Arcade1up How I made my home arcade...

- When I was growing up in the 80's I thought the good times of an arcade would never end. Well it only took until the 90's to realize I was wrong. A good arcade was hard to come by. Most of them by that time were brightly lit. A good arcade is dark .The new arcades were all tarted up with those useless redemption games. You know the ones. Drop in a token and it spits out tickets. If it has anything to do with tickets Im not interested. It was back then I was wishing for an arcade so that I could still have that great experience. Since then companies have made 60 in one or 200 in one game cabinets. I found that these did not appeal to me. The reason is, Being in an arcade is treat for all your senses. Seeing all the games, Finding the one you want to play and taking in the artwork of the machine as you walk up to it. The control panel only has the necessary controls for that game. The 60 in one machines are all cluttered up with 4 joysticks 12 buttons a trackball and who knows what else. It stinks. A pac man joy stick feels different than a donky kong stick I dont feel like looking at a track ball when I'm playing Burger time. Arcades were a treat for your sense of feel. And of course the sounds Nothing filled in the background better than all the other games surrounding you. Who can forget trying to set your high score and hearing "Body Blow Body Blow Body Blow." from punchout Or the beeping of the starting line of Pole Position. I would even go so far as to say even your sense of smell was stimulated at the arcade. The smell of the wood of the cabinets as the warm electronics are baking all day has its own smell. They were great times. I have done my best to re create what I loved. Its pretty good but I dont think anything will ever be the same.
Music is : Young Hearts by Commuter
I beg your pardon by Kon Kan
Fig Leaf Rag (during slide show)
Dude, you are my hero. All the extra work you had to do to get the room into a condition that you can set it up the way you wanted it--major props. Love it! Hope you're enjoying it, you earned it.
I go down there everyday and touch up my skills on whatever game Im feeling that day. Its so fun.
@@yeksun i love arcade games but I am so baaad at them 😅 I think that 3-4 years ago I didn't know about 99% of the games.
yeah all for the 1up machines. but im jelly
Love the Karate Kid music from the “Golf n’ Stuff” scene!
Very good. I was wondering if anybody would pick up on that.
yeksun I grew up watching that movie in the mid ‘80s :)
Lol, I caught that too.. I was like wait, is this guy pumping the karate kid soundtrack
@SF5ftw I think you were the first to mention it.
The Karate Kid background music gives it that true 80’s experience 👍🏼.
things I didn't know I need.
1) wall traffic light
2) pac man carpet
3) glow track ball
Awesome Arcade!
Well done sir. Well done indeed!
Oh yes . you must have a traffic light. Lol. Thanks for the nice comment.
I found the pacman rug for $499 on american gaming supply. no tax, no shipping. showed up in less than a week. Some places wanted $798.
Holy crap that must have been a huge amount of money 💰 and even more amount of hard work huh great job looks absolutely amazing reminds me of the 80’s when I was in my 20’s spending all my time in Dream Machine arcade lol thank you for the memories
Thanks. It was important to me to try to capture that real arcade feeling. Its nice to hear comments like yours. It lets me know that i am on the right track.
Much much respect for the RAD poster Sir, that caught me way off guard!! Also one of my all time favorites. Freakin sweet arcade all around 👍
Geez, I thought this would just be a video about buying a few Arcade 1Ups...crazy how much work you did and pretty much all by yourself. Very impressive.
Thanks, Im glad you could appreciate all the work involved. thanks for commenting.
What an amazing transformation. Looks like TONS of work… literally.
It is a my dream after reading READY PLAYER ONE ! It’s brilliant and so wonderful ! That’s a fantasy for every nerd !
Very cool 🤪👍 enjoy every sec of it ...
Thanks . Im glad you watched the whole thing. I think people are just fast forwarding to the arcade part.
It looks like a real arcade, complete with 80’s tunes :-) I’m blown away; nicely done!!
Love this video, thanks for sharing! Your home arcade is totally awesome man. Nice job! 😎
Dude! This is beyond words! While it’s amazing now, as time goes on and you tweak it more, it will be utterly incredible. Dream space
Thanks Chuck! I have added a few more games and it really is my escape from reality.
you were able to catch a part of your childhood.....and mine. i spend many days and nights in the arcade. definitely some good times. thank you.
