People have done this in the past, however, they aren't full on "highways". They are normally just 1x2 corridors

Well technically when all the other tunnels are finished, the longest tunnel would be 10,60mil. blocks long, due to the diagonal being completed.
Meaning:
3.750² x 3.750² (14.0625 x 14.0625)
= 5.303² (28.125)
Then you just need to take 5.303 x 2 = 10.606
At the end you'd have a highway that is 10.606mil. blocks long.
Also, if it were a road, it would be the fourth-largest road on the planet. In terms of distance travelled in the overworld it would exceed the circumference of the Earth.

@@Tom-id7zr Its been happening for as long as the highways have been built, its just now that they are being really targeted. Before, people would usually clean them up as much as they can to pay it forwards. Now there's too many griefing too quickly for the major road repair factions and solos to clean it up.
And then FitMc caused almost all of those monuments to be destroyed

The Motorway Gurus could build a highway loop around 1mil, or have highway loops connecting the diagonals to the axis highways after they are done extending the diagonals.

My personal favourite is Final Cut Pro X. It has a pretty easy-to-use iMovie-like interface, yet it is powerful enough for most basic and intermediate editing tasks.

You also have to account for the fact the diagonals are much harder to dig. They are not only longer, but take 4 times as long to progress through due to the way you dig in minecraft. Crazy achievement.

When a Minecraft server has more infrastructure than some countries In The Pacific
You seem to have made a critical mistake.
While the straight nether highways go all the way in both directions, the diagonal one only goes all the way in one direction. As the nether highways are connected in the middle, that means that the x and y highways form two roads instead of four, each of which is longer than a diagonal highway in a single direction.
(This is, as the diagonal in a cube with size x * x is shorter than 2x)

The diagonals are actually 7.5 million blocks because they are on a grid so it is the same as going all the way to the border then taking a 90 degree turn and going all the way that way. This is because it is jagged
Digging to all the corners sounds like a interesting project I'm sure no one would try to sabotage it by bed trapping the baritone bots millions of blocks out or anything.

Well actually you can count the -x and +X as one highway because it's just a straight line from world border too worldborder, you don't have to start counting from 0 0
