had two 😂, however I’ve never been able to actually try using two Benson Germanium Boosts! Chris Benson has done extensive work making germanium check its drama at the door, and work better with other pedals. My money says it’s the other pedal with the issue, because germanium typically likes to be only first in the chain which means you can usually only have one - so it was quite a revolutionary change for Chris to disrupt this limitation with germanium! Try getting another Benson Ge Boost pedal and pair them together, and if that doesn’t work get a Benson Preamp or a Benson Fuzz - I can vouch for them working very well with the Germanium Boost!
      Thanks for writing it be sure to subscribe to the channel, and definitely follow me on Instagram too!

      @@EdgeofBreakup I already have a Benson Preamp in the pedalboard. My third pedal. I use the DAM red Rooster Germanium treble boost to push the Benson Preamp. But unfortunately it whistles. But if I turn off the Benson Boost (first pedal) it stops whistling

    • @EdgeofBreakup
      @EdgeofBreakup  2 года назад

      Right, I’d blame the non-Benson Red Rooster pedal for that whistling…my bet is that it is the one reacting poorly to the Benson stuff. Germanium pedals other than the ones made by Benson are quite unstable and don’t like working with others. Good luck! Be sure to subscribe!

    • @EdgeofBreakup

      Absolutely - it’s well known that the Benson Preamp gets a lovely fuzzy tinge to it when the gain is maxed out, and that’s without stacking… when you push it with massive level / eq with the Benson Germanium Boost… you’re going to fuzz town. It’s so great!

      @@EdgeofBreakup i cant choose between germanium fuzz and preamp. i want overdrive sound but with option i push on the boost to have more fuzzy sound. What is the option can be better? Benson fuzz + boost over. Or pre boost + Benson preamp?

    • @EdgeofBreakup
      @EdgeofBreakup  2 года назад +1

      If that’s what you want, I’d recommend the Germanium Boost and the Benson Preamp. You can set the preamp for your base tone / level of breakup for rhythm, and then kick the Germanium Boost right into it as sort of a second gain channel of the same sound. Woo it’s good. All of that and if you get a treble bleed in your volume, you can clean one or both of those sounds up for so many shades of tones you won’t believe it.
      The fuzz is also amazing, if you go that way you def want a treble bleed to, amazing with the guitar volume down. It’s also a gamechanger in that you can place other pedals before it - most germanium fuzzes historically that’s a big no-no.
      Honestly my money says you’ll get all of them once you get one. Just a matter of which first. :)

    Gotta say, with all due respect, that I disagree with your take on the way it cleans up with the guitar volume knob. If it does the incredible glassy cleanup of a fuzz face (ala Hendrix) and a germanium treble booster, I’m not hearing it here. My guess would be the impedance-proof (I think that’s what you called it?) feature. I can’t imagine that a germanium boost that can take a buffered signal in front of it could also respond very dramatically to guitar volume changes.