Dude, big ups man, I am geeking out at your setup - all those childhood memories playing Space Invaders and Star Wars Arcade just came flooding back ... May they enrich your life
Thanks, It sounds like you are a man who "gets it" . It is like a time warp , I love it.
Great job!! An amazing improvement to your home!! AND THE ARCADE ROCKS!!!!
Very cool arcade, and what an incredible improvement from the unfinished basement. I’d like to see more of the pinball too.
OK Ill make another video of the pinball. I have some new stuff Ill show you too.
Arcades and awesome 80's to the side. The basement looks amazing. My parents, where I grew up, looks like how your basement looked. It's a dungeon, lol. Great work!
This was a great video. well done! Love the rosco for president poster. XD
When I started watching this, I totally expected it to be half assed, instead you totally blew it away! Congrats on doing it right and a job well done!
Thats cool to hear thanks. As a general rule I tend to over do things Lol
Dude!! Nice Job!!
Sorry you had to do all the prep work. I just turned one of my offices with 9 Arcade1ups, Pac Man table, two 55" TVs hooked up to internet, $300 worth LED lights, fog machine, and about 6 party laser lights.. Oh, and 30 bottles of whiskey too. I will need to get pinball machines....
Looks fantastic man, great job. However, this is everything my wife fears about my "projects" LOL. I say something simple like, "hey I'm going to turn the basement into a game room", a week later I'm digging up the outdoor patio with a mini excavator.
LOL thats really funny.....and true. But this is where your acting skills have to come into play. When she comes home and you have the whole yard dug up, you have to act very nonchalant and matter of fact. You have to be like " yeah I said I was re doing the basement. Of course Im digging up the lawn thats all part of it. I thought you knew that. Its common sense..... Then not wanting to admit that she didnt know something like that , she will go along with it .
@@yeksun hahaha. I will keep that in mind and work on my acting skills :)
Awesome job! And nice collection... Once you have one it becomes an addiction
Awesome job! Thanks for the tour. Very impressed with what you put together. Looks like an awesome place to hang out!
I somehow luckily stumbled onto your video.. Very awesome. It turned out fantastic, and it was great to see your step by step process.. And that you did all the work yourself... Kudos.
I'm glad you stumbled upon my video. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Amazing transition! Congratulations to you and all your hard work paid off. Arcade looks great.
Thanks . Its been several years now and I still love going down there
Incredible job! Funny how arcade1up inspired you to accomplish that major project. Bravo! Looks great with the lights and adding music is a must for the man cave as well. 👍🏻👍🏻
LOl I know. If they never came out with those my basement would still be a damp dungeon.
Amazing work👍👍👍love the arcade room😍👍👍👍👍
That's dedication! Great work on the room. Looks incredible.
What a great setup! I'm hoping to have one of my own in the far future after school. For now, I just have 1 arcade1up machine in my walk-in closet lol
Thanks. This is something I have wanted to do for many years. When A1U came out with these cabinets I felt now is the time.
Very nice job
I did my home 10yrs ago. First time I. My life it was dry. Congratulations....
Great Job! I really do miss the arcade feel from the 80's.
Thanks . Me too. Another thing I miss is going to the video store to pick out a movie. They were good times. Dont look for me to build a video store though. Lol.
fantastic, love your attention to detail and passion!
I admire the hard work and effort put into this project.
It definitely was hard work but it was so fun creating this arcade. It turned out just as I hoped it would
This is great, really love how the arcade turned out and the way you documented the whole journey and process. I'd love to have something like this one day! Thanks for sharing with us.
Awesome room man. It's almost like an addiction haha. I started with 1 and figured that was it. Then I bought another because why not. Then it spiraled into converting half my garage into a game room and filling it with cabinets haha. It's a great hobby though. I made a video showing what I've done so far if you're interested. I like hearing others feedback.
Wow awesome man when you do this you appreciate it more
Welcome to the Arcade1up addiction family! Our stories are mirror image and I started on day one of Arcade1up launch and have fully supported them ever since. Great looking arcade... it's like my 2 muscle cars... the journey to completion never ends lol!
