IV been in this situation many of times and do have to give that lil Johhny props as I didn't think she would have enough on her to get the job done. Dry ground helps I suppose, that and you seam like the only farmer other than us Australian's who believe in RWA (rear wheel assist) for headers. We just added a rear wheel assist to out 9860, and it's a different machine now in the wet, we added the Soucy tracks to the front as well so that helps to lol
Thanks for the understanding comment....I've had so many viewers think that this was a staged event or that we are just total idiots for being in that spot in the first place. Things like this just happen on the farm sometimes....thanks Diesel 84!
Wow, that was quite an interesting problem/ solution video. A lot of people may never think about how hard it is to keep our food supply going. Thanks for sharing.
A little bit of everything. Pullin' combines out of sink holes, removing tractors from muddy ditches and a tight rope (tight CHAIN actually) walker doing' a back flip to celebrate the success of another catastrophic event nullified. Good job guys!
Tip..: if you want to force some hydraulic powed vehicles to use all 4 wheels, then apply a little bit of presure on the break while you go forward or backward, then all 4 wheels will turn on. ( if they dont do this automatic ) Not all machines work like this way, but example some machines like a fairway cutter from Toro on the golfcourse work this way and can provide better traction if you apply the break a little while going up hill. Same goes for some combiners.
Great job!! When you stop think things out, it's better for the machine and man. I know a man's pride can get hurt when he gets stuck! It's ok!! You make haste, you know what happens!! Looks like you need to pay attention and stay out of the ditches. I didn’t see any news for the combine to be over in the weeds near the ditch and the same with the tractor at the end of video.
it was a waterway that i suspect had a tile blow out in it or something....and the tractor was hitched to two wagons that needed to make a wide turn to avoid bending the tongues and the driver got too close the a tile blowout next to woods that was hidden in the weeds.
Nice videos...BUT: @5:40 Why did you get into the tractor seat? If one of those chains or hooks failed, you would be dead or close to it... Put a blanket or jacket on those chains to slow down chains that snap...

When pulling on a chain or cable that might break, the whipplng broken cable can cause serious injury. A safety rope should be used, put a hefty rope at the beginning anchor point, lead it along the cable for about 6 feet, loop it around the cable, then proceed along the cable another 6 feet, loop again, etc. until attaching the rope near the ending anchor point. The rope is slack, and carries no tension load, but if the cable lets go, the rope will arrest the dangerous whipping condition. Been there, done that. Pulling logs out of a forest, sometimes the log would jam against a stump, stopping the tractor and overloading the cable, snap!

You have same luck as me. Dad drunk drove thrust barn door with Gleaner, thank god for steel tractors, just scratches on combine. Rebuilt side of barn.
We had it as slow as it would go....we just needed a bigger auger to handle the volume. At least nothing was damaged and it was only an hour out of our day.
I got our john deere 9600 combine stuck and we tried using a 2440. Didnt work at all. I also sunk in a spot where the city had a broke pipe line with our 9200 tractor and dug all 8 tires in. That was bad.
First time in the bean field....the tall weeds in the waterway was hiding the wet spot, and the 3020 that about tipped over was being driven by a new employee, but you are right, these pitfalls should have been avoided.
A few years ago everyone was stuck like this after 42 inches of rain ( I think the average here is 16 inches per year.) . Our neighbor got stuck 13 times in 25 acres. In the end he gave up and left 2200 acres of heavy wheat crop out to rot. I turned on a hill and had one wheel sink out of sight. Was that actually a sink hole or just a low spot?
Wow! That sounds terrible! I believe it was some sort of tile blow out in a waterway....what was strange is that it was dry out everywhere except that one spot. Thanks for the comment AL M!
Most of the time in a situation like that where the front tires are in a ditch, or a wash out, you're better off with the combine in 2wd.. When its in 4wd the hydraulic system will put the most power to the tires that have the least amount of traction.
You sure that was a sink hole? Looked like just a wet place where the water way emptied. No sense in dumping that much grain on the ground unless someone really enjoys shoveling. The combine unloading auger has an on and off switch. Not trying to be a troll. Been there and done that many times. Just think it could have handled a little better. Still I gave you a like for entertainment. Beats watching over paid athletes take a knee.
I'm sure it could have been handled better but we were just in a hurry to get back to work and could have brought the backhoe over which would have made quick work of the pile but it only took five min to shovel up the mess. Totally agree on over paid athletes taking a knee!!

That's a common myth, chains do not recoil much when they fail. Straps and wire rope on the other hand do.
There was hardly any tension on the chain, just enough to save it from a possible rollover.

combine in sink hole "" daft driver drove into soft wet area with no crop to harvest Dumb is Dumb in any language
Nice video and stunt boy on chain
Not a one of them has walking around sense !!! The combine didn't fall into a sink hole it was driven into a ditch lol sooooooo much incompetence
Was not a ditch, that was a waterway that had some sort of tile blowout that created a wet sinkhole type area... were you there? Didn’t see you there.
Tell me how this is incompetent in anyway? Driving a combine through a rented field with a waterway in it less than 3 mph that happen to have a wet spot in it that was not visible, hmmm, yeah that sounds like pure incompetence to me too.
@@jasonwish- yeah I saw you there nuf said lol
Darrell Hendrix
Didn’t the green under growth tell you it was wet ground
It was just a waterway that had not been mowed since spring and it was not wet then....not sure where it came from! Thanks for the comment.
Dude... 1 Million views by Christmas...😉
Is this your dad operating these machines? I seen the video where he smashed the auger on the combine.
Yes, most of the time. We are just very fortunate to still have him around to help on the farm after what he's been through health wise over the past 5 years. No one got hurt and very little down time to make the repairs. Just have to roll with it sometimes!
That’s cool. I wish my dad could have kept farming. He had to give it up in the eighties and have always dreamt of what it would have been like if he could keep going. Now I get to live my dream though you guys and other farmers here on RUclips. Thanks for providing food for the me and my family and, providing entertaining videos for me. May god bless you and your family brother.
