It's not hard, LA is an urban planning hellscape (I lived there, lol) I don't know if people pick up on this, but a lot of OTV&F are positive about density and public transport, it's kind of heart warming, but it's completely understandable. If you walk by the side of the street in LA, people think you're crazy or destitute.
@@lizardman1303 zoning is one of the primary causes of American city hellscapes. most of American uban centers are zoned for something residential, commercial and industrial zoning. these make it illegal to have homes and jobs in the same location. worse is the single family zoning laws which makes it illegal to build anything other than a steriotypical suburb, they often exist in the dead center of cities. while the basic concept of zoing makes sense, in practice they have utterly failed. Zoning laws have not even don an adequate job of protecting people from industrial waste and pollution, as the pollution spill from industrial centers is often a dozen miles in size.

Japan is like on of the best places to live in if you don't have to participate in the traditional work culture and already have a partner.

I love in Berlin and I can’t imagine being happy in America. Just from the standpoint of a walkable city with 30+ parks in a 10km radius and an amazing public transport system. I’m happy to say that I will never need a car for day to day travel.

Japans rail network is 2.6 times denser than that of the US. Switzerland 5.5 times. Germany 4.6 times (used to be 7 times before automobile lobbying, fuck cars).
i say the caption to myself every day as i take the train for an hour and 30 minutes every day to school and home watching kids surf the 7 train and weirdos harrass people. also the delays are unfathomably difficult to work around even though its the same problem from the same station every single time