Thats interesting. I am finding that arcade people are also car people. I like corvettes and jeeps.
My friend Kenny has a Go-Go Action Bronco and I ride a Bigwheel.
Looks awesome buddy! I have 3 already in the man cave with NBA JAM pre orederd. I'd love to have it look something like yours when it's all done. Major kudos to all the work you've put into that. Outstanding!
Thanks . Good luck with NBA Jam . It looks pretty cool.
Bro, The RAD poster is classic!!! Send me an Angel!!!
I love when people know about RAD . There's not too many of us LOL
@@yeksun What was cooler then Cru back flipping the Kix cereal bowl in the 80”s??? Love your set up by the way...Top Notch!!!
Cuz why not! Thanks for sharing.
Turned out nice 😎👍.. A lot of work.. But well worth it for how it turned out
I love the video and the room man. Arcade1up has really made home arcades possible for so much less.
Thanks
Amazing work and dedication! Love the ambiance you created. It brings back those days of arcades and roller skating rinks. I hope you have many years of enjoyment from your amazing arcade.
Arcade looks amazing! You also added a ton of value to your home, great job!
Thanks. People keep saying that about my homes value. Its funny but I never considered that while I was doing this, but I guess you are right.
Thanks for the nice comment
Lots of work to get your Arcade wow! Looks great.
If I had all of these toys when I was a kid I'd never go back to school not even to go outside my parents would have to drag me. When I get my own set up it's going to be 80s music only. You went all the way I thought you were going to build a tunnel like a secret entrance excellent job.
Awe man , a secret tunnel. That would have been awesome. Now you tell me. Well Im not digging it all up again . Well on second thought that would be pretty cool . how long could it possibly take ? Hmmmm . You got me thinking
@@yeksun 😂😂 I would've liked have come over and spend my quarantine with you I'll probably get mad and say what? no more quarantine? 😬 but I feel sick wait I need to beat the highest score noooo!. I can stay in there for months.
Maybe I’m only speaking for myself but who didn’t always want an arcade of their own, not only that, but a few bowling lanes too ! 👍
Sounds like your thought process is right on the money.
WOW ! Nice job man! Follow your passion! We would totally be good friends.! I have a mame i built from 2004 and a virtual pinball that I built 2018. Love them. Great job again! wow!
Thats cool . I need more friends
Very awesome work !! Enjoy your time with it.
Dude, you're a fucking legend. Like, holy moly, you earned all of my respect. Hell, you just inspired me to grab them and make my own arcade. I'm waiting on the Big Buck Hunter and X-Men ones to come out. Hopefully we also get some SNK ones for Samurai Showdown, Fatal Fury, and King of Fighters
Thats a very enthusiastic comment. Im glad I could inspire you. Make sure to show us the finished result. Have fun.
Thank you for such a wonderful video! Your passion for creating this space shines throughout.
Much respect doing all that on your own. Your Arcade room came out awesome. Love the Rad poster... brings back a lot of memories. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Very nice video. Thanks for posting and have a nice day too.
A gorgeous basement!!!
You did it right man, I want my arcade to be similar .
Wow. Thanks for the video! You did an AWESOME job!! I hope you are happy.
Nice! The amount of 'better' that room looks (even without the arcade games or the lighting) is amazing!!
Love it! Especially that you also have some real vintage arcade machines mixed in with the new ones. And the attention to detail, like replacing the controllers and the marquees. Fantastic job!
Thanks for the kind words
Wow! That's a ton of work done for your Arcade Room. Great job man, love the classic retro look. Amazing work fellah :D
Your work is an inspiration dude!! Awesome video
Love the Rad poster!
Bro you KILLED IT! GR8 JOB MOTIVATION.
Thank You for the nice comment
wowwwww, dude. one of the nicest rooms I've seen. it's not hillbilly, it's just F-ing baller retro!!!
Thanks . Although I am curious ... What would an example of "Hillbilly" be?
Nice work dude looks great and love song playing is off the karate kid
Love the karate kid poster in the back!!!! Great job man!
And Rad!!
I dig your arcade. Nice work.
