I live in a small mountain village in Tasmania, with a population of around 100 people (half of them are under 18). Over here they only brought out the Gauntlet and Street Fighter cabinets (the SF one is a dream come true for me) but they're $699 AUD (roughly $498 USD). I bought one of each to set up at our local milk bar so the kids here could experience some of the awesomeness of the 80s and 90s.
That one would be hard, given the rights required for those games. I mean remember how many times the MvC games have been put up and than delisted from online stores like the PSN and XBLA. Hell MvC 3 and UMvC3 have been taken out of print due to rights issues. If they did do an MvC machine then it would have to be a super limited run of under like 500 machines.
that was my biggest concern. i cant imagine the thing standing up to many hardcore sessions. mind u its too small to actually fight anyone on it(which is the whole point). also bugs me to see they have a ball top stick instead of a bat top(japanese cabs use ball tops). i would imagine it was a circle gate tho.
Yeah, no doubt. Can’t imagine going head to head with someone as small as the machine was. I would have ruined the joystick quicker if I had went up against someone though.

A note on the decal quality: I work at a Walmart where we've set up one of the Street Fighter machines from stock (as our demo unit didn't come in), and within three days most of the control panel overlay had been rubbed white. Granted, it was placed in electronics facing the main path to toys during the holiday season, so it did see a particularly high amount of traffic.
My Tesla has Asteroids, Centipede, Lunar Landing, and Space Invaders. You use the touch screen or the steering wheel. Plus you can sit and play. Oh, you can go place because it doubles as a car.

Ya we need more good beatem up. Street fighter is fine but all 3 games are pretty much the same. Final fight was just released so that's cool. But TMNT, X-Men, and SIMPSONS are the only cabinets I played when I was younger. I played Final Fight on console so it's not the same to me
I think kids would rather get a Modern Console, and a Retro Game collection on that console, and seeing how cheaply there made, and how much there sold for. Like the old saying "You can't go home again".
Fist thing you do when you buy one of these is to replace the Joystick and buttons with quality ones. Either Sanwa or Seimitsu or if you have a personal preference, that. The ones that come with these are incredibly flimsy, and will not hold up to repeated use/abuse. Friend of mine bought one when they came out, and the Joystick and several buttons failed after the first month. Helped him replace them with Sanwa ones, and have been good since. If you prefer standing at these, definitely buy the riser.
I messed around with the Street Fighter 2 one in my local Walmart before I started working there and I think its definitely very nostalgic. Being born in 1980, I remember very fondly being able to go and spend my allowance at the local arcade or at the arcade in the movie theater before and after watching a movie.
I literally bought 2 of them today (Pac-man and Rampage) because they were on sale for $200 each. And my thought was that my 3 year old daughter would totally be able to play them. A great way to introduce her to some of the classics casually. Glad you guys agreed that’s what these are for. :)
@@EQOAnostalgia With all the quality controls issues these machines are having even at $99 it's a stretch. I have a feeling a lot of these are gonna flood Craigslist, LetGo, etc.. after the holidays where people get tired of them, or their spouse says it's gotta go, or else at well under $100.
From everything I have read from gamers who have bought these you need to 1. Make the insides more sturdy by using extra brackets or boards. 2. Get some clear vinyl or plexi to cover the button and joystick area because the decals will wear off after heavy use. If you are taking these to cons, it will get a lot of play and wear and hopefully those two tips can help extend the life of your cabs.

