to be fair, one thing i find annoying is that the brands selling amazing quality stuff, made out of stunning leather and by wonderful artisans, rarely ever sell designs that appeal to me... they're often very masculine looking bags and i'm just trying to go for that 43 year old man going to the office aesthetic for an everyday bag.

Yeah most consumer are familiar with all this big brands having high quality leather while they actually not. Channel like this would educate people to understand what actually a real leather is. Back then, I would be frustrated if any of my leather products got scratches or colour and grain not being even. Because I has been familiar with high quality leather being as perfect as possible. Now I understand what a high quality leather actually is like. Hope that more people will realize that leather items they bought from these big brands was just plastic and pigment coated leather that later will chip off. And also understand that patina is natural and should occur on leather overtime. Seen some people just hated their leather items after it darkened or faded.

For a while i had been into these luxury brands and started following yt channels that have luxury hauls so i can start making my own wish list, as a gift to myself for having worked for so long. I was able to buy one LV bag and altho it was of good quality in terms of materials and craftsmanship, i realized that i can have the same quality for a lesser price. Also, i got tired of the youtubers i had been following complaining about quality issues of chanel and other brands but still keep buying from those fashion houses. Other channels, on the other hand, made me feel like getting an hermes is the ultimate goal in proving to myself that i made it in life. I am glad i started unfollowing those channels before i got the wrong notion about feeling accomplished as a person. Now i am into exploring shops with their own tanneries in my locality and buying my leather goods from local artisans.

luxury brands are such an odd thing. rarely any better than the most basic non designer brand, often from same factory just different label slapped on, yet people will pay 20x the price for a plane white hanes teeshirt that has a supreme logo on it. i stopped caring about that a while back, especially when i was looking for leather goods like shoes, belts, wallets, bags. found smaller shops that handmake things and sell for 1/10th the luxury stuff and i way more than 10x better in some cases like with belts. had some $500 "leather" belt from salvatore ferragamo that lasted maybe 2 years before falling apart. because it was bonded "leather". total garbage. luckily i didnt pay for that thing, was a gift. i replaced it with a $40 top grain leather belt from a small shop that i've had for like 10 years now with zero issues. brand names are just a drug to some people it seems.

That is why those who buy designer get lured. It is the big brands that lure you in to make you feel better if you can buy one item to treat yourself. For me I buy coats that are more expensive because I can see the quality. For bags, I buy leather goods but have them inspected before I buy.

The main appeal of a bag is the design and then the leather. Small manufacturers who use quality leather often struggle with the design part. I would not buy a quality leather bag if it is not aesthetically pleasing . Maybe they should just start copying designs of designer brands as otherwise it’s difficult to compete

I'm gonna fork over thousands of dollars to be scammed? lmao...I told a family member...so you guys get ready n dress up to go to the LV store to have some salesperson in a suit entertain you with their spiel and get you to willingly spend thousands of dollars on a bag that costs less than 100 bucks to make? cracks me up..ppl can spend their money on what they wanna, I just find it ridiculous hm people care so much about status or how others perceive them

My frustration with expensive brands is very poor value. In suits for instance, they will make savings in how much fabric reserve youll get. This is bad because if you need to make your suit bigger or longer you're unable to do so. So many top brands just dont care about great quailty regarding craftmamship.

I buy bags from luxury brands because of the design aesthetic. I am fully aware that Stella McCartney does not make leather bags, and she makes it fully known. But there is so much R&D that goes into creating leather substitutes that I respect all the work the brand puts into it. Besides, luxury brands offer more than just leather goods. They sell clothes as well. Putting together a Chanel bag with a Chanel skirt and heels is very satisfying. Same goes for Dior and Stella McCartney.
In terms of quality, Hermes is known for their quality, craftsmanship, and scarcity. I have several Hermes bags but they are not suitable for all occasions. My barenia fabourg 24/24 cost a fortune but I can’t wear it in the rain or clean it with a leather cleaner. Yes, it’s natural, shows all the skin imperfections, and develops patina overtime. But for the price, it’s a pain to deal with. While my Chanel caviar bag, priced the same, is fuss - free. I can take it out in any weather, wipe any dirt off with baby wipes to make it look new and clean again. And the design is timeless.
The point I’m making is that there is any number of reasons people buy luxury goods. I do it to put together outfits and make sure my accessories last.
Louis Vuitton canvas is just that - coated canvas. It’s a matter of taste not brand prestige. I can’t imagine anyone thinks that carrying a canvas bag that is covered in logos conveys prestige and status. Some people just like the look. You can pair the canvas pieces with lots of outfits plus it’s fuss - free and sturdy.

Another often overlooked, but very important aspect is the cost of manufacturing, logistics, marketing, customer care, customer experience and sales.
Unlike many mass produced brands, designer items from most(not all) designer brands are manufactured in Europe, where they actually pay fair wages across the production chain. The pricing if you breakdown is actually fair for what you’re getting. Small craftsmen don’t have the same overhead costs as these big designers have. Of course material costs for the smaller craftsmen will be higher, but there are so many other costs. And high fashion in general is an artform, especially their haute couture stuff is pushing the boundaries of design and there’s a huge cost for r&d.
I hate the fact that people just generalise the cost of a product to its material costs and neglect the whole picture…

    • @nogoodname8133
      @nogoodname8133 Год назад +1

It’s the same thing with food, if you were to pay fair wages to the whole production chain, that 5usd chicken sandwich would cost closer to 30usd and nobody is willing to pay that much for a sandwich…
Same goes for designer brands and any product actually, you have to cut costs so it makes them attractive for consumers… fast fashion and mass produced goods which exploit workers actually have skewed consumer price expectations so much that they aren’t willing to pay what the quality they look for is worth… hence manufacturers have to sacrifice something, be it wages, material quality, customer care, etc…
At the end of the day a business has to make profit to survive.

You’re assuming things, understanding how a business works and why the price for the service they charge is justified, yet not for everyone, is a whole other thing than buying said product… By the way, I would rather pay everybody involved in making my clothes and items I buy fairly, than buying things where the people that made it are exploited and basically live as modern slaves.
Also the aesthetics of said designer brands are much more to my liking than the boring simplistic artisan stuff this guy makes…

Women don't care. They will continue buying Chanel and I will tell you why. A girl for the first time purchased a Chanel bag and said to me, "Auntie, I am sure you don't have a Chanel bag. Unfortunately you are not in my location, or maybe I can let you touch mine." Now you know what kind of women go for Chanel. Yes, it's definitely not for elegance but for self superiority and being bitchy towards other women. It's a weapon to tell other women, I'm more superior because I can spend lots of money for a bag. This also explained why Birkin is most women's dream bag. Women need to compete with women to be the strong ones to produce their young. So they must win the strongest male, literally, a man who has the strongest financial ability to provide a nest for her to produce her young. It's written in the DNA, the mechanism of natural selection, survival of the fittest, which manifested in women buying bags. Ambitious women will definitely go for Chanel and Hermes. They don't mind what leather. They care about a dominant position that the bag can present to attract attention. 😂
Your videos teaching about leather are resourceful. Lets remember it's an innocent animal who sacrificed its life. I, human, am very brutal and demonic and buying leather bags humbled me. I take care of my bags, knowing a bag means a life that has loss and it came in a bag form to help me.