Hahaha the arcade song from karate kid is a great touch! 😂
Glad you picked up on that. I love that movie.
Man, I had the same slight moisture at the base of the driveway side wall. I snaked the drain tile and dryloked. Good choice of music with Scott Joplin
It sure is nice once you get the basement dry.
A lot of work went into this, and it's the journey and end result is what matters.
Mad respect. I have a old finished basement with tile flooring and wood panel. It’s got an egress window for a potential bedroom but I’d have to do what you did to waterproof, I don’t get much water either but I see prior water damage.
Its a pain but worth it. There are also interior waterproofing solutions that are proven to work well. Not as much work.
Very nice man. I love it!!!
That came out awesome!! Ive got a few machines in my basement. Got a room similar to yours with a custom full size arcade cabinet with 1300 games in it, and just bought a Cyclone pinball machine too. Enjoy your arcade! Good job.
Cyclone pinball is awesome. I like that era of pinball. I picked up a High Speed that was a little bit of a basket case. I am fixing it up and it should be done soon. Have fun with your pinball
Amazing job!! 👍🏻👏🏻
Oh RAD I love that movie man darn 😍
Looks awesome! Great job.
Looks Amazing, well done bro, nice place to chill and play, real old school arcade.
Great job🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
I absolutely love your arcade it is what I want to do for my kids

Great job. Way to make you dream come true.It looks awesome.love the Rosco P Coltrane poster.
Awesome room man you put in some work
Wow! This is fantastic!
this is so epic i love it, you did a great job !!!
Definitely inspirational to people who always wanted to do this, i just worry his buttons are already crapping out on him in most of those cabs.
Amazing work .hard work definitely paid off beautiful arcade🕹🕹🕹
Awesome video. Great work
Congrats on the Arcade Room!! Awesome! I'm working on my collection and should have a video out soon as well!!
you should get one of those juke boxes with the bubbles to play all your favorite music from that era.
This was amazing. Great job!
Awesome video ❗❗❗
Thanks for taking us along 👍
I've considered buying a few of these machines. How well have they held up and which one is your favorite and least favorite?
I know you eliminated the moisture for practical reasons (and did a fantastic job ) .But have you tested the area for radon gas ? Radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer. The test kits are cheap and available at Lowe's and Home Depot ( where i live the city has them for free once a year ). The gas is odorless so testing is really the only way to know.
Thanks for the nice comment. The machines have all held up perfectly. I did wear out a joystick on my pacman ,but that was a 1st generation cabinet. They use much better hardware now so that shouldn't be a problem. My favorite is centipede my least favorite is street fighter, it has no nostalgic value to me. I never really played it. I did not test for radon. Perhaps I will.
Man what a great job .. side nite i had to waterproof the side of my parents house using just shovels 😭
Wow. how deep did you have to go. I cant imagine that. Was it rocky?
Wow that was a lot of work but it looks like it was worth it awesome arcade. Rad movie poster
Oh my Goodness! Man! I never would have thought someone would have the same exact love for 2 Films! I'm doing my basement now and have been looking @ KARATE KID & RAD Posters! Hahahaha....so Cool! Dude, both those films had so much impact on me as a kid. SEND ME AN ANGEL scene was rewound so many times on my VCR! And YOUR THE BEST AROUND rewound a thousand times! I love your Thoughts Man, the Arcade looks Amazing! I want one of those 40th Anniversary Pacman Cabs with the custom riser.....
Thats awesome. Most people never even heard of RAD. I watched it so many time growing up . I still like it but if you show it to someone today that has never seen it they think your crazy. Lol . Good luck with your basement. Its fun to make your own arcade. Its nice to know Im not alone.
You're a legend! Amazing 👌
Well... I wouldn't go that far Lol. But , ok if you insist . Thanks for the compliment.
Wow, awesome job!!
the electrical outlets for each machine is a really nice touch
Even though you may not use it a change machine would look great
I really thought about that. Your Right it would look awesome. But I am kind of running out of room. I may have an idea up my sleeve however.
Yeah I ordered i raiser off arcade 1up,believe it i got in in just over a week ,couldn't believe it myself.but nice arcade
Great 👍🏾 job on your basement