I'm only 18 so I've never even seen a real Gauntlet cabinet, much less played one, but I've played the hell out of it via Midway Arcade Treasures on the PSP, so naturally I was super stoked to see one of these set up for demo play at Wal-Mart. Someone had stolen the knob from the joystick, but it still looked, felt, and sounded exactly like I'd imagine the real game to look, feel, and sound like. I didn't have time to get past level 8 (even after using the warp), so I can't speak on the level 30+ glitches, but from my brief experience I'd have to say that this is a perfect way to introduce the youngins to arcade classics. Or you could just take them to an actual arcade lol
Under an hour to assemble? I put together the Golden Axe one today and it probably took me 3 hours to assemble and clean up my work space. It's more of a challenge than he lets on especially if you're careful not to scratch your cabinet.
I frequent a local Wal-Mart around my town and they have the Street Fighter 2 one assembled for playing. I'm able to pull off the special moves every time. I play with Ryu too and can hit all the hadokens without missing the control combos.
Depends on which version of the sticks you get. There are really bad ones, and some slightly better ones. Can't tell from outside of box which one it has.
Yeah Lunar Lander is GREAT! I like it better than the arcade version because I think the buttons are better than the thruster controller it originally had
Stay away from these things until they are $100 or cheaper, this guy doesnt talk about all the issues these machines have except for the street fighter..He plays off the galaga being completely broken..OH WELL. not to mention the gameplay panel artwork on these rub off easily. I give arcade 1up some kudos for effort since they are new to the game, and the fact they fix alot of the issues and arent shady about that part.
VideoGame Polak hopefully the q and a will improve they are on sale for 199 now don’t know if it’s permanent or not . Seriously doubt they’ll dip to 100 or less unless the company goes out of business it’s hard to get a decent fight stick for less than a 100
I wish they apposed the joystick clusters at more of a 45degree angle for 2-player games like SF2 etc. Also super light and the cabinets kind of bounce around when the play gets intense.
Actual SF2 arcade machines didn't move the buttons on an angle. They were flat and parallel, just like every other old SF or MK arcade machine was. The only multiplayer machines that used angled buttons were FOUR player.
I am a father in my 30s and I am absolutely salivating at that Rampage cabinet. edit: Since I am over 6 foot I would most likely just make a platform out of plywood and gray felt to raise the entire machine.
The classic Atari vector based arcade cabinets used black and white quadro-scan vector CRT monitors. Some of the later ones like Star Wars use colour vector monitors. Some of their deluxe cabnites like Asteroid Deluxe reflects the vector monitor image to a reflective glass-mirror, which is projected on different layers of hand painted art and illuminated with a black light to create a trippy 3D-ish effect and it looks incredible. The Asteroids Deluxe arcade cabinet is really one of my favorites. Yeah the recreation here doesn't do that one any favors. But some of these cabs look OK.
Wouldn't it be better if they made this thing with interchangeable control boards, and just put the games on the controller somehow? Similar to a plug n play. Then you would just have to buy a cabinet, and you could constantly buy new games with new controllers for one cabinet. That would be much more cost efficient, and it would take up less space. Nice review btw.
The real cabinet sounds like the ideal choice until you realize you're spending around 2 grand on a (probably) worn out machine. I'll stick to Arcade 1up.
My mom use to let me miss school sometimes and take me to the mall. I would play arcades and she would buy me Ninja Turtles action figures. RIP mom, thank you. Awesome times, back then.

Seriously doubt they’ll dip to 100 or less unless the company goes out of business it’s hard to get a decent fight stick for less than a 100
@@gcforreal LOL not with the way walmart clears out things...prices drop LOWWWW sometimes at that dump
@@videogamepolak0 Don't you ever insult my precious Walmart again!!!!!!
Man just hops over Street Fighter 2 like it isn't the most loved coin-op of all time in his living room
Finally Ryan is back. More Ryan.
OMG, I loved the "BARLOG" misspelling and sometimes called him that for chuckles. Great that they kept that detail. :P
I have one, they're really good, solid quality build.
Vector screen is a must have to play Asteroids and all the other vector games. The space shoots looks pretty cool in the vector monitor.
Where the heck is Mac!?!?!

@@NateB1976 hes gotta make a living somehow
I want a taito, or snk machine
Some Mat Mania, Bad Dudes, super dodge ball, street smart, ect ect
I wish they apposed the joystick clusters at more of a 45degree angle for 2-player games like SF2 etc.
Also super light and the cabinets kind of bounce around when the play gets intense.
Actual SF2 arcade machines didn't move the buttons on an angle. They were flat and parallel, just like every other old SF or MK arcade machine was. The only multiplayer machines that used angled buttons were FOUR player.
@@simpleanswer8954 But these units are very small. Two full size dudes in that space isn't fun. I've tried it.
Did he say Arcade Console? - Arcade Machine man!!
You should do one about pinball machines the home 🏡 alone versions 🤣.......🍕🍕🦇🦇🙋♂️🌮
I am a father in my 30s and I am absolutely salivating at that Rampage cabinet.
edit: Since I am over 6 foot I would most likely just make a platform out of plywood and gray felt to raise the entire machine.
Czah5 Sit in a chair.
There is no Donkey Kong that sucks or Miss Pac-Man
ZOMBIE MMA & IRON - Probably never be a Nintendo game...
@@GregsGameRoom and a Ikegami game, they programmed it.
Nintendo needs to suck it up and give us one with DK, DKjr and Mario Bros, and another with Punch-Out and Super Punch-Out
The classic Atari vector based arcade cabinets used black and white quadro-scan vector CRT monitors.
Ugh....the size of the machine bothers me.
Someone will do this right in a year of two with high quality controls.
Agreed, when they do put me down for a 1941 reproduction
I used to love playing the arcade version of rampage. Was one of my favorite arcade games.
Yay!
I'm soooooo glad you guys made this video. Keep them coming 👍🏽
Nice video
Wouldn't it be better if they made this thing with interchangeable control boards, and just put the games on the controller somehow? Similar to a plug n play. Then you would just have to buy a cabinet, and you could constantly buy new games with new controllers for one cabinet. That would be much more cost efficient, and it would take up less space. Nice review btw.
They would make less money doing that I think. If It was my business, I wouldn't do that. Not at the start when I need money at least.
The real cabinet sounds like the ideal choice until you realize you're spending around 2 grand on a (probably) worn out machine. I'll stick to Arcade 1up.
